<ul>
<li><strong>Hawks</strong> GM <strong>Danny Ferry</strong> was noncommittal when asked by <a href="http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/atlanta-hawks/2013/jun/18/pre-draft-notes-no-decision-restricted-free-agents/" target="_blank">Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution</a> if the team planned to extend qualifying offers to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/teaguje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jeff Teague</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/johnsiv01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ivan Johnson</a></strong>. I&#39;d be pretty surprised if Teague didn&#39;t receive a qualifying offer, considering he&#39;s unlikely to accept the one-year offer and it could always be rescinded if Atlanta needed to clear cap space.</li>
<li>In addition to <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/dario-saric-to-withdraw-from-draft.html" target="_blank"><strong>Dario Saric</strong></a>, <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/draft-rumors-cavs-celtics-ledo-pelle-zeller.html" target="_blank"><strong>Norvel Pelle</strong></a>, and the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/international-prospects-draft-decisions.html" target="_blank">14 international prospects</a> we identified in yesterday&#39;s post, <strong>Viktor Gaddefors</strong> and <strong>Joshua Simmons</strong> also withdrew from the 2013 draft, the NBA <a href="http://www.nba.com/2013/news/06/18/2013-draft-withdrawals/index.html" target="_blank">announced today</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Warriors</strong> head coach <strong>Mark Jackson</strong> tells Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News (<a href="https://twitter.com/timkawakami/status/347067166107004928" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>) that he and the team haven&#39;t had any recent talks about a contract extension, and he&#39;s fine with that.</li>
<li>Although the <strong>Mavericks</strong> were <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/monta-ellis-to-exercise-eto-become-free-agent.html" target="_blank">recently named</a> as a potential suitor for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ellismo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Monta  Ellis</a></strong>, <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4696348/is-monta-ellis-a-match-for-the-mavs" target="_blank">Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com</a> thinks the veteran guard is &quot;far from a perfect fit&quot; for the Mavs.</li>
<li>The <strong>Bulls</strong> could go in a number of different directions on draft night, but the most likely outcome will see the club drafting a big man, says <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/14410/bulls-have-flexibility-but-big-man-likely" target="_blank">Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com</a>.</li>
<li>They may not have reached a trade agreement with the <strong>Celtics</strong>, but the <strong>Clippers</strong> still figure to be very active this offseason, writes <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/clippers/post/_/id/4655/clippers-are-far-from-done-dealing" target="_blank">Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com</a>.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ellismo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Monta Ellis</a></strong> has informed the Bucks he&#39;ll exercise the early termination option on his contract, eliminating the final year of the deal, reports <a href="http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/9395337/monta-ellis-milwaukee-bucks-opt-contract-sources" target="_blank">ESPN.com&#39;s Chris Broussard</a>. The move means Ellis will officially become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.</p>
<p>Ellis&#39; decision doesn&#39;t come as a surprise, since we heard <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/monta-ellis-likely-to-opt-out.html" target="_blank">two months ago</a> he was likely to opt out. The Bucks <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/bucks-offered-monta-ellis-two-year-extension.html" target="_blank">reportedly offered</a> Ellis an extension that would have hinged on him declining the ETO to receive an overall three-year, $36MM commitment from the team. Considering the veteran guard apparently passed on that offer, it was only a matter of time until he officially opted out to test the open market.</p>
<p>The 2013/14 option on Ellis&#39; deal would have paid him $11MM. I&#39;m skeptical that he&#39;ll see many offers that match or exceed that annual salary. However, if he can secure a long-term deal at a slightly lesser yearly rate, the decision still makes sense -- especially if he prefers to play for a team besides the Bucks.</p>
<p>Based on <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/bucks-rumors-ellis-sanders-coaching-search.html" target="_blank">multiple</a> <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/monta-ellis-interested-in-kings.html" target="_blank">reports</a>, it appears likely that the Kings will have some level of interest in Ellis, who figures to draw attention from plenty of clubs in need of backcourt help. Broussard identifies the Hawks, Mavericks, and Lakers as other probable suitors for Ellis, though the Lakers would seem to be a long shot, given their cap situation.</p>
<p>Ellis becomes the second player to exercise an early termination option on his contract this offseason. <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong> <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/andre-iguodala-to-decline-player-option.html" target="_blank">opted out</a> of his deal last week, though the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2012/12/201314-nba-team-and-player-options.html" target="_blank">other players</a> who have ETOs for 2013/14 are unlikely to exercise them.</p></div>

We&#39;ve got more on the Celtics saga and other news from the East:</p>
<ul>
<li>The <strong>Hawks</strong> hired <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hamda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Darvin Ham</a></strong> as an assistant coach, the team <a href="http://www.nba.com/hawks/news/darvin-ham-returns-hawks-organization-assistant-coach" target="_blank">announced</a>, prompting ESPN&#39;s Chris Broussard to speculate that the move was done in part to appeal to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> (<a href="https://twitter.com/Chris_Broussard/status/345941609562664962" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>). Ham has been an assistant with the <strong>Lakers</strong> the past two years, and worked with Howard this year. The<strong> Bobcats</strong> also had interest in Ham, as Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com notes via <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/status/345965187981012992" target="_blank">Twitter</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Celtics</strong> GM <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aingeda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danny Ainge</a></strong> still believes coach <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/riverdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Doc Rivers</a></strong> will return for next season, according to <a href="http://bostonherald.com/sports/celtics_nba/nba_coverage/2013/06/danny_ainge_awaits_doc_s_big_decision" target="_blank">Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald</a>, who hears from an agent who figures that Rivers won&#39;t coach any team next season.</li>
