<ul>
<li><strong>Hawks</strong> GM <strong>Danny Ferry</strong> was noncommittal when asked by <a href="http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/atlanta-hawks/2013/jun/18/pre-draft-notes-no-decision-restricted-free-agents/" target="_blank">Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution</a> if the team planned to extend qualifying offers to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/teaguje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jeff Teague</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/johnsiv01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ivan Johnson</a></strong>. I&#39;d be pretty surprised if Teague didn&#39;t receive a qualifying offer, considering he&#39;s unlikely to accept the one-year offer and it could always be rescinded if Atlanta needed to clear cap space.</li>
<li>In addition to <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/dario-saric-to-withdraw-from-draft.html" target="_blank"><strong>Dario Saric</strong></a>, <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/draft-rumors-cavs-celtics-ledo-pelle-zeller.html" target="_blank"><strong>Norvel Pelle</strong></a>, and the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/international-prospects-draft-decisions.html" target="_blank">14 international prospects</a> we identified in yesterday&#39;s post, <strong>Viktor Gaddefors</strong> and <strong>Joshua Simmons</strong> also withdrew from the 2013 draft, the NBA <a href="http://www.nba.com/2013/news/06/18/2013-draft-withdrawals/index.html" target="_blank">announced today</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Warriors</strong> head coach <strong>Mark Jackson</strong> tells Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News (<a href="https://twitter.com/timkawakami/status/347067166107004928" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>) that he and the team haven&#39;t had any recent talks about a contract extension, and he&#39;s fine with that.</li>
<li>Although the <strong>Mavericks</strong> were <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/monta-ellis-to-exercise-eto-become-free-agent.html" target="_blank">recently named</a> as a potential suitor for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ellismo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Monta  Ellis</a></strong>, <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4696348/is-monta-ellis-a-match-for-the-mavs" target="_blank">Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com</a> thinks the veteran guard is &quot;far from a perfect fit&quot; for the Mavs.</li>
<li>The <strong>Bulls</strong> could go in a number of different directions on draft night, but the most likely outcome will see the club drafting a big man, says <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/14410/bulls-have-flexibility-but-big-man-likely" target="_blank">Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com</a>.</li>
<li>They may not have reached a trade agreement with the <strong>Celtics</strong>, but the <strong>Clippers</strong> still figure to be very active this offseason, writes <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/clippers/post/_/id/4655/clippers-are-far-from-done-dealing" target="_blank">Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com</a>.</li>

We&#39;ve got more on the Celtics saga and other news from the East:</p>
<ul>
<li>The <strong>Hawks</strong> hired <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hamda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Darvin Ham</a></strong> as an assistant coach, the team <a href="http://www.nba.com/hawks/news/darvin-ham-returns-hawks-organization-assistant-coach" target="_blank">announced</a>, prompting ESPN&#39;s Chris Broussard to speculate that the move was done in part to appeal to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> (<a href="https://twitter.com/Chris_Broussard/status/345941609562664962" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>). Ham has been an assistant with the <strong>Lakers</strong> the past two years, and worked with Howard this year. The<strong> Bobcats</strong> also had interest in Ham, as Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com notes via <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/status/345965187981012992" target="_blank">Twitter</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Celtics</strong> GM <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aingeda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danny Ainge</a></strong> still believes coach <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/riverdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Doc Rivers</a></strong> will return for next season, according to <a href="http://bostonherald.com/sports/celtics_nba/nba_coverage/2013/06/danny_ainge_awaits_doc_s_big_decision" target="_blank">Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald</a>, who hears from an agent who figures that Rivers won&#39;t coach any team next season.</li>
<li>The <strong>Celtics</strong> will have to rebuild sooner or later, <a href="http://therotation.sportsonearthblog.com/right-time-for-rebuilding/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+UsatodaycomNba-TopStories+%28Sports+-+NBA+-+Top+Stories%29" target="_blank">Shaun Powell of Sports on Earth</a>&#0160;argues. Powell&#0160;says that now appears to best time to do so, and he lays out a plan that involves waiving Pierce, letting Rivers coach the <strong>Clippers</strong>, and dangling Garnett&#0160;in trade offers.</li>

<li><strong>Heat</strong> forward <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boshch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Bosh</a></strong> downplayed the idea that he&#39;s bothered by talk about him being the most expendable of Miami&#39;s &quot;Big Three,&quot; also mentioning that he wouldn&#39;t want to be the lead player on a team with a lesser situation (<a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/sfl-miami-heat-chris-bosh-s061313,0,4551977.story?track=rss" target="_blank">Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel</a> reports).&#0160;</li>
<li>Though Hall of Fame point guard <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/cousybo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Bob Cousy</a></strong> once doubled as a player-coach, don&#39;t expect&#0160;<strong>Nets</strong>&#0160;coach <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kiddja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jason Kidd</a></strong> to follow suit, as he told reporters that he has no intention of ever playing another minute (Marc Berman of the New York Post via <a href="https://twitter.com/NYPost_Berman/status/345337538317279232" target="_blank">Twitter</a>).&#0160;</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?search=Patrick+Ewing&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Patrick Ewing</a></strong>, recently hired as an associate head coach for the <strong>Bobcats</strong>, thinks that it&#39;ll be a tough challenge for Kidd&#0160;to make the transition from being an NBA player directly into becoming a head coach (<a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/45790/ewing-kidd-will-have-tough-transition" target="_blank">Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York</a>).&#0160;</li>
