<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong>12:14pm:</strong> Raptors officials are meeting with Ujiri in Colorado today, according to Wojnarowski, who says (<a href="https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/337979656550612992" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>) things are &quot;moving fast&quot; now.</p>
<p><strong>11:22am:</strong> The Nuggets have granted the Raptors permission to speak to NBA Executive of the Year <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong>, and a meeting between Ujiri and the Raptors is expected to take place within the next 24 hours, reports <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nuggets-gm-masai-ujiri-to-meet-with-raptors-about-taking-over-toronto-s-front-office-160104856.html" target="_blank">Adrian Wojnarwoski of Yahoo! Sports</a>. Ujiri is reportedly the preferred candidate for Toronto as the team searches for a head of basketball operations.</p>
<p>According to Wojnarowski, the Raptors intend to make Ujiri an offer that would pay him nearly $3MM annually. Ujiri, whose contract expires next month, is prepared to leave Denver for the chance to run the Raptors unless the Nuggets respond with a competitive offer. As Wojnarowski notes, the Nuggets have historically been reluctant to pay big money to general managers, so there&#39;s a belief they won&#39;t match the commitment the Raptors are prepared to make to Ujiri.</p>
<p>If Ujiri and the Raptors don&#39;t reach an agreement, Toronto&#39;s next target may be Pacers GM <strong>Kevin Pritchard</strong>, who was <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/decision-on-bryan-colangelo-due-by-monday.html" target="_blank">previously cited</a> as a candidate by the Toronto Star&#39;s Doug Smith. <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/ken-berger/22295471/sources-raptors-pursuing-pacers-gm-kevin-pritchard" target="_blank">Ken Berger of CBSSports.com</a> reports that the Raptors have requested permission to speak to Pritchard, though the Pacers prefer to wait until the playoffs to allow a meeting.</p>
<p>According to Berger, <strong>Tim Leiweke</strong> and the Raptors are intrigued by the possibility of pairing Pritchard with Thunder assistant GM <strong>Troy Weaver</strong>. However, the Thunder may not allow Weaver to interview for what would be a lateral move, and it still appears Ujiri is the Raptors&#39; first priority anyway.</p>
<p>Former Raptors president and general manager <strong>Bryan Colangelo</strong> <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/colangelo-to-take-new-role-with-raptors.html" target="_blank">remains in the organization</a> as team president, but won&#39;t be as involved in basketball decisions. Whoever the Raptors hire as their new GM will have full control over the club&#39;s basketball operations.</p></div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/58474/los-angeles-clippers-eyeing-david-west" target="_blank">ESPN.com&#39;s Marc Stein</a> passes along a few notable tidbits in his latest piece for TrueHoop, including word of a potential Clippers target, a <strong>Phil Jackson</strong> update, and some items on the coaching front. Let&#39;s dive in and check out the highlights....</p>
<ul>
<li>&quot;Whispers are already swirling&quot; that the <strong>Clippers</strong> intend to make a hard run at free-agent-to-be <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/westda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">David West</a></strong>, says Stein. West and the <strong>Pacers</strong> seem to be mutually interested in a reunion, and Indiana will have the ability to offer West much more than the Clippers could, barring a sign-and-trade. But Stein points out that if West&#39;s old teammate <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Paul</a></strong> re-signs in Los Angeles, the Pacers forward figures to be interested in at least listening to a Clippers pitch.</li>
<li>The <strong>Nuggets</strong> remain confident that they&#39;ll be able to hang on to <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong>, despite rumblings that the <strong>Raptors</strong> may offer him an annual salary of $2MM+. Ujiri had reportedly been making about $500K with the Nuggets, according to Stein, so he appears in line for a raise no matter which team he ends up running.</li>
<li>According to Stein, some league observers &quot;remain convinced&quot; that <strong>Phil Jackson</strong>&#39;s flirtations with various teams are designed to convinced <strong>Jim Buss</strong> to cede his organizational power with the <strong>Lakers</strong> to <strong>Jeanie Buss</strong>, which could allow Jeanie to bring Jackson aboard to run the team&#39;s basketball operations.</li>
<li>Part of the reason the <strong>Nets</strong>&#39; coaching search has been moving slowly so far is that two of the team&#39;s top potential targets remain active in the playoffs -- <strong>Grizzlies</strong> head coach <strong>Lionel Hollins</strong> and <strong>Pacers</strong> assistant <strong>Brian Shaw</strong>. Stein adds that <strong>Ettore Messina</strong>, who is <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/hawks-interview-van-gundy-considering-messina.html" target="_blank">rumored to be</a> a candidate for the <strong>Hawks</strong>, isn&#39;t on the Nets&#39; list.</li>
<li>While the <strong>Nets</strong> and perhaps the <strong>Clippers</strong> appear to have interest in Hollins, the <strong>Grizzlies</strong> appear determined to lock him up to a new contract once their season ends, says Stein.</li>

The Journal Times scribe also touches on offseason rumblings from around the league, and we&#39;ll round up the highlights here:</p>
<ul>
