Heat sophomore Justise Winslow will probably miss the rest of the 2016/17 season, writes Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel. The versatile forward injured his shoulder tangling with Al Horford on Friday and will undergo what’s presumed to be season-ending surgery this Thursday.
The news that Winslow had in fact torn his labrum was announced by head coach Erik Spoelstra prior to Miami’s tilt with the Kings on Wednesday.
Winslow had missed the last two games with what the team had listed generically as a “right shoulder injury.” Earlier in the season he missed 16 games with a wrist injury that was said to potentially warrant surgery in its own right.
In 18 games with the Heat this season, Winslow has averaged 10.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, up from 6.4, 5.2 and 1.5 respectively in his rookie year.
Thought so when I saw it, but heard it was just a stinger…well…that’s obviously the worst thing that could have happened to the heat right now…

Shooting only became an issue this year after he injured his wrist on his shooting hand. Started reverting back to old mechanice b/c of discomfort. Still really think he’s going to be really good. He is a winning player
He was a lousy shooter in college, too.
I know, but he makes a lot of the important ones…but what I was referring to was the obvious improvement in his mechanics aND his shot on general, at the beginning of the preseason. He was clearly improved until he hurt his wrist
Does anyone actually think this guy could get over 10 ppg? I don’t see him being an elite scorer. Good player but he seems to be a little undersized playing the 3.
He’s 6’7, that’s a fine size for a wing player. LeBron, in comparison, is 6’8; Jimmy Butler is 6’7; Andre Iguodala is 6’6…yet all three play mainly SF. And not that Winslow is undersized, but effort and fundamentals can make up for being undersized. Look at Draymond Green who plays against opposing bigs every night but is only 6’7 as well.

That’s without shoes though right? At least on most sites it says he’s 6’7 and some scouting thing said he’s 6’4 without shoes.
He is closer to 6″5 1/2- 6″6 in shoes
One of the biggest busts of his draft class. Showed nothing when healthy. Being healthy is not having ability. Now he has neither health nor ability.
How is he one of the biggest busts? Because he’s not averaging All-Star numbers? Everyone knew he would be a really good defender who could turn into something good if his offense came around. He’s had success as a defender so at worst, he’s lived up to what he was billed up to be.
And he is only 20 years old.
Being young is not an “ability.” Just ask every journeyman in the NBA who was young, once. When a player is struggling to establish himself in the NBA, and has had ample time to do that, to give him a “pass” before he becomes productive on both sides of the ball, is the folly far too many General Managers fall victim too. We have one of them in Philadelphia, who is more stuck in the mud, when it comes to making mandated changes, than just about anyone else in the game.
Winslow is not averaging journeyman numbers, either. The all-star part you can forget about, right now. Ain’t gonna happen, not now, not at 25, not at 30.