<li>The <strong>Celtics</strong> will have to rebuild sooner or later, <a href="http://therotation.sportsonearthblog.com/right-time-for-rebuilding/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+UsatodaycomNba-TopStories+%28Sports+-+NBA+-+Top+Stories%29" target="_blank">Shaun Powell of Sports on Earth</a>&#0160;argues. Powell&#0160;says that now appears to best time to do so, and he lays out a plan that involves waiving Pierce, letting Rivers coach the <strong>Clippers</strong>, and dangling Garnett&#0160;in trade offers.</li>

If the Hawks renounce all their cap holds and keep their pair of first-round picks, they&#39;d be about $1.9MM shy of the cap space necessary to sign <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Paul</a></strong>, providing next season&#39;s salary cap checks in at the&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/implications-of-a-possible-585mm-salary-cap.html" target="_blank">projected</a>&#0160;$58.5MM. With half a month to go until teams and free agents can start lining up agreements, here&#39;s more from around the Association:</p>
<ul>
<li>Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, who broke the news that <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong> will opt out and become a free agent, listed Detroit&#0160;as a&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/andre-iguodala-to-decline-player-option.html" target="_blank">likely suitor</a>, and&#0160;<a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20130614/SPORTS03/306140144/1051/sports03" target="_blank">Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press</a>&#0160;echoes that sentiment, writing that the <strong>Pistons</strong> like the veteran small forward.</li>
<li><strong>Nuggets</strong> president Josh Kroenke <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/northwest-notes-nuggets-karl-wolves.html" target="_blank">cited</a> <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gallida01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danilo Gallinari</a></strong>&#39;s lengthy recovery from a torn ACL when he explained the team&#39;s decision to let go of <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/karlge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">George Karl</a></strong>, but now it appears Gallinari could be back in December, not February, as <a href="http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_23463979/nuggets-danilo-gallinari-might-return-sooner-than-expected?source=rss&amp;utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+dp-sports-nuggets+%28Denver+Post%3A+Sports%3A+Nuggets%29" target="_blank">Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post</a> reports.</li>
<li><a href="http://newsok.com/should-the-thunder-trade-down/article/3851708" target="_blank">Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman</a>&#0160;makes a compelling case that the <strong>Thunder</strong> should trade the 12th pick in the draft to the <strong>Hawks</strong> for the 17th and 18th selections. Part of the financial side of the argument is based on Mayberry&#39;s expectation that OKC won&#39;t re-sign <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/martike02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kevin Martin</a></strong> and won&#39;t look to replace him via free agency.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Anosike-working-out-for-Celtics-4599889.php" target="_blank">Mark Singelais of the Albany Times Union</a> profiles Siena forward&#0160;<strong>O.D. Anosike</strong>, a second-round hopeful who joined <strong><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hardati01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Tim  Hardaway</a></strong> Jr., <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/ricegl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Glen  Rice</a></strong> Jr.</strong>, <strong>Jackie Carmichael</strong> and others in a group workout Thursday for the <strong>Celtics</strong>.&#0160;</li>
<li><a href="http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2013/06/detroit_pistons_release_anothe.html" target="_blank">MLive&#39;s David Mayo</a>&#0160;passes along a list of players who worked out for the <strong>Pistons</strong> this week: <strong>Andre Roberson, Robert Covington, James Southerland, Adonis Thomas, Mareks Mejeris,&#0160;A&#39;uston Calhoun, Nick Minnerath</strong> and <strong>Kwame Vaughn</strong>.</li>
<li>Small-market owners may have been the prime movers behind the latest CBA, but they&#39;re still hamstrung by unbalanced local TV revenues. That could lead to another work stoppage and watered-down rosters across the league, <a href="http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/9386566/2013-nba-playoffs-big-market-vs-small-market" target="_blank">ESPN&#39;s J.A. Sports</a>. According to Wojnarowski, agent Rob Pelinka informed Nuggets CEO <strong>Josh Kroenke</strong> of the decision on Thursday.</p>
<p><em>&quot;We are fully aware of Andre&#39;s intentions and he&#39;s well aware of how much
 we want him back,&quot;</em> Kroenke said. <em>&quot;Andre us a huge priority for our
organization.&quot;</em></p>
<p>While there appears to be mutual interest between Nuggets and Iguodala in a new deal, Denver is currently without a GM or coach, which makes the situation a little murkier. There will also be plenty of clubs vying for the 29-year-old&#39;s services. Wojnarowski names the Hawks, Cavaliers, Mavericks, Rockets, Pistons, and Pelicans as likely suitors.</p>
<p>An official decision from Iguodala is due by June 25th, but assuming he opts out, he&#39;ll be eligible for a new five-year contract from the Nuggets or a four-year deal from another team. He&#39;ll pass up a 2013/14 salary that Wojnarowski cites as $15.9MM, though various salary databases have it at $16.15MM -- that salary included $250K in likely incentives, so perhaps those incentives are now listed as unlikely.</p>
<p>In any case, although I&#39;m skeptical that Iguodala will land an annual salary that exceeds the approximate $16MM he would have earned on his current contract, he&#39;ll certainly be able to secure a significantly larger guarantee in a new long-term deal.</p></div>

According to Kyler, the Lakers, Hawks, Rockets, Mavericks, Spurs, and Nets are all expected to pursue the All-Star center this offseason.</p>