<li>Woelfel hears the <strong>Nets</strong> are &quot;honing in on <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hollili01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Lionel Hollins</a></strong>&quot; for their coaching vacancy. That would appear to be an exercise in futility, since Hollins says there&#39;s <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/lionel-hollins-grizzlies-say-they-want-me-back.html" target="_blank">mutual interest</a> in his return to the <strong>Grizzlies</strong>, the team he&#39;s guided to the Western Conference Finals. Woelfel also mentions <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/skilesc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Scott Skiles</a></strong> as a candidate, echoing a <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/odds-ends-nets-cs-bennett-pacers-mavs.html" target="_blank">report</a> by Sam Amick of USA Today earlier this month.</li>
<li>Soon-to-be free agent <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?search=Mike+Dunleavy&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mike Dunleavy</a></strong> has piqued the interest of several teams around the league. I examined Dunleavy&#39;s <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/free-agent-stock-watch-mike-dunleavy.html" target="_blank">free agent stock</a> last month, figuring he could fit in as a role player with a title contender.</li>
<li>Woelfel passes along a few draft rumors, noting that <strong>Kelly Olynyk</strong> and <strong>Michael Carter-Williams</strong> will work out for the <strong>Bucks</strong>, while the <strong>Magic, Nets</strong> and <strong>Knicks</strong> have shown interest in <strong>Phil Pressey</strong>. The <strong>Nuggets</strong> interviewed <strong>Otto Porter</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>Bucks</strong> interim coach<strong> Jim Boylan</strong> is gone, but his assistant coaches remain. Their contracts are up at the end of June, along with a couple members of the team&#39;s front office staff, but it remains to be seen whether any of them will return.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>As deadline day for <strong>Bryan Colangelo</strong>&#39;s 2013/14 option approaches, the Raptors are pursuing current Nuggets GM <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong> to take over their basketball operations, reports <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--raptors-targeting-nuggets-gm-masai-ujiri-to-run-organization-144448852.html" target="_blank">Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports</a>. The head-hunting firm hired by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment to whittle down the list of potential replacements for Colangelo identified Ujiri as the top choice, sources told Wojnarowski.</p>
<p>Doug Smith of the Toronto Star <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/decision-on-bryan-colangelo-due-by-monday.html" target="_blank">reported yesterday</a> that the Raptors had until Monday to make a decision one way or the other on Colangelo, and that MLSE had hired a search firm to look into potential candidates -- Wojnarowski identifies the firm as Korn/Ferry International.</p>
<p>Perhaps it&#39;s no surprise that the man who was named 2013&#39;s NBA Executive of the Year <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/ujiri-to-be-named-executive-of-the-year.html" target="_blank">earlier this month</a> would emerge as the top candidate for MLSE. But in addition to being more than qualified for the job, Ujiri is on an expiring deal. Although he has a strong relationship with Nuggets CEO <strong>Josh Kroenke</strong>, Ujiri is only under contract until June 30th. It had been assumed that he and the Nuggets would work out a new agreement, but perhaps MLSE president/CEO <strong>Tim Leiweke</strong> could make a pitch and offer that would be enough to present Ujiri with a difficult decision.</p>
<p>Prior to becoming the Nuggets&#39; GM in 2010, Ujiri worked under Colangelo in Toronto for three years, including two as assistant GM, so he does have a history with the Raptors, which could work in Toronto&#39;s favor. The 76ers made a run at Ujiri a year ago in hopes of hiring him as their GM, but he turned down the team&#39;s interest.</p></div>

<li>Following the <strong>Warriors</strong>&#39; elimination from the postseason, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jackja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jarrett Jack</a></strong> tells <a href="http://www.mercurynews.com/warriors/ci_23264465/tearful-jarrett-jack-says-he-hopes-stay-golden" target="_blank">Marcus Thompson II of the San Jose Mercury News</a> that he&#39;d love to get a chance to return to the team next season. <em>&quot;Obviously there are other things that go into seeing if that works,&quot;</em> Jack said. <em>&quot;We all know this is a business at the end of the day. If I could do it, if I could rearrange it, I would definitely be back at this same locker.&quot;</em></li>
<li><a href="http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_23263008/ty-lawson-tweeting-desire-have-nuggets-stay-andre" target="_blank">Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post</a> takes a look at <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lawsoty01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ty Lawson</a></strong>&#39;s efforts to woo <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong> back to the <strong>Nuggets</strong> via social media. Lawson says he&#39;s been &quot;telling [Iguodala] all year&quot; that he ought to stay in Denver beyond this season.</li>
<li><strong>Cavaliers</strong> GM <strong>Chris Grant</strong> suggests to Sam Amico of FOX Sports Ohio (<a href="https://twitter.com/SamAmicoFSO/status/335419527586271232" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>) that the Cavs expect to be bigger players in free agency this summer than in recent years.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/20130516phoenix-suns-gm-ryan-mcdonough-search-new-coach.html" target="_blank">Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic</a> shares the latest news on the <strong>Suns</strong>&#39; head coaching search, writing that candidates on playoff teams become less likely for Phoenix the longer their respective clubs stay alive.</li>