<li>Former <strong>Knicks</strong> and <strong>Nets</strong> forward <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willish03.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Shawne  Williams</a></strong> looked good during a workout today and will audition for several NBA teams soon, <a href="https://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA/status/345334622177095680" target="_blank">tweets</a> Hoopsworld&#39;s Alex Kennedy.&#0160;</li>
<li><a href="http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/nba-draft-cleveland-cavaliers-could-make-ben-mclemore-first-shooting-guard-to-go-no-1-in-nearly-40-years-1.405761?localLinksEnabled=false&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal</a> writes that while the presence of <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/waitedi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dion Waiters</a></strong> on the <strong>Cavaliers</strong> may compound the team&#39;s interest in drafting <strong>Ben McLemore</strong>, the former Syracuse standout could thrive in a reserve role as a primary ball handler in the second unit.&#0160;</li>
<li><a href="http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/pacers-draft-workouts-notebook-june-13-2013" target="_blank">Wheat Hotchkiss of NBA.com</a> reviews today&#39;s draft workout hosted by the&#0160;<strong>Pacers</strong>, which included <strong>Deshaun Thomas</strong>, <strong>Will Clyburn</strong>, <strong>Alex Oriakhi</strong>, <strong>James Southerland</strong>, and <strong>Troy Daniels</strong>. <strong>C.J. Leslie</strong> was present, but did not participate in the workout.&#0160;</li>

Here&#39;s more on the Grizzlies:</p>
<ul>
<li>In addition to Joerger and Pinckney, the Grizzlies have also spoken to <strong>George Karl</strong> and <strong>Alvin Gentry</strong> and intend to have them in for formal interviews, says Berger. The team isn&#39;t interested in <strong>Brian Shaw</strong>.</li>
<li>Memphis is also eyeing new faces for its front office, according to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/06/12/memphis-grizzlies-milton-lee-brooklyn-nets/2416071/" target="_blank">Sam Amick of USA Today</a>, who reports that the club has been granted permission to speak to Nets director of basketball operations <strong>Milton Lee</strong>. The Grizzlies are considering Lee for a senior executive position in the front office, and Amick adds that the decision to interview him is tied to <strong>Chris Wallace</strong>&#39;s uncertain future with the team.</li>
<li>Amick also has some updates on the coaching search, following up on Berger&#39;s report by confirming that Pinckney will meet Thursday with the Grizzlies.</li>
<li>The Grizzlies have not requested permission to speak to <strong>Doc Rivers</strong>, but the club would have &quot;serious interest&quot; if Rivers decided to step down as coach of the Celtics, says Amick. For now, Memphis is monitoring the situation in Boston.</li>

returning to Team USA for the 2016 Olympics as assistant coaches. Today, Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press reveals (<a href="https://twitter.com/briancmahoney/status/344087257709432833" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>) that <strong>Bulls</strong>
coach <strong>Tom Thibodeau</strong> and <strong>Pelicans</strong> coach <strong>Monty  Williams</strong> will be the new
additions to Mike Krzyzewski&#39;s staff. Here are a few more Monday odds and ends from around the NBA:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Timberwolves</strong> president <strong>Flip Saunders</strong> tells <a href="http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/06/09/timberwolves-expect-adelman-to-return/" target="_blank">Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com</a>
 that every indication points to <strong>Rick Adelman</strong> returning as the team&#39;s
head coach next season. Saunders also addresses <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pekovni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nikola Pekovic</a></strong>&#39;s free
agency (&quot;We plan on signing him&quot;) and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kirilan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andrei  Kirilenko</a></strong>&#39;s player option
(&quot;We don&#39;t have a gut feel [what he&#39;ll decide]&quot;) within the piece.</li>
<li><strong>Celtics</strong> head coach <strong>Doc Rivers</strong> has yet to officially state whether he&#39;ll return to Boston&#39;s bench next season, telling <a href="http://www.boston.com/sports/2013/06/09/celtics-coach-doc-rivers-remains-mum-about-coaching-future/X9jGV8rebHbDZMV6tg8ikI/story.html" target="_blank">Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe</a> that he&#39;d address his future soon.</li>
<li>In his <a href="http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/06/08/tracy-mcgrady-his-first-nba-finals-but-bench-player-reflects-his-star-crossed-career/oiyMmOuc12G2hscqP4A11O/story.html?s_campaign=sm_tw" target="_blank">weekend notes column</a> for the Boston Globe, Washburn speculated that the <strong>Bobcats</strong> could be interested in trying to trade for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boshch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Bosh</a></strong> this summer, but <a href="http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2013/06/charlotte-bobcats-acquiring-miami-heats-chris-bosh-would-make-little-sense.html" target="_blank">Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer</a> doesn&#39;t see Bosh as a fit for Charlotte.</li>
<li>Asked about a potential <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/denglu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Luol  Deng</a></strong> trade, Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld <a href="https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/status/343994418635886592" target="_blank">tweets</a> that he has heard the <strong>Bulls</strong>
 don&#39;t intend to change their core significantly this summer. With Deng
and others coming off the books in the summer of 2014, the roster
figures to see more turnover a year from now.</li>
<li>CSKA Moscow assistant <strong>Quin Snyder</strong> has officially left the team to return stateside, the club <a href="http://www.cskabasket.com/news/?id=12619" target="_blank">announced</a> today (English link via <a href="http://www.sportando.net/eng/europe/russia/56848/quin-snyder-officially-leaves-cska-moscow.html" target="_blank">Sportando</a>). Last week, ESPN.com&#39;s Marc Stein <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/nuggets-eyeing-lionel-hollins-brian-shaw.html" target="_blank">named Snyder</a> as a potential under-the-radar candidate for the <strong>Nuggets</strong>&#39; head coaching job, but I think it&#39;s probably more likely that Snyder ends up as an NBA assistant somewhere.</li>