<p>We&#39;ve heard plenty about the interest that a handful of those teams have in Howard -- the Lakers <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/kupchak-talks-dwight-recruiting-improvement.html" target="_blank">remain optimistic</a> about re-signing him, while the Hawks, Rockets, and Mavs are all seeking an impact player and have a good chance to create room for a maximum contract offer. The Spurs and Nets, on the other hand, haven&#39;t been mentioned in the Howard discussion with the same amount of frequency, though I think there are reasons for that.</p>
<p>In the Nets&#39; case, while we&#39;ve heard they <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/atlantic-rumors-sixers-sampson-howard-kidd.html" target="_blank">still maintain interest</a> in Howard, they also have $86MM+ in salary commitments for next season. Without the cap space to sign D12 outright, they&#39;d need to complete a sign-and-trade, and ultimately end up below the tax apron, which figures to be in the neighborhood of $75.6MM. Given the amount of undesirable contracts on the roster, it&#39;s hard to envision a scenario in which the team is able to make something work, even if Kyler <a href="https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/status/345150102760988672" target="_blank">tweets</a> that they&#39;re &quot;willing to do whatever it takes.&quot;</p>
<p>As for the Spurs, they&#39;ve been linked to Howard <a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/can-spurs-supplant-lakers-steal-howard" target="_blank">multiple</a> <a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-chat-with-bill-ingram-6213" target="_blank">times</a> by Kyler&#39;s fellow writers at HoopsWorld. Their path to cap room is easier, but they still likely won&#39;t have quite enough space for a max offer. Clearing the necessary cap room would also figure to mean parting ways with <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/ginobma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Manu Ginobili</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/splitti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Tiago Splitter</a></strong>, unless those players were inclined to agree to significant home discounts. On top of that, I&#39;m skeptical that a team whose chemistry is arguably unmatched around the league would risk making such a big commitment to Howard, considering the circus that&#39;s followed him around the last two seasons.</p>
<p>Even if the Nets and Spurs are long shots for Howard, we&#39;ve heard that <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/western-links-gay-howard-mavs-hornacek.html" target="_blank">he&#39;ll be willing to listen</a> to pitches from just about any interested team, so plenty of clubs will have the chance to at least kick the tires this summer.</p></div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong>TUESDAY, 4:01pm:</strong> The third team fined for tampering was the Kings, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/06/10/nba-teams-filing-tampering-charges/2409499/" target="_blank">according to Amick</a>. Sacramento confirmed as much, telling USA Today that the team &quot;accepts the league&#39;s decision regarding this matter, and regrets any infraction of the policy.&quot;</p>
<p>Stein <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/344561115721773057" target="_blank">tweets</a> that the violation occurred when head coach <strong>Michael Malone</strong> mentioned Paul during his introductory press conference.</p>
<p><strong>MONDAY, 5:29pm:</strong> The NBA has sent out a leaguewide memo notifying teams that three clubs have been fined for violating the Association&#39;s anti-tampering policy, according to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/06/10/nba-teams-filing-tampering-charges/2409499/" target="_blank">Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today</a>. Amick and Zillgitt report that the Hawks were one of the three teams penalized, while <a href="http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9362896/sources-three-nba-teams-fined-tampering-ahead-free-agency" target="_blank">ESPN.com&#39;s Marc Stein</a> says the Rockets were another.</p>
<p>According to the USA Today report, the NBA memo read in part: <em>&quot;The conduct at issue involved statements by a team employee to the
media, a team email to prospective season ticket purchasers, and
articles posted online on a team website, each related to players who
are currently under contract to other teams but who will become free
agents this summer.&quot;</em></p>
<p>The email sent to prospective season ticket purchases is a reference to a letter sent out by the Hawks, in which <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Paul</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> were <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/eastern-notes-raptors-bucks-pacers-hawks.html" target="_blank">specifically named</a> as potential free agent targets for the team. According to Stein, the articles posted on a team website refers to material on the Rockets&#39; official site. Houston was fined a &quot;small&quot; amount for the infraction, says Stein.</p>
<p>The identity of the third team fined isn&#39;t known.</p></div>

coach <strong>Tom Thibodeau</strong> and <strong>Pelicans</strong> coach <strong>Monty  Williams</strong> will be the new
additions to Mike Krzyzewski&#39;s staff. Here are a few more Monday odds and ends from around the NBA:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Timberwolves</strong> president <strong>Flip Saunders</strong> tells <a href="http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/06/09/timberwolves-expect-adelman-to-return/" target="_blank">Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com</a>
 that every indication points to <strong>Rick Adelman</strong> returning as the team&#39;s
head coach next season. Saunders also addresses <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pekovni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nikola Pekovic</a></strong>&#39;s free
agency (&quot;We plan on signing him&quot;) and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kirilan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andrei  Kirilenko</a></strong>&#39;s player option
(&quot;We don&#39;t have a gut feel [what he&#39;ll decide]&quot;) within the piece.</li>
<li><strong>Celtics</strong> head coach <strong>Doc Rivers</strong> has yet to officially state whether he&#39;ll return to Boston&#39;s bench next season, telling <a href="http://www.boston.com/sports/2013/06/09/celtics-coach-doc-rivers-remains-mum-about-coaching-future/X9jGV8rebHbDZMV6tg8ikI/story.html" target="_blank">Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe</a> that he&#39;d address his future soon.</li>
