Mavs Making “Big Push” For Brandon Roy

The Mavericks are making a "big push" to sign free agent shooting guard Brandon Roy, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports (Twitter link). According to Spears, the Cavs, Timberwolves, and possibly the Lakers also have interest in Roy, who could meet with teams in Seattle next week. Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld, meanwhile, reports that the Bulls have expressed "a lot of interest" in the former Blazer, and are looking at a possible multiyear deal for him.

According to earlier reports, Roy had narrowed his list of options down to five teams — the Mavs, T-Wolves, Bulls, Pacers, and Warriors. Roy has met with Dallas and Minnesota so far, and according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld (Twitter link), the 27-year-old expected to meet with the other three clubs on that wish list before making a decision.

Roy was forced into retirement a year ago due to knee problems, but based on the interest he's receiving this summer, it appears teams are reasonably confident in his health. Because Portland amnestied Roy, he continues to receive a substantial salary from the team, including $16.46MM for 2012/13, so it remains to be seen whether money will be a major factor in his decision.