<li>Last June, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millemi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mike Miller</a></strong>&#39;s injury problems had him contemplating the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2012/06/mike-miller-to-decide-on-future-soon.html" target="_blank">possibility of retirement</a>, but he&#39;s certainly feeling better a year later. Miller tells <a href="http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/228077/Mike-Miller-Healthy-To-Extend-NBA-Career" target="_blank">Shams Charania of RealGM.com</a> that he feels like he has four or five seasons left in him.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/playoffs/2013/06/09/coaching-coaches-fired-george-karl-larry-drew-keith-smart-alvin-gentry/2405871/" target="_blank">Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today</a> attempts to determine why there have been so many head coaching changes in the NBA this offseason, while <a href="http://www.nba.com/2013/news/features/david_aldridge/06/10/morning-tip-new-coaches-in-new-places-adjustments-in-playoffs-qa-with-danny-granger/index.html?ls=nbahpsplit3" target="_blank">TNT&#39;s David Aldridge</a> tackles the same topic in his own column at NBA.com. Aldridge also examines new <strong>Hawks</strong> head coach <strong>Mike Budenholzer</strong> and asks <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/grangda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danny Granger</a></strong> about being the subject of frequent trade rumors.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>ESPN.com&#39;s Chad Ford has released <a href="http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2013/story/_/id/9340518/2013-nba-draft-chad-ford-mock-draft-40" target="_blank">version 4.0 of his 2013 mock draft</a> (Insider-only link), and as usual, the piece is chock-full of rumors and rumblings he&#39;s heard from GMs, scouts, and other league sources. Let&#39;s dive in and round up some of the highlights from Ford&#39;s latest....</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Nerlens Noel</strong> remains the default pick at No. 1, but the <strong>Cavaliers</strong> still haven&#39;t made a decision. <strong>Otto Porter</strong> and <strong>Alex Len</strong> would be the best bets to supplant Noel.</li>
<li>The <strong>Magic</strong>&#39;s decision at No. 2 is still extremely wide open, with nine players still under consideration, according to Ford.</li>
<li>If Porter and <strong>Anthony Bennett</strong> are still on the board at No. 3 for Washington, it will be a tough decision, since the <strong>Wizards</strong>&#39; front office is split over which player it likes better.</li>
<li>The <strong>Pelicans</strong> will consider point guards with the sixth overall pick, but the team hasn&#39;t given up on <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/riverau01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Austin Rivers</a></strong> as its point guard of the future, so it may go in a different direction.</li>
<li>Ford is &quot;hearing with increasing frequency&quot; that the <strong>Pistons</strong> could target a point guard with the No. 8 pick.</li>
<li><strong>Dario Saric</strong> appears to be a lottery pick, with Ford identifying the <strong>Blazers</strong> at 10 and the <strong>Sixers</strong> at 11 as real possibilities for the Croatian prospect, who is a &quot;hot name&quot; right now.</li>
<li><strong>Shane Larkin</strong>&#39;s workout in Milwaukee was a &quot;wow&quot; for the <strong>Bucks</strong>, according to Ford, who has the point guard going at No. 15 to Milwaukee.</li>
</ul>
<p>In addition to Ford&#39;s latest mock, there are plenty of other draft updates to pass along this afternoon. Here are a few of them:</p>
<ul>
<li>Speaking to <a href="http://journaltimes.com/sports/basketball/bucks-beat-schr-der-has-eyes-on-first-round/article_2793aa84-ccd3-11e2-af77-001a4bcf887a.html" target="_blank">Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times</a>, <strong>Dennis Schroeder</strong> and his agent downplayed reports that he has received a first-round guarantee from an unknown team, <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/celtics-rumors-schroeder-kg-millsap-rivers.html" target="_blank">perhaps the Celtics</a>. <em>&quot;I don’t know where that came from,&quot;</em> agent Alex Saratsis said. <em>&quot;I don’t know anything about that.&quot;</em></li>
<li>The <strong>Knicks</strong>&#39; workout on Wednesday will feature the following prospects, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday (<a href="https://twitter.com/Al_Iannazzone/status/341949585729675265" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>): <strong>Isaiah Canaan</strong>, <strong>Brandon Triche</strong>, <strong>Deshaun Thomas</strong>, <strong>Murphy Holloway</strong>, <strong>A.J. Matthews</strong>, and <strong>Norvel Pelle</strong>.</li>
<li>The <strong>Pistons</strong> will bring in <strong>Ray McCallum</strong> for a workout, <a href="https://twitter.com/Vincent_Ellis56/status/341895701116108800" target="_blank">tweets</a> Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.</li>
<li>After recently working out for the <strong>Jazz</strong>, <strong>Cody Zeller</strong> will work out for the <strong>Suns</strong> next, <a href="https://twitter.com/SamAmicoFSO/status/341930217356533761" target="_blank">tweets</a> Sam Amico of FOX Sports Ohio. Amico adds in <a href="https://twitter.com/SamAmicoFSO/status/341930046321225729" target="_blank">another tweet</a> that <strong>Mark Lyons</strong>, who averaged 24.3 PPG in three NCAA tournament contests in March, is working out for the <strong>Nuggets</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>Ricky Ledo</strong> has already worked out for six teams, including the <strong>Nuggets</strong>, <strong>Bulls</strong>, <strong>Rockets</strong>, and <strong>Spurs</strong> (<a href="http://www.nba.com/2013/news/06/04/ledo-draft-sixth-team.ap/index.html" target="_blank">link via NBA.com</a>).</li>
<li>Ledo will work out for his seventh team on Wednesday, when the <strong>Grizzlies</strong> hold a session that will also include<strong> <em>
</em>Jud Dillard</strong>, <strong>Carrick Felix</strong>, <strong>Solomon Hill</strong>, <strong>Angelo Sharpless</strong>, and <strong>Tony Snell</strong>, according to a team release.</li>

<content type="xhtml" xml:lang="en-US" xml:base="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/">