<li>In his <a href="http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/06/08/tracy-mcgrady-his-first-nba-finals-but-bench-player-reflects-his-star-crossed-career/oiyMmOuc12G2hscqP4A11O/story.html?s_campaign=sm_tw" target="_blank">weekend notes column</a> for the Boston Globe, Washburn speculated that the <strong>Bobcats</strong> could be interested in trying to trade for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boshch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Bosh</a></strong> this summer, but <a href="http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2013/06/charlotte-bobcats-acquiring-miami-heats-chris-bosh-would-make-little-sense.html" target="_blank">Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer</a> doesn&#39;t see Bosh as a fit for Charlotte.</li>
<li>Asked about a potential <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/denglu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Luol  Deng</a></strong> trade, Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld <a href="https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/status/343994418635886592" target="_blank">tweets</a> that he has heard the <strong>Bulls</strong>
 don&#39;t intend to change their core significantly this summer. With Deng
and others coming off the books in the summer of 2014, the roster
figures to see more turnover a year from now.</li>
<li>CSKA Moscow assistant <strong>Quin Snyder</strong> has officially left the team to return stateside, the club <a href="http://www.cskabasket.com/news/?id=12619" target="_blank">announced</a> today (English link via <a href="http://www.sportando.net/eng/europe/russia/56848/quin-snyder-officially-leaves-cska-moscow.html" target="_blank">Sportando</a>). Last week, ESPN.com&#39;s Marc Stein <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/nuggets-eyeing-lionel-hollins-brian-shaw.html" target="_blank">named Snyder</a> as a potential under-the-radar candidate for the <strong>Nuggets</strong>&#39; head coaching job, but I think it&#39;s probably more likely that Snyder ends up as an NBA assistant somewhere.</li>
<li>Last June, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millemi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mike Miller</a></strong>&#39;s injury problems had him contemplating the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2012/06/mike-miller-to-decide-on-future-soon.html" target="_blank">possibility of retirement</a>, but he&#39;s certainly feeling better a year later. Miller tells <a href="http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/228077/Mike-Miller-Healthy-To-Extend-NBA-Career" target="_blank">Shams Charania of RealGM.com</a> that he feels like he has four or five seasons left in him.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/playoffs/2013/06/09/coaching-coaches-fired-george-karl-larry-drew-keith-smart-alvin-gentry/2405871/" target="_blank">Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today</a> attempts to determine why there have been so many head coaching changes in the NBA this offseason, while <a href="http://www.nba.com/2013/news/features/david_aldridge/06/10/morning-tip-new-coaches-in-new-places-adjustments-in-playoffs-qa-with-danny-granger/index.html?ls=nbahpsplit3" target="_blank">TNT&#39;s David Aldridge</a> tackles the same topic in his own column at NBA.com. Aldridge also examines new <strong>Hawks</strong> head coach <strong>Mike Budenholzer</strong> and asks <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/grangda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danny Granger</a></strong> about being the subject of frequent trade rumors.</li>

Amico has plenty more notes on the Cavs, so let&#39;s check out the highlights from his piece....</p>
<ul>
<li>Due to concerns about <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/v/varejan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Anderson Varejao</a></strong>&#39;s ability to stay healthy, the Cavs are expected to focus on adding frontcourt depth this summer.</li>

offseason targets as the club looks to add another big man, though the Timberwolves will have the ability to match an offer sheet for the restricted Pekovic, and I&#39;d be surprised if the Hawks traded Horford.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bynuman01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andrew Bynum</a></strong> isn&#39;t on Cleveland&#39;s radar, but the team is still eyeing <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/o/odengr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Greg Oden</a></strong>, in spite of some skepticism about the health of his knees.</li>
<li>The Cavs also have reservations about <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/grangda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danny Granger</a></strong>&#39;s knee problems, but still have interest if the Pacers consider moving him, which it sounds like they will.</li>
<li>The Mavericks continue to &quot;intensely&quot; shop the No. 13 overall pick, with one offer asking for the Cavs&#39; 31st and 33rd overall picks, along with a 2014 selection, in exchange for the 13th pick and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mariosh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Shawn Marion</a></strong>. Cleveland turned down that proposal, but the club remains a willing trade partner, with only <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/irvinky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kyrie Irving</a></strong> viewed as untouchable.</li>
<li>Cleveland remains interested in <strong>Alex Len</strong> and <strong>Otto Porter</strong>, but would probably want to trade down a little to draft either player, rather than selecting one of them first overall. However, trading down a few spots &quot;appears very unlikely,&quot; according to Amico.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>As I noted yesterday when examining the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/longest-tenured-coaches-in-the-nba.html" target="_blank">longest-tenured coaches in the NBA</a>, four teams - the <strong>Pistons</strong>, <strong>76ers</strong>, <strong>Nets</strong>, and <strong>Clippers</strong> - are still in the market for a new head coach, while a couple other positions could open up later in the offseason. In addition to those head coaching openings, plenty of assistants are being hired, or moving from one NBA team to another. Here are today&#39;s rumors on those head coaching searches and the assistant coaching carousel:</p>
<ul>
<li>Although the <strong>Clippers</strong> have asked and received permission to speak to <strong>Lionel Hollins</strong>, the <strong>Nets</strong>&#39; initial request to speak to Hollins was turned down, according to Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal (<a href="https://twitter.com/CAGrizBlog/status/342346018219773952" target="_blank">Twitter</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/CAGrizBlog/status/342346205361217536" target="_blank">links</a>). Tillery adds that Brooklyn has yet to make another request since being denied on the day after the <strong>Grizzlies</strong>&#39; season ended.</li>
<li>No teams have requested permission yet to speak to <strong>Grizzlies</strong> assistant <strong>Dave Joerger</strong>, but the Sixers are believed to have interest, <a href="https://twitter.com/CAGrizBlog/status/342347777554141185" target="_blank">tweets Tillery</a>.</li>