<li><strong>Bulls</strong> coach <strong>Tom Thibodeau</strong> is hoping the team can bring back <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mohamna01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nazr Mohammed</a></strong>, calling his performance &quot;tremendous,&quot; but acknowledged that the big man may receive better offers. <a href="http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/20156008-579/joakim-noah-might-require-surgery-on-his-right-foot.html" target="_blank">Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times</a> has the details.</li>
<li>The <strong>Bobcats</strong> can&#39;t afford a misfire on draft night this year, says <a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-am-bobcats-cant-afford-draft-day-whiff" target="_blank">Lang Greene of HoopsWorld</a>.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>A year ago, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/asikom01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Omer Asik</a></strong> was coming off two seasons in Chicago in which he averaged 2.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, a .529 FG%, and a 12.6 PER in 13.2 minutes per game. Despite the pedesterian numbers, Asik was considered a big man with upside, and earned a three-year, $25MM contract from the Rockets. He lived up to that $8.3MM annual salary in his first season in Houston, starting all 82 games and averaging a double-double.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mozgoti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Timofey Mozgov</a></strong> isn&#39;t exactly the same type of player as Asik, but there are certainly plenty of similarities between the two bigs. Mozgov was considered a crucial piece in the blockbuster trade that sent <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/anthoca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carmelo Anthony</a></strong> to New York two seasons ago, but with <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mcgeeja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">JaVale McGee</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/koufoko01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kosta Koufos</a></strong> ahead of him in the Nuggets&#39; rotation, Mozgov hasn&#39;t seen a whole lot of playing time over the last two years. Since the start of the 2011/12 season, Mozgov&#39;s averages look similar to Asik&#39;s in Chicago: 4.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG, a .520 FG%, and a 12.9 PER in 12.3 MPG.</p>
<p>Like Asik a year ago, Mozgov will be eligible for restricted free agency this summer. While it was a no-brainer for the Bulls to extend a qualifying offer to Asik to ensure they could match rival offers (even though the team ultimately decided <em>not</em> to match Houston&#39;s offer), that&#39;s not necessarily the case for the Nuggets and Mozgov. At least <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/nuggets-will-tender-qualifying-offer-to-mozgov.html" target="_blank">one report</a> has suggested Mozgov will receive a qualifying offer from Denver, but that was met with <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/kylers-latest-howard-hawks-mozgov-biedrins.html" target="_blank">some skepticism</a> from at least one reporter, and it&#39;s not hard to see why.</p>
<p>Assuming <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong> opts out of his 2013/14 contract in search of a long-term deal, the Nuggets will still have approximately $52MM in guaranteed money on their books before attempting to negotiate new contracts for Iguodala and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/breweco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Corey Brewer</a></strong>. If the team hopes to bring back both players, or even just Iguodala, it&#39;s unclear if Mozgov&#39;s $3.93MM qualifying offer will be an affordable expense for a team that figures to steer clear of the luxury tax.</p>
<p>Still, the Nuggets have shown they&#39;re willing to pay big bucks to a player who essentially amounts to a backup center (McGee). Perhaps the risk of Mogov accepting that $3.93MM qualifying offer will be outweighed by the desire to keep a valuable asset under team control. After all, based on the amount of interest reported in Mozgov at the trade deadline, it seems there will be plenty of suitors for the big man, both this summer and perhaps in a trade at next year&#39;s deadline.</p>
<p>The list of potential suitors for Mozgov figures to include his old team, as the Knicks&#39; interest was reported both <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/knicks-inquired-on-timofey-mozgov.html" target="_blank">before</a> and <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/knicks-interested-in-timofey-mozgov.html" target="_blank">after</a> the trade deadline. The Timberwolves also reportedly <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/nuggets-turn-down-roy-draft-pick-for-mozgov.html" target="_blank">made a play</a> for Mozgov, with the <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/bobcats-discussed-timofey-mozgov-jj-hickson.html" target="_blank">Bobcats</a> and <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/02/heat-expressed-interest-in-timofey-mozgov.html" target="_blank">Heat</a> making inquiries as well. Not all of those clubs will be able to make big offers for the Russian this summer -- New York and Miami, for instance, will both be taxpayers, meaning the mini mid-level exception (up to three years and $9.98MM) will be the most they can offer, and that&#39;s assuming they make Mozgov their top free agent priority, which may be unlikely.</p>