<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinna01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nate Robinson</a></strong> never looked more valuable than he did this spring, when Chicago&#39;s third-string point guard took over the starting role and lifted the team to a Game Seven win on the road in Brooklyn. Robinson and the Bulls followed that up with a strong challenge of the Heat in the conference semifinals. His trademark inconsistency still surfaced, as witnessed by his performance in a pair of Game Fours. In the fourth game against the Nets, he scored 34 points, but he went scoreless on 12 field goal attempts in the fourth game versus the Heat. Yet the &quot;Good Nate&quot; mostly outweighed the &quot;Bad Nate&quot; during the playoffs, especially as he showed an ability to fit in with coach <strong>Tom Thibodeau</strong>&#39;s defense. That should be enough to merit a healthy raise on his minimum-salary deal, and that means he&#39;ll probably be out of Chicago&#39;s price range.</p>
<p>Robinson was a break-even player during the regular season, as the Bulls scored just about as many points with him on the floor as they gave up. That&#39;s what many teams look for out of their backups, so Robinson has probably earned a shot in a team&#39;s rotation next season, a job that normally warrants more than the minimum salary. Robinson appeared in every one of the Bulls&#39; regular season and playoff games this year, and shot 40.5% from behind the arc, the first time he&#39;s eclipsed a 40% rate of success on three-point attempts. He embraced a playmaking role, as he did in Golden State last year, posting a respectable 4.4/1.8 per-game assists-to-turnover ratio with the Bulls. His strides on defense, where he became less of a liability, and his ability to accept Thibodeau&#39;s hard-charging coaching style, were even more impressive.</p>
<p>The Bulls have Robinson&#39;s <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/non-bird-rights.html" target="_blank">Non-Bird</a> rights, so unless they dip into their mid-level exception, the most they can pay him next season is $1,519,172, an amount equal to 120% of the minimum salary for a player with eight years of experience. Chicago is in line to pay the tax again next season, so the team&#39;s only method of signing other teams&#39; free agents for more than the minimum will likely be the&#0160;$3.183MM taxpayer&#39;s mid-level exception. Robinson&#39;s market value is probably right around that amount, so using the mid-level on him wouldn&#39;t allow Chicago to upgrade elsewhere. <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rosede01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Derrick Rose</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hinriki01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kirk Hinrich</a></strong> will presumably be back to man the point guard position, and the team probably wants to give <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/teaguma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Marquis Teague</a></strong>, its first-rounder from 2012, a longer look next season. That doesn&#39;t leave much room for Robinson.</p>
<p>Robinson&#39;s agent, Aaron Goodwin, says his client&#39;s first priority is to re-sign with the Bulls, but he&#39;d be <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/06/atlantic-rumors-robinson-pierce-bargnani.html" target="_blank">open to hearing from</a> the Knicks as well. The Knicks might like to inject a boost of athleticism into their point guard ranks, but they&#39;re under the same salary crunch as the Bulls. New York&#39;s bloated payroll would make the mid-level exception the team&#39;s only mechanism for signing Robinson, and the Knicks may have to use it to keep some of their own free agents. A sign-and-trade is out, since taxpaying teams can&#39;t acquire players in a sign-and-trade under new collective barganing agreement&#0160;restrictions this summer.</p>
<p>The taxpayer&#39;s mid-level amount is probably a fit for Robinson, but he&#39;s most likely to end up on a team with fewer financial headaches than the Knicks. He could also work on a club that can use part of its standard $5.15MM mid-level on him. He showed his value to contenders this past season, and winning teams probably won&#39;t shy away from him as much as they did when he was a forgotten man in 2010/11 with the Thunder, who waived him on the eve of the following season. He&#39;s still a spark plug offensively, capable of the spectacular, and after this year, a team&#39;s primary worry would be his off-nights on that end, as opposed to his defense. I expect a contending team with plenty of other offensive weapons that can offset his shortcomings to bring Robinson aboard.</p></div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinna01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nate Robinson</a></strong>&#39;s first priority will be to re-sign with the <strong>Bulls</strong>, though he wouldn&#39;t mind another stint with the <strong>Knicks</strong>, agent Aaron Goodwin tells <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/45271/nate-would-welcome-return-to-knicks" target="_blank">Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com</a>. Both Chicago and New York are taxpaying teams, so it&#39;ll be difficult for either to fit in Robinson, who&#39;ll likely command more than the minimum salary he made this year. Goodwin&#39;s statement is a familiar one for agents this time of year, as Grantland&#39;s Zach Lowe points out via <a href="https://twitter.com/ZachLowe_NBA/status/340898906567213057" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, so there&#39;s no reason to count Robinson as either a Bull or a Knick just yet. Here&#39;s more from the Atlantic:&#0160;</p>
<ul>
<li>Teams around the league have a &quot;healthy interest&quot; in <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/piercpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Paul  Pierce</a></strong>, but the <strong>Celtics</strong> aren&#39;t about to just give him away, according to&#0160;<a href="http://bostonherald.com/sports/celtics_nba/boston_celtics/2013/05/waiting_game_continues_for_cs?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+bostonherald%2Fsports%2Fbasketball%2Fceltics+%28Boston+Celtics+-+Celtics+%26+NBA+-+BostonHerald.com%29" target="_blank">Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald</a>. Even if the C&#39;s can find the right deal and start over with younger players, the money tied up in <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bassbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Brandon  Bass</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/leeco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Courtney  Lee</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/terryja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jason  Terry</a></strong>&#0160;would be a major obstacle to a rebuild, a general manager tells Bulpett.</li>