<li>A report yesterday <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/nets-sixers-have-contacted-larry-brown.html" target="_blank">indicated</a> that the <strong>Nets</strong> and <strong>Sixers</strong> were among the teams that have contacted <strong>Larry Brown</strong> about their head coaching openings. Brown threw cold water on that report today though, according to <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/deep-sixer/Larry-Brown-on-coaching-Sixers-hypothetical.html" target="_blank">John N. Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquirer</a>, saying he&#39;s happy at SMU. <a href="http://www.csnphilly.com/basketball-philadelphia-sixers/source-sixers-contacted-brown-who-wants-run-team" target="_blank">CSNPhilly.com</a>, meanwhile, reports that Brown would likely have interest in returning to the NBA if it meant running a franchise. I&#39;d be surprised if anything came of this.</li>
</ul>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Earlier updates:</strong></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Less than 24 hours after ESPN.com&#39;s Marc Stein and Chris Broussard <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/nets-seriously-considering-brian-shaw.html" target="_blank">reported</a> that <strong>Brian Shaw</strong> was a &quot;serious target&quot; for the <strong>Nets</strong>, <a href="http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/9343666/brian-shaw-indiana-pacers-los-angeles-clippers-no-1-choice-coach" target="_blank">Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com</a> reports that Shaw also appears to be the <strong>Clippers</strong>&#39; top choice at this point. Since no official interviews have been conducted yet, the situation remains fluid, but the Clippers are intrigued by Shaw&#39;s youth, championship experience, and developmental skills, according to Shelburne.</li>
<li>Talks between <strong>Jeff Van Gundy</strong> and the <strong>Clippers</strong> have cooled, and the team has yet to ask permission to speak to <strong>Nuggets</strong> coach <strong>George Karl</strong>, though he remains a possible target. <strong>Lionel Hollins</strong>, <strong>Byron Scott</strong>, and <strong>Alvin Gentry</strong> also remain under consideration for Los Angeles, says Shelburne.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-clippers-brian-shaw-20130604,0,7499978.story" target="_blank">Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times</a> provides the same list of contenders for the <strong>Clippers</strong>&#39; job, though he&#39;s even more bearish on the likelihood of the team hiring Van Gundy, writing that he&#39;s essentially &quot;out of the running.&quot; Shaw, meanwhile is gaining momentum for the position, according to Turner.</li>
<li>Although the <strong>Pistons</strong>&#39; search appears to have been narrowed down to <strong>Nate McMillan</strong> and <strong>Maurice Cheeks</strong>, there&#39;s no guarantee a decision happens this week, sources tell <a href="http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2013/06/detroit_pistons_coaching_profi.html" target="_blank">David Mayo of MLive.com</a>.</li>
<li>Following up on a report from <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/knicks-great-ewing-join-charlotte-staff-article-1.1357180?localLinksEnabled=false" target="_blank">Frank Isola of the New York Daily News</a> last week which suggested <strong>Patrick Ewing</strong> could be hired as an assistant in Charlotte, <a href="http://www.csnnw.com/article/ewing-meet-bobcats-possibly-kings-lead-assistant-position" target="_blank">Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com</a> says Ewing is interviewing for the <strong>Bobcats</strong>&#39; lead assistant job today. The former Knicks big man has also received interest from the <strong>Kings</strong>, writes Haynes.</li>
<li>Newly-hired <strong>Kings</strong> head coach <strong>Michael Malone</strong> is also talking to Ohio State assistant <strong>Chris Jent</strong> about joining his staff in Sacramento, <a href="https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/342140259263471617" target="_blank">tweets</a> Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.</li>
<li>Yet another <strong>Lakers</strong> assistant coach appears to be on his way out of L.A., as <strong>Darvin Ham</strong> will talk to the <strong>Bobcats</strong> and <strong>Hawks</strong> about a spot on their respective staffs, according to <a href="http://www.dailynews.com/lakers/ci_23390557/lakers-assistant-coach-darvin-ham-will-talk-atlanta" target="_blank">Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News</a>.</li>

<li>The <strong>Lakers</strong> have granted the <strong>Hawks</strong> and <strong>Bobcats</strong> permission to speak to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hamda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Darvin Ham</a></strong>, currently an assistant in L.A., about joining their staffs, <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkG_Medina/status/342057864648593410" target="_blank">tweets</a> Mark Medina of the L.A. <li>While the <strong>Lakers</strong> certainly have a built-in advantage when it comes to signing <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong>, there are plenty of factors that make him obtainable for other teams, <a href="http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9340696/nba-where-dwight-howard-land" target="_blank">writes ESPN salary cap guru Larry Coon</a>.&#0160; In this Insider only piece, Coon breaks down what it will take for Howard to land with the <strong>Rockets</strong> or <strong>Mavericks</strong>, both of which are considered realistic destinations. </li>
<li>It looks like new <strong>Kings</strong> head coach <strong>Michael Malone</strong> will not retain any assistant coaches from <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smartke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Keith  Smart</a></strong>&#39;s staff from last season, <a href="https://twitter.com/mr_jasonjones/status/342028324006162432" target="_blank">tweets</a> Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee.&#0160; According to the <a href="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/media/2.0/teamsites/kings/staff.pdf" target="_blank">team&#39;s media guide</a>, Smart&#39;s staff consisted of assistants <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/englial01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Alex  English</a></strong>, <strong>Jim Eyen</strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jacksbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Bobby  Jackson</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/raycl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Clifford  Ray</a></strong>.&#0160; </li>
