Jameer Nelson decided yesterday to opt out of his contract, which will make him an unrestricted free agent this summer. However, turning down his player option with the Magic doesn't mean Nelson doesn't want to return to Orlando. According to Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld, signing a long-term deal with the Magic is still Nelson's number one goal, and the point guard confirmed as much on Twitter today
"Like I have said over and over," Nelson tweeted. "I'd love to stay a Magic and I would love to play for the best fans in the NBA. And I still have faith that it can happen. So again thanks you guys for all the support."
Here are a few more updates on some soon-to-be free agents….
- The Pacers expect to be on Roy Hibbert's doorstep tonight when free agency opens, writes Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star. The team will meet with and try to re-sign George Hill when he returns from vacation, says Wells.
- A source tells Sean Deveney of the Sporting News that Deron Williams doesn't want to drag out the free agent process and could make a quick decision. However, SI.com's Sam Amick hears that D-Will figures to take at least a couple days, and may want to see if the Nets or Mavs can recruit another quality free agent. That might be difficult for Dallas in particular, since I think they'll need an answer from Williams before they can really pursue anyone else.
- Jason Terry reiterated to Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida (Twitter link) that he'll "definitely" consider the Heat in free agency. Terry told Tomasson as much back in March. If Miami's pursuit of Ray Allen falls through, Terry would certainly qualify as a solid Plan B.