<li>The <strong>Raptors</strong> will reportedly be aggressive in their attempts to trade <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bargnan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andrea Bargnani</a></strong>, and one possible destination could be Golden State, since, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun, the <strong>Warriors</strong> have long been intrigued by him (<a href="https://twitter.com/WolstatSun/status/340897860629446656" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).&#0160;</li>
<li><a href="http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/05/31/five-major-issues-for-new-raptors-gm-masai-ujiri-to-address/" target="_blank">Eric Koreen of the National Post</a> outlines the five most important items on the to-do list for new <strong>Raptors</strong> GM <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong>, figuring that an amnesty of Bargnani is most likely the club&#39;s next step with the former No. 1 overall pick.</li>
<li>Center<strong>&#0160;A.J. Matthews</strong>&#0160;played his college ball at Division III Farmingdale State and didn&#39;t receive an invitation to the league&#39;s pre-draft combine in Chicago, but he wowed teams at recent <strong>Nets</strong>-hosted combine. The <strong>Knicks</strong> are one of about a half dozen teams bringing the Arn Tellem client in for workouts, reports&#0160;<a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/source_klyn_matthews_to_work_out_mifHR07uIGZGQdNt3phPnN?utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_content=Knicks" target="_blank">Marc Berman of the New York Post</a>.</li>
<li>The<strong>&#0160;Knicks</strong>&#0160;are zeroing in on point guards with the 24th overall pick, and though they don&#39;t have a second-rounder, Berman expects them to acquire one via trade in return for cash.</li>
<li><a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/45259/paul-to-knicks-is-highly-unlikely" target="_blank">Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com</a> explains the reasons why <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris  Paul</a></strong> signing with the Knicks is but a pipe-dream for New York fans.</li>

For now, the team is concentrating on targets for its pair of second-round pick, and Lee lists more than a dozen such players scheduled for workouts with the team next week. &#0160;The Wizards&#39; pick may very well come down to a decision between who is left over between Porter and <strong>Nerlens Noel</strong>, but they&#39;ll leave no stone unturned when it comes to their top pick. &#0160;Here&#39;s more draft news..</p>
<ul>
<li>Former Miami point guard <strong>Shane Larkin</strong> won’t work out for the <strong>Knicks</strong>, his agent told <a href="http://zagsblog.com/articles/shane-larkin-wont-work-out-for-knicks/" target="_blank">Adam Zagoria of SNY</a>. &#0160; “<em>Currently, Shane’s not scheduled to work out for the Knicks,</em>” agent Steve McCaskill said. “<em>And we don’t have any intentions of scheduling one. We don’t feel like he’s going to be on the board when they select.</em>” &#0160;The Knicks have the No. 24 pick in the draft and while some view Larkin as a mid-round talent, it&#39;s worth noting that DraftExpress currently has him going at No. 23 to the <strong>Pacers</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>Tim Hardaway Jr. </strong>auditioned for the <strong>Bucks </strong>and told reporters, including <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/209696321.html" target="_blank">Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel</a>, that he has already worked out for the <strong>Bulls </strong>and<strong>&#0160;T&#39;Wolves</strong>. &#0160;The Michigan product is widely viewed as a fringe first-round talent.</li>
<li>Murray State&#39;s <strong>Isaiah Canaan</strong>&#0160;says he has already worked out for the <strong>Spurs</strong> and he has more workouts scheduled with the <strong>Pacers</strong>, <strong>Knicks</strong>, <strong>Cavs</strong>, <strong>Suns</strong>, <strong>Mavs</strong>, and <strong>Jazz</strong>, Gardner <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/209696321.html" target="_blank">writes</a>. &#0160;Canaan, who auditioned for the <strong>Bucks</strong>,&#0160;could be a candidate for the club&#39;s No. 43 selection.</li>
<li>Former Creighton and Rutgers big man <strong>Gregory Echenique</strong> will work out for the <strong>Wizards</strong>, <strong>Suns</strong>, and <strong>Nets</strong> in the coming weeks, Zagoria <a href="http://zagsblog.com/nba-draft/echenique-to-work-out-for-nets/" target="_blank">writes</a>.&#0160;The 6-foot-9, 260-pound center has already worked out for the <strong>Celtics</strong>, <strong>Timberwolves</strong>, and <strong>Trail Blazers</strong>. &#0160;At this time, Echenique figures to be a second round pick at best.</li>

<li>Sam Amick of USA Today follows up on his earlier report (linked below), <a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/339751213501394944" target="_blank">tweeting</a> that the reason the <strong>Kings</strong> may move quickly to hire Malone is a fear he&#39;ll be gone if they wait. Malone is expected to interview with the Clippers soon, according to Amick (<a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/339751579114676226" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>). Amick adds that the Kings have yet to contact Chris Mullin about the team&#39;s GM position.</li>
</ul>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Earlier updates:</strong></span></p>
<ul>
<li>The <strong>Pistons</strong> have interviewed <strong>Bulls</strong> assistant <strong>Adrian Griffin</strong> for their head coaching opening, reports <a href="http://www.csnnw.com/article/source-pistons-interview-bulls-assistant-adrian-griffin-0" target="_blank">CSNNW.com&#39;s Chris Haynes</a>. While <strong>Nate McMillan</strong> and <strong>Maurice Cheeks</strong> are viewed as the favorites in Detroit, Griffin&#39;s extensive phone interview with GM <strong>Joe Dumars</strong> was &quot;impressive,&quot; a source tells Haynes. The Bulls assistant also interviewed for the <strong>Suns</strong> job before Phoenix hired <strong>Jeff Hornacek</strong>.</li>
<li>Although the <strong>Nets</strong> are among the teams hoping to speak to <strong>Lionel Hollins</strong>, the <strong>Grizzlies</strong> coach told reporters, including <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/nets/nets_may_have_to_wait_on_hollins_AvIxeCtZb906f6inDtnYHO" target="_blank">Tim Bontemps of the New York Post</a>, that he&#39;s not sure Memphis will grant rival suitors permission to talk to him before his contract expires on June 30th.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2013/05/28/warriors-assistant-coach-michael-malone-headed-to-sacramento/" target="_blank">Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group</a> backs up Peter Vecsey&#39;s <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/nba-approves-kings-sale-to-sacramento-group.html" target="_blank">report</a> that <strong>Michael Malone</strong> appears likely to be hired as the <strong>Kings</strong>&#39; next head coach. <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/05/29/sacramento-kings-general-manager-coach/2368429/" target="_blank">Sam Amick of USA Today</a> is hearing the same thing, noting that the team could bring Malone aboard before hiring a general manager, which would be an unorthodox approach.</li>