<li><strong>Suns</strong> managing partner <strong>Robert Sarver</strong> understands that his team&#39;s rebuilding process could be long and painful, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2013/06/04/phoenix-suns-rebuilding/2389669/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+UsatodaycomNba-TopStories+%28Sports+-+NBA+-+Top+Stories%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader" target="_blank">writes Paul Coro for USA Today</a>.&#0160; With the No. 5 pick in a draft that seems devoid of high-end talent, and not enough star power to lure one of the big-time free agents, franchises like Phoenix need this patient approach to avoid the pitfalls of trying to rebuild too quickly.&#0160; </li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>At a morning press conference in Toronto today, the <strong>Raptors</strong> introduced new GM and president of basketball operations <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong>, who returns to the Raps after having previously served as the team&#39;s assistant GM. <a href="http://blog.raptors.com/masai-ujiri-citizen-of-the-world-comes-home/" target="_blank">Mike Ulmer of Raptors.com</a> has the details on Ujiri&#39;s re-introduction to Toronto media, which included a noncommital response when asked if coach <strong>Dwane Casey</strong> would be back.</p>
<p><em>&quot;I need two or three weeks where Coach and I are going to figure out
whether this thing is going to go forward for the next year,&quot;</em> Ujiri said. <em>&quot;Right now, I
 don’t see any reason why [he won&#39;t be back].&quot;</em></p>
<p>Despite having only spent two seasons on the Raptors&#39; bench, Casey ranks among the top half of the league&#39;s longest-tenured head coaches, as I <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/longest-tenured-coaches-in-the-nba.html" target="_blank">outlined earlier this afternoon</a>. As we wait to see what his future holds, here are a few more items from around the Eastern Conference:</p>
<ul>
<li>At yesterday&#39;s press conference introducing new head coach <strong><strong>Larry Drew</strong></strong>, <strong>Bucks</strong> owner Herb Kohl told reporters, including <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/209958411.html" target="_blank">Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel</a> that undergoing a full-scale rebuild and bottoming out isn&#39;t an option for the team. <em>&quot;There are different ways teams conduct their business in the sports
leagues,&quot;</em> Kohl said. <em>&quot;And I like to see that we put a competitive

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reported earlier today that the Cavs <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/bobcats-interested-in-cousins-not-cavs.html" target="_blank">aren&#39;t going after</a> <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">DeMarcus Cousins</a></strong>, and he has plenty more on Cleveland&#39;s team in his <a href="http://www.foxsportsohio.com/story/cavs-notebook-noel-could-be-no-1-but-may?blockID=907621&amp;feedID=3725#disqus_thread" target="_blank">latest dispatch</a>. He gets credit for the updates below, unless otherwise noted.</p>
<ul>
<li>The Cavaliers have tried and failed to pry <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/loveke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kevin Love</a></strong> from the <strong>Timberwolves</strong>, and their alternative may be to go after center <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pekovni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nikola Pekovic</a></strong>, one of the leading restricted free agents. Cleveland has the cap room to make him an offer of $12MM or better, a price Wolves owner Glen Taylor has said he <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/wolves-rumors-kahn-pekovic-ridnour-curry.html" target="_blank">won&#39;t pay</a>.&#0160;</li>
<li>The Blazers have no interest in <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/thomptr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Tristan  Thompson</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/waitedi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dion  Waiters</a></strong> or draft picks, and have turned down the Cavs&#39; inquiries about <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aldrila01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">LaMarcus  Aldridge</a></strong>.&#0160;</li>
<li><strong>Nerlens Noel</strong> says he&#39;ll be ready to play around Christmas, but the Cavaliers don&#39;t think he&#39;ll be back from his ACL injury until February or March. The team remains undecided about whether Noel will be the No. 1 pick, and Amico confirms that <strong>Otto Porter</strong> is also in the mix for that selection.</li>
<li>Amico hears the Cavs are willing to trade up to nab <strong>Sergey Karasev</strong> in the middle of the first round if it doesn&#39;t look like he&#39;ll fall to them at No. 19. The Cavs are also high on <strong>Alex Len</strong>, and he could be theirs if they trade out of the No. 1 pick.</li>
<li>The Cavs like <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/livinsh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Shaun Livingston</a></strong>, but he&#39;s seeking a larger payday than the team wants to give him.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/casspom01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Omri  Casspi</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/waltolu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Luke  Walton</a></strong> probably won&#39;t be re-signed, but the Cavs hope to bring back <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ellinwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Wayne  Ellington</a></strong>.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2013/06/should_the_cleveland_cavaliers_2.html" target="_blank">The Plain Dealer&#39;s Mary Schmitt Boyer</a> answers reader questions in her mailbag column, and opines that <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/horfoal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Al Horford</a></strong> makes more sense as a trade target for the Cavs than Love or Aldridge do.&#0160;</li>

That&#39;s not entirely surprising, since Atlanta is on track to have enough cap room for a pair of max free agents. The Hawks probably wouldn&#39;t make West their top priority, since they seem ready to go after <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Paul</a></strong>, but if they strike out on them, West might not be too far down the list. Here&#39;s more as we enter the final month before free agency starts:</div>
<ul>
<li>Rival teams may have been behind a <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/cousins-a-goner-in-sacramento.html" target="_blank">report</a> that the <strong>Kings</strong> are ready to trade <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">DeMarcus Cousins</a></strong>, Deveney hears, adding that the team&#39;s new owners have yet to decide what they want to do with the turbulent big man. Deveney wonders if the Kings might do some message-management of their own and have incoming coach Michael Malone talk up Cousins to increase his value.</li>
