A report made yesterday by Michael Scotto of SheridanHoops relayed that the Clippers are gauging the interest that other teams have in trading for Jamal Crawford once again. Crawford had been the frequent subject of trade rumors in the offseason, when reports indicated the team explored trading him around draft time and that the Knicks, Heat and Cavs had interest. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports suggested this week that the Clippers remained open to dealing the 35-year-old shooting guard amid a report that the team recently gauged interest in Lance Stephenson and Josh Smith.
Clippers coach/executive Doc Rivers denied on multiple occasions in the past few days that he’s spoken to anyone about Stephenson and Smith, and he said in September that he’d be “very surprised” if Crawford doesn’t remain with the team through the rest of the season. Any trade talk the Clippers are engaging in at this point is exploratory, a source told Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders. Crawford is in the final year of his contract, which pays him $5.675MM. It’s unclear if Miami, Cleveland or New York maintains interest in the veteran.
So here’s the topic for today: Should the Clippers look to trade Jamal Crawford, or is he too valuable a commodity to part with?
Do you believe L.A. would be better served to deal Crawford and try to extract some value from his expiring deal? If so, what sort of return can the team realistically expect? If not, why do you believe Crawford should remain a Clipper? Take to the comments section below to share your thoughts and opinions on the subject. We look forward to what you have to say.
He needs to go. He is a ball stopper and doesnt take high percentage shots. I thought he finally got it in his head to take balanced shots but next 2 games he took shots that were worse. Idk who is available but if theyre not going to play Cole aldrich, a defensive big that can play through hack a jordan would be nice. If no big available, a pure spot up shooter that doesnt need the ball would be nice. Besides Wes and JJ, cp3 doesnt have a reliable spot up shooter to pass to. Clips also need to at least get close to matching the Warriors many shooters.
Clips should trade the Rivers tandem.
It all depends on what you get in return . Jamal; has been one of the better reserves in the league . Its amazing thats people call him a ball stopper yet hes 3rd on the team in assists and the fact remains that of the clippers current group hes the one that the others should be working to get a good shot for . Instead hes constantly put on the floor with guys who can’t finish plays constantly yet want to shoot a lot . Jamal is averaging nearly 29 ppg when CP3 is out and shooting a good percentage which tells me that if he got to play with Blake and DJ more his numbers would be better . If you put JJ on the floor with Rivers,Stephenson, and Smith and then see how JJ’s numbers fall off the cliff. You look at all the disasters Doc has brought onto the clippers bench since hes been here jamal Crawford is the one most affected by it because hes the one who has to play with them the most .
Even saying all of that I still feel Doc kinda screwed up by keeping Austin Rivers and not going and getting a real backup Pg because a lineup of backup PG ,Crawford ,Stephenson,Josh Smith and Aldrich would be much better than playing Rivers who is not a PG at all..
Crawford has struggled but again hes the one who has to put up with the most change but even still he has made the 2nd most 3’s ,3rd most ft’s ,3rd most assist , on the team so if hes playing badly what are the rest doping with the changes they have been given .
Crawford should remain a Clipper because he can run and shoot, simple as that. DeAndre Jordan to be traded for anything and Lance Stephenson and Josh Smith get to play without a non shooter like Jordan. Clippers can’t become a playoff team with Jordan. Letting Jordan act like a team leader is a joke because of his clown like results at shooting.