<li>Amick also passes along an update on the <strong>Kings</strong>&#39; search for a new head of basketball operations, reporting that the team has interviewed <strong>Warriors</strong> assistant GM <strong>Travis Schlenk</strong> and will likely interview <strong>Grizzlies</strong> GM <strong>Chris Wallace</strong> later this week. The <strong>Thunder</strong> denied Sacramento permission to speak to OKC&#39;s assistant GM <strong>Troy Weaver</strong>, while <strong>Spurs</strong> GM <strong>R.C. Buford</strong> isn&#39;t expected to have interest in the Kings job, according to Amick.</li>
<li>The <strong>76ers</strong> continue to move slowly in their coaching search, and have yet to formally interview a candidate for the job, says <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sixers/20130529_76ers__coaching_search_going_slowly.html" target="_blank">John N. Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquirer</a>.</li>

<ul>
<li>Ethan J. Skolnick the Sun-Sentinel says that just because nothing has happened tonight and may not, that doesn&#39;t mean the NBA won&#39;t take action tomorrow against <strong>Wade</strong> for the seemingly inadvertant elbow to <strong>Stephenson</strong>&#39;s head (<a href="http://twitter.com/#!/EthanJSkolnick/status/338447961765838848" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).</li>
<li>Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports Florida says that because today is a travel day for the <strong>Pacers</strong> and <strong>Heat</strong> that might be the cause for the delay in announcements after the NBA&#39;s review of the play. (<a href="https://twitter.com/christomasson/status/338444626711179265" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>).</li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14px;">Sports Illustrated columnist, Ian Thomsen,&#0160;</span><a href="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nba/news/20130525/miami-heat-indiana-pacers-game-3-preview/index.html" style="font-size: 14px;" target="_blank">discusses the similarities</a><span style="font-size: 14px;">&#0160;between this season&#39;s Eastern Conference Final and last season&#39;s Eastern Conference Semifinal. Last year the&#0160;</span><strong style="font-size: 14px;">Heat</strong><span style="font-size: 14px;">&#0160;lost game 2 and home court advantage too, plus they lost game 3 in Indiana to go down 2-1 to the&#0160;</span><strong style="font-size: 14px;">Pacers</strong>. They then rebounded to win three-straight&#0160;to head to the Finals.</li>
</ul>
<span style="font-size: 14px;">Here are some more notes from around the Eastern Conference..</span><span style="font-size: 14px;">

<ul style="font-size: 14px;">
<li><span style="font-size: 14px;">The <strong>Bulls</strong>&#39; winning percentage when <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boozeca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carlos  Boozer</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/denglu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Luol  Deng</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/noahjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Joakim  Noah</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rosede01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Derrick  Rose</a></strong> share the floor is 86% <a href="http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/20343353-579/bulls-need-a-fantastic-four-with-forwards-deng-boozer-likely-to-stay.html" target="_blank">writes Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times</a>. That&#39;s probably why the <strong>Bulls</strong>&#39; general manager Gar Forman will keep <strong>Boozer</strong> and <strong>Deng</strong>&#0160;this offseason.&#0160;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14px;">Former <strong>Bulls</strong> coach, and man-about-town for open GM and coaching positions, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jacksph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Phil Jackson</a></strong>,&#0160;<a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/ct-spt-0526-bulls-chicago-20130526,0,4940372.story/" target="_blank">discussed his new book and his future</a> with the Chicago Tribune&#39;s K.C. <li><span style="font-size: 14px;">The <strong>Magic</strong> are a young team looking to rebuild through the draft with smart moves by their young general manager&#0160;<strong>Rob Hennigan</strong>. Zwerling discusses who the <strong>Knicks</strong> might select with the 24th pick in July&#39;s draft and which players they may target in free agency, or through the draft, who could fulfill their need for a fast and explosive backup point guard for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/feltora01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Raymond Felton</a></strong>.&#0160;</span></li>

<p>Considering&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rosede01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Derrick Rose</a></strong>&#0160;never played a single game, the season went about as well as could be expected for the Bulls. Even if Rose had made it back from his injury, Chicago may not have done better than winning a playoff series and putting a scare in the Heat, considering the turnover they suffered on the bench coming into 2012/13. Coach<strong>&#0160;Tom Thibodeau</strong>&#0160;deserves credit for developing an overachieving supporting cast, many of whom wound up starting and playing prominent roles in the playoffs while&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/denglu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Luol Deng</a></strong>&#0160;and&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hinriki01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kirk Hinrich</a></strong>&#0160;joined Rose on the bench with injuries.</p>
<p>Presumably, Rose will return healthy for the start of next season, and the central question for&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paxsojo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">John Paxson</a></strong>, the team&#39;s executive VP of basketball operations, and GM <strong>Gar Forman</strong> is whether that&#39;s enough to give Chicago a shot at the championship. The Bulls entered the playoffs as the top seed the last two seasons in which Rose played, but they&#39;ve won a total of just two playoff series with Rose in uniform. Part of the reason that&#39;s the case is the team&#39;s inability to get past the Heat, and that obstacle could be gone after next season, when&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jamesle01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">LeBron James</a></strong>,&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wadedw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwyane Wade</a></strong>&#0160;and&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boshch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Bosh</a></strong>&#0160;can all opt out of their contracts. They could also all choose to stay with the Heat, or one or more of them could go elsewhere and form another superteam that erects another barrier for the Bulls.</p>