<li>As for Cousins, sources tell Jason Jones of The Sacramento Bee that he isn&#39;t looking for a trade (<a href="https://twitter.com/mr_jasonjones/status/340576645423431680" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/ginobma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Manu Ginobili</a></strong>&#39;s contract is up June 30th, but he told&#0160;<a href="http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2013/05/31/ginobili-im-not-planning-on-retiring/" target="_blank">Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News</a>&#0160;that he has no plans to retire. The 35-year-old seems likely to return to the&#0160;<strong>Spurs</strong>&#0160;and expects to take a paycut to do so, though he and agent Herb Rudoy aren&#39;t starting negotiations with the team until July 1st.</li>
<li>The <strong>Celtics</strong> attempted to acquire either <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millspa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Paul  Millsap</a></strong> or <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jeffeal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Al  Jefferson</a></strong> at the trade deadline, but couldn&#39;t work out a deal with the <strong>Jazz</strong> for one of their big men, <a href="https://twitter.com/gdickerson_csn/status/340479111099207680" target="_blank">tweets</a> Greg Dickerson of CSNNE.com. Boston is reportedly <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/celtics-rumors-schroeder-kg-millsap-rivers.html" target="_blank">interested</a> in Millsap as a free agent.</li>
<li>The <strong>Rockets</strong> plan to pursue Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, but with the league telling teams to expect a&#0160;$58.5 million salary cap and $71.5MM tax line next season, squeezing both onto the team will be nearly impossible, as <a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-pm-houston-targeting-chris-paul-too?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=nba-pm-houston-targeting-chris-paul-too" target="_blank">HoopsWorld&#39;s Bill Ingram examines</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Kelvin Sampson</strong> would have been <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jennibr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Brandon  Jennings</a></strong>&#39; choice to coach the<strong> Bucks</strong>, reports Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times. The team <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/bucks-hire-larry-drew.html" target="_blank">hired</a> <strong><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/drewla01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Larry  Drew</a></strong></strong> instead, a choice that was definitely GM <strong>John Hammond</strong>&#39;s call, unlike the team&#39;s hiring of former coach <strong><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/skilesc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Scott  Skiles</a></strong></strong> (<a href="https://twitter.com/GeryWoelfel/status/340594480866549760" target="_blank">Twitter</a>&#0160;<a href="https://twitter.com/GeryWoelfel/status/340595300643250176" target="_blank">links</a>).</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong>&#0160;is leaning toward signing with the Rockets, but he&#39;ll&#0160;meet with every potential suitor once free agency begins July 1st,&#0160;according to HoopsWorld&#39;s Alex Kennedy (<a href="https://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA/status/340644117501591552" target="_blank">Twitter</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA/status/340643695143567360" target="_blank">links</a>). The Rockets are <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/rockets-increasingly-hopeful-of-signing-howard.html" target="_blank">increasingly optimistic</a> about their chances to land the big man, though given the indecisiveness he&#39;s shown in the past, Houston may not be his preferred destination by July 10th, the first day he can sign a contract.</p>
<p>Officials from teams other than the Lakers can&#39;t talk to Howard until July 1st, but that doesn&#39;t preclude players on opposing teams from chatting with him and trying to influence his decision. Howard has already spoken with <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hardeja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">James Harden</a></strong>, sources tell Kennedy, who believes Howard and Rockets sharpshooter <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/parsoch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chandler Parsons</a></strong> have spoken as well (<a href="https://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA/status/340647670534258688" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>). A conversation with Parsons might have been somewhat odd, since there&#39;s a chance he might not be around if the Rockets end up with Howard. Parsons&#39; $926,500 contract for next season, partially guaranteed for $600K, could wind up a casualty of the team&#39;s effort to clear cap space, as Salary Cap FAQ author Larry Coon <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/texas-rumors-griner-mavs-rockets.html" target="_blank">surmised</a>&#0160;last month. Houston already appears to be <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/rockets-shopping-robinson-for-more-cap-space.html" target="_blank">shopping</a> <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinth01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Thomas Robinson</a></strong> in an effort to make room for Howard.&#0160;</p>
<p>The Rockets, along with the Lakers, Mavericks and Hawks, appear to be the most fervent suitors of Howard, though Kennedy reported a couple of weeks ago that there&#39;s still <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/atlantic-rumors-sixers-sampson-howard-kidd.html" target="_blank">mutual interest</a> between Howard and the Nets. Brooklyn&#39;s salary cap limitations would make it almost impossible for him to wind up there, but if Howard is as open to pitches from teams as he seems to be, other clubs with cap room may get involved.&#0160;</p>
<p>Howard is&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/max-contract-scenarios-for-2013-free-agents.html" target="_blank">eligible for</a>&#0160;a contract of up to four years and about $87.59MM if he signs with a team other than the Lakers. If he stays with the purple and gold, he could get up to five years and $117.95MM.</p></div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Nuggets team president <strong>Josh Kroenke</strong>&#39;s strong relationship with <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong> was the primary force behind the outgoing Denver GM&#39;s hesitation to accept Toronto&#39;s five-year, $15MM offer to jump to the Raptors front office, writes <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--raptors-hire-nuggets-gm-masai-ujiri-to-run-front-office-214946966.html" target="_blank">Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports</a>. The Nuggets were willing to give Ujiri a deal worth $1.2MM a year, according to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/raptors/2013/05/31/masai-ujiri-toronto-raptors-general-manager/2372457/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+UsatodaycomNba-TopStories+%28Sports+-+NBA+-+Top+Stories%29" target="_blank">USA Today&#39;s Sam Amick</a>. Still, none of it was enough to convince Ujiri to stay, and now the Nuggets are the team looking for a new GM. There&#39;s early talk about several who could eventually get the job, as we detail below:</p>