<p>LeBron and company passed on Chicago in the summer of 2010, and there&#39;s no pressing reason to suspect they wouldn&#39;t do so again, making the specter of a superteam in Chicago far-fetched. In 2010, the Bulls instead went with&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boozeca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carlos Boozer</a></strong>, who has drawn criticism ever since. Boozer has never been the most consistent of producers, and some of his numbers suggest this season was another dip on his personal rollercoaster. He recorded career lows in shooting percentage (.477) and PER (17.1), even as his scoring and rebounding went up from last year. His numbers held steady in the playoffs, unlike his first two postseason runs with the Bulls, and that may be enough to spare him from becoming an amnesty victim.</p>
<p>The Bulls owe him $32.1MM over the next two seasons, making him the highest paid player on their roster aside from Rose. His presence as a playoff force will be critical to the team&#39;s ability to get past Miami or other elite teams, and if Paxson, Forman and company feel they can&#39;t get that sort of performance from him, there&#39;s little reason to keep him around. His amnesty represents the easiest way for the Bulls to avoid paying the tax next season after having done so for the first time in franchise history this year.&#0160;</p>
<p>Still, if the Bulls are confident Boozer can produce in the postseason, they&#39;re probably better off keeping him, since amnestying him wouldn&#39;t create enough cap room to replace him with a player who&#39;s likely to do any better. The Bulls reportedly reached out to the&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/carlos-boozer-offer-on-table-for-raptors.html" target="_blank">Raptors</a>&#0160;and others&#0160;about trading Boozer before the deadline this past season, but&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/bulls-to-keep-carlos-boozer.html" target="_blank">found no takers</a>. A trade could be the most viable option the team has of either upgrading its roster, avoiding the tax, or both.</p>
<p>Writers have batted around a&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/odds-ends-nbpa-james-datome-love.html" target="_blank">trade idea</a>&#0160;that would send&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/loveke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kevin Love</a></strong>&#0160;to the Bulls in exchange for Boozer,&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/butleji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jimmy Butler</a></strong>, former first-round pick <strong>Nikola Mirotic</strong> and a future first-round pick that the Bobcats owe Chicago. That one seems a non-starter now that new Wolves exec <strong>Flip Saunders</strong> has worked to strengthen the team&#39;s relationship with Love, and it doesn&#39;t sound like a proposal the teams ever considered anyway.</p>
<p>The Bulls played well in the postseason without Deng, leading to speculation that he could be the centerpiece of a deal this summer. The Cavaliers and Pistons have apparently&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/eastern-rumors-deng-hollins-bucks-raptors.html" target="_blank">expressed interest</a>&#0160;in Deng already, but it&#39;s unclear what it would take to get a deal done. The Bulls would probably want to reduce their payroll, and both Cleveland and Detroit will have the cap room to facilitate an uneven exchange of salaries. I&#39;d be surprised if Chicago gave up Butler, who emerged as a force on the perimeter this season and has two more years left on his rookie deal. Mirotic is another young, cheap asset, even if it&#39;s&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/eastern-rumors-prigioni-mirotic-nets-sixers.html" target="_blank">unclear</a>&#0160;when he&#39;ll make the move to the NBA.</p>
<p>Butler&#39;s emergence helps make parting ways with&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hamilri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Richard Hamilton</a></strong>&#0160;an easy choice. The Bulls are&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/bulls-expected-to-buy-out-richard-hamilton.html" target="_blank">expected</a>&#0160;to waive the 35-year-old former All-Star by July 10th, allowing them to save $4MM on his cap hit for next season. Injuries held Hamilton back from becoming the reliable starting two-guard the team signed him to be, but even when he was healthy and the Bulls were in need of help in the postseason, Thibodeau rarely called on him.</p>
<p>With Rose and Hamilton out of the picture and Butler pressed into duty at small forward in place of Deng, the Bulls rode with&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinna01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nate Robinson</a></strong>&#0160;and&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/belinma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Marco Belinelli</a></strong>&#0160;as their starting backcourt in the playoffs. Both exceeded expectations, particularly Robinson, who was a minimum-salary signee. The Bulls have&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/non-bird-rights.html" target="_blank">Non-Bird rights</a>&#0160;on both, allowing them to go no more than 120% over their salaries from this past season to re-sign them, unless Chicago dips into its mid-level exception. As a team in line to pay the tax, the Bulls will only have the $3.183 taxpayer&#39;s mid-level, which might be enough for one of them, but not both. Chicago has Non-Bird rights on backup center&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mohamna01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nazr Mohammed</a></strong>, too, but he&#39;s unlikely to return unless he agrees to another minimum-salary deal.</p>
<p>The Bulls would have to make a drastic move to significantly improve their roster this summer. Forman identified a return to health as the team&#39;s&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/central-notes-bulls-robinson-cavs-handy.html" target="_blank">primary offseason goal</a>, and the return of Rose should vault the Bulls into some level of title contention. If they keep the core of the team together, they won&#39;t enter next season as favorites, but they&#39;ll probably have a chance. Unless they get a trade offer they can&#39;t bear to turn down, the Bulls seem like they&#39;ll give this group one more try and gauge a changing NBA landscape next summer.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Cap footnotes</strong></span></p>