<ul>
<li>Nuggets assistant GM<strong> Pete D&#39;Alessandro</strong> and director of player personnel <strong>Mike Bratz</strong> are viable options, sources tell Ken Berger of CBSSports.com (<a href="https://twitter.com/KBergCBS/status/340583704382558208" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).</li>
<li>Wojnarowski speculates that the Nuggets could promote D&#39;Alessandro or go after<strong> Cavaliers</strong> assistant GM <strong>David Griffin</strong>. The Nuggets offered Griffin the job in 2010, but he turned them down, leading Denver to turn to Ujiri.</li>
<li>Other executives who figure to be top candidates include <strong>Gersson Rosas</strong> of the<strong> Rockets</strong>, <strong>Bobby Marks</strong> of the <strong>Nets</strong>, <strong>Tim Connelly</strong> of the <strong>Pelicans</strong>, <strong>Wes Wilcox</strong> of the <strong>Hawks</strong> and <strong>Scott Perry</strong> of the <strong>Magic</strong>, according to Wojnarowski.</li>
<li>The Nuggets could have some competition if they want to go with D&#39;Alessandro, since <strong>Grizzlies</strong> GM <strong>Chris Wallace</strong>, the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/chris-wallace-frontrunner-for-kings-gm-job.html" target="_blank">leading candidate</a> to take the GM job in Sacramento, would like to hire him to work in the <strong>Kings</strong> front office, Amick reports (<a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/340591710004445184" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).&#0160;</li>
<li><strong>Warriors</strong> assistant GM <strong>Travis Schlenk</strong> <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/coaching-rumors-pistons-hollins-kings-76ers.html" target="_blank">interviewed</a> well with the <strong>Kings</strong>, Amick <a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/340594872056680450" target="_blank">tweets</a>, arguing that Schlenk could be a fit in Denver if it doesn&#39;t work out for him in Sacramento.</li>
<li>Assistant GMs <strong>Tommy Sheppard&#0160;</strong>of the <strong>Wizards</strong> and <strong>Jeff Weltman</strong> of the <strong>Bucks</strong> have ties to the Nuggets and bear watching as the Nuggets&#39; search takes place,&#0160;<a href="https://twitter.com/SpearsNBAYahoo/status/340584604627005440" target="_blank">tweets</a>&#0160;Marc J. <p>Here are a few more Wednesday odds and ends from around the NBA:</p>
<ul>
<li>After reporting <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/coaching-rumors-pistons-hollins-kings-76ers.html" target="_blank">earlier today</a> that the <strong>Kings</strong> would be interviewing Grizzlies GM <strong>Chris Wallace</strong>, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/05/29/sacramento-kings-general-manager-coach/2368429/" target="_blank">Sam Amick of USA Today</a> now says that interview has taken place.</li>

If it’s going to work out, who knows?&quot;</em></li>
<li>The <strong>Bucks</strong> will resume their draft workouts on Friday, with <strong>Shane Larkin</strong> and <strong><strong>Tim  Hardaway</strong> Jr.</strong> among a group of six players auditioning, <a href="https://twitter.com/GeryWoelfel/status/339792977130037248" target="_blank">tweets Woelfel</a>.</li>

<content type="xhtml" xml:lang="en-US" xml:base="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/">
<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Immediately after the Cavaliers won this year&#39;s draft lottery, <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/lottery-leftovers-cavs-mavs-blazers-wolves.html" target="_blank">we heard</a> that the team would be open to fielding trade offers for the first overall pick. But according to <a href="http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2013/05/29/kotoch-mock-draft-3-0-1-cavs-would-move-no-1-pick-for-kevin-love/" target="_blank">Joe Kotoch of SheridanHoops.com</a>, there&#39;s one particular the team with whom the Cavs would like to deal: The Timberwolves. Kotoch reports that the No. 1 pick would be available to the T-Wolves if they were willing to part with <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/loveke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kevin Love</a></strong>.</p>
<p>Kotoch&#39;s report doesn&#39;t come as a huge surprise -- Love is a two-time All-Star and was a member of the gold-medal U.S. Olympic team in 2012, so he&#39;s a proven commodity, whereas there&#39;s no real consensus top pick in this year&#39;s draft class. <strong>Nerlens Noel</strong>, who sits atop many draft boards, is recovering from ACL surgery. As such, it makes sense that the Cavs, who hope to earn a playoff spot next season, would target a veteran who could make an immediate impact.</p>
<p>Love has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate in the past because he and the Timberwolves have had an up-and-down relationship since the team was unwilling to give him the five-year rookie scale extension he was seeking. Still, with former GM <strong>David Kahn</strong> out of the picture and <strong>Flip Saunders</strong> now running the show in Minnesota, I&#39;d be shocked if the T-Wolves seriously considered moving Love this summer. Even if he does intent to opt out down the road, Love still has at least two more years remaining on his contract, so there&#39;d be plenty of time for the Wolves to weigh their options.</p>
<p>In addition to the nugget on the Cavs and Love, Kotoch shared a few more draft-related rumors to go along with his latest mock draft. Here are the highlights:</p>
<ul>
<li>Kotoch echoes a report by ESPN.com&#39;s Chad Ford (<a href="https://twitter.com/chadfordinsider/status/335087957159587842" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>) suggesting that <strong>Giannis Antetokounmpo</strong> has been given a first-round guarantee. According to Kotoch, two teams have made such a promise to the so-called &quot;Greek Freak,&quot; and Kotoch believes one of them may be the <strong>Hawks</strong>, who have two first-round picks.</li>
<li>The <strong>Jazz</strong> are interested in <strong>C.J. McCollum</strong>, but would be happy to select <strong>Michael Carter-Williams</strong> or <strong>Dennis Schroeder</strong> if McCollum is off the board at No. 14, says Kotoch.</li>
<li>McCollum also intrigues the <strong>Thunder</strong>, who pick 12th, though Oklahoma City has been primarily linked to bigs so far.</li>
<li>The <strong>Knicks</strong> &quot;really like&quot; <strong>Shane Larkin</strong>, according to Kotoch.</li>