<ol>
<li><em>Hamilton&#39;s contract becomes fully guaranteed if he&#39;s not waived on or before July 10th.</em></li>
<li><em>Thomas&#39; contract becomes guaranteed for $250,000 if he&#39;s not waived on or before July 24th, and for $500,000 if he&#39;s not waived on or before December 9th.</em></li>
<li><em>The cap hold for Mirotic, the 23rd pick in the 2011 draft, is equal to 100% of the rookie scale amount for the 23rd pick in this year&#39;s draft.&#0160;</em></li>
<li><em>No, Scalabrine isn&#39;t on the Bulls&#39; payroll, and he wasn&#39;t last season, either. He&#39;s still listed as a cap hold because Chicago has yet to renounce his rights after he played on a minimum-salary deal in 2011/12. The Bulls were over the cap last summer, and it&#39;s likely they&#39;ll remain so this offseason. Unless they intend to dip below the cap line and use their space, there will be no reason to renounce their rights to Scalabrine, or any of their free agents who go unsigned this summer.</em></li>
</ol>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The Eastern Conference Finals resume tonight after a stirring overtime contest in Game One. The <strong>Pacers</strong> will have to find a way to come up with a win in Miami after squandering a chance in the opener. If they don&#39;t, it will soon be open season for teams going after Indiana GM <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pritcke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kevin Pritchard</a></strong> and assistant coach <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/shawbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Brian Shaw</a></strong>. While we wait to see how the postseason turns out, here&#39;s the latest on what will happen for a few Eastern teams and players in the future:</p>
<ul>
<li>In an interview with&#0160;<a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/44998/prigioni-eyes-return-but-open-to-options" target="_blank">Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com</a>,&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/prigipa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Pablo Prigioni</a></strong> expounds on his&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/pablo-prigioni-could-return-to-spain.html" target="_blank">desire to return</a>&#0160;to the <strong>Knicks</strong> while acknowledging that there could be other options for him this summer. The point guard&#0160;hints that his wife&#39;s desire to return to Europe wasn&#39;t as much of a factor in his decision as had been reported.&#0160;<em>&quot;The most important things for me to decide where I want to play is I feel that I can play and help the team, to feel that the team really wants me,&quot;</em>&#0160;Prigioni said.&#0160;<em>&quot;On this professional level, the place where you go is always nice, and the people always take care of you and your family.&quot;&#0160;</em></li>
<li><a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/14254/forman-faces-a-20-million-question" target="_blank">Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com</a>&#0160;looks to the summer ahead for the <strong>Bulls</strong>, as well as what could be a key negotiation in 2014 with former first-round pick <strong>Nikola Mirotic</strong>. The power forward from Montenegro appears to have the most leverage, Friedell writes, making it uncertain whether the Bulls will be able to sign him anytime soon.</li>
<li>While the <strong>Nets&#0160;</strong><a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/steins-latest-clippers-david-west-ujiri-nets.html" target="_blank">appear to have interest</a>&#0160;in<strong> Grizzlies</strong> coach <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hollili01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Lionel  Hollins</a></strong>, they have yet to ask Memphis for permission to speak with him, USA Today&#39;s Sam Amick reports via&#0160;<a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/338078855556382720" target="_blank">Twitter</a>.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sixers/20130525_Predicting_the_NBA_draft.html" target="_blank">Tyler Tynes of the Philadelphia Inquirer</a>&#0160;tries his hand at a mock draft, predicting that the<strong> Sixers</strong> will come away with <strong>Cody Zeller</strong> at No. 11. Tynes adds that he wouldn&#39;t be surprised to see the team trade down instead.&#0160;</li>

According to popular thought around the league, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/shawbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Brian Shaw</a></strong> would be Jackson&#39;s first choice, and while some insist that Dumars is still in charge as the general manager, Broussard suggests that their next coaching hire will be a strong indicator of how much control the Pistons legend still has of the franchise. Here are more notes out of the Eastern Conference tonight:&#0160;</p>
<ul>
<li>Jackson - a member of two championship <strong>Knicks</strong> teams as a player - spoke with <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/24/sports/basketball/teams-need-help-but-phil-jackson-stays-on-the-perimeter.html?ref=sports&amp;_r=2&amp;" target="_blank">Harvey Araton of the New York Times</a> about the current makeup of his former team and how he compares them with their cross-town rival <strong>Nets</strong>: <em>&quot;(The Knicks)&#0160;still have to find some accommodating group of guys that know how to play ball together, move the ball, play the game the right way...With Brooklyn, if you’ve got a point guard and a solid center, or a good point guard and a great center, you’ve got two of the pieces that you want to have toward a champion.”</em></li>
<li>According to an&#0160;<a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/netsblog/realistic_nets_goals_totally_winning_hRqf0vSDhmq5IO0IeBTetL?utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_content=%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20Nets%20Blog#axzz2UAHmcbVc" target="_blank">NY Post report</a>&#0160;(via the Associated Press), former Nets coach&#0160;<strong>P.J. Carlesimo</strong>&#0160;is interested in remaining as an ESPN analyst just through the postseason and would consider a coaching opportunity if it presented itself afterward.&#0160;</li>
<li><strong>Celtics</strong> big man <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/sullija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jared  Sullinger</a></strong> tells <a href="http://greenstreet.weei.com/sports/boston/basketball/celtics/2013/05/23/jared-sullinger-ill-be-100-percent-by-september/" target="_blank">Ben Rohrbach of WEEI.com</a> that he should be 100% healthy by September or October.&#0160;</li>