<p>For a team like the Bobcats though, pursuing a player such as Mozgov would make a lot of sense. Charlotte has plenty of cap space at its disposal, but is unlikely to be in the mix for any premier free agents, based on the team&#39;s record and history. So why not make a play for a young big man with upside like Mozgov? The bidding for the Nuggets center probably won&#39;t reach Asik territory, meaning an offer like the one the Hornets gave <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lopezro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Robin Lopez</a></strong> last season (three years, $15.36MM) might be enough to get something done, and avoid the Nuggets matching. In that scenario, Mozgov would get some long-term security and a nice payday, while the Bobcats (or a similar lottery-bound team with cap room) would get the chance to roll the dice on a player who could thrive with more playing time. And at that price, the contract wouldn&#39;t become too toxic an asset even if Mozgov struggled.</p>
<p>It&#39;s hard to get a strong read on Mozgov&#39;s free agent value, given how little we&#39;ve seen of him on the court in the NBA. I don&#39;t expect him to be quite the prize that Asik was last year, but if Mozgov receives an offer that seems disproportionate to his career production, we shouldn&#39;t be surprised. The 26-year-old didn&#39;t get a real chance to shine in Denver, but a player with his combination of size and promise won&#39;t go unnoticed on the open market.</p></div>

<p>Most teams with 57 regular season wins, the Coach of the Year and the Executive of the Year would still find themselves alive in the postseason this time of year, but that&#39;s not the case for these Nuggets. Denver finds itself out of the first round for the ninth time in 10 years, with critics once more heralding the ineffectiveness of the team&#39;s egalitarian approach. There is no superstar on this roster, and&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong>, the team&#39;s closest facsimile, is&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/iguodala-to-likely-opt-out.html" target="_blank">likely to opt out</a>&#0160;of his contract and hit free agency this summer.</p>
<p>Team president <strong>Josh Kroenke</strong> and GM <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong> have both&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/northwest-notes-nuggets-iguodala-.html" target="_blank">expressed</a>&#0160;a&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/northwest-notes-nuggets-iguodala-.html" target="_blank">desire</a>&#0160;for Iguodala to return, and re-signing him would appear to be the team&#39;s top priority if the Olympic gold medalist opts out. A new contract for Iggy would likely hamstring the team&#39;s financial flexibility from a cap standpoint, though the primary option for upgrading this roster would likely be a trade. The&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/anthoca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carmelo Anthony</a></strong>&#0160;deal, the &#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hilarne01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nene</a></strong>/<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mcgeeja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">JaVale McGee</a></strong>&#0160;swap and the Nuggets&#39; participation in the&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong>/<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bynuman01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andrew Bynum</a></strong>&#0160;blockbuster that netted them Iguodala last summer represent three major trades in an 18-month span. Restraint isn&#39;t what put the Executive of the Year trophy in Ujiri&#39;s hands, and I wouldn&#39;t expect him to stand pat for long.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gallida01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Danilo Gallinari</a></strong>&#39;s torn ACL could complicate matters. Gallinari is just 24 years old and on an affordable contract that will pay him $32.561MM over the next three seasons. He represents one of the team&#39;s best assets if Ujiri wants to make a deal. The same could be said for 25-year-old&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lawsoty01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ty Lawson</a></strong>, though the Nuggets just signed him to a four-year, $48MM extension that kicks in next season, and they seem to view him as a long-term building block.</p>
<p>A better option might be&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chandwi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Wilson Chandler</a></strong>, who is due $20,273,739 through 2016, not too dire a price for someone who can play both forward positions and shot 41.3% from three-point range this season.&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/koufoko01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kosta Koufos</a></strong>&#0160;has severely limited shooting range, but he makes just $3MM next season and next, with only $500K guaranteed in the final season of his contract. That, along with his size, rebounding and efficiency, could intrigue other teams. The Nuggets also have&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/farieke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kenneth Faried</a></strong>&#0160;with two years left on his rookie deal, and while they&#39;d be loath to part with a bargain like him, they might be willing to do so if they could make him part of a package for a superstar.</p>
<p>Chandler, Koufos and Faried might allow for decent return in a trade, but Denver probably isn&#39;t getting a marquee player unless they&#39;re willing to include Lawson or another team is willing to take on Gallinari as damaged goods. Ujiri could get creative and structure a sign-and-trade with Iguodala or&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mozgoti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Timofey Mozgov</a></strong>, but doing so would require the players&#39; consent, which makes it tricky.</p>
<p>The Nuggets reportedly plan on&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/nuggets-will-tender-qualifying-offer-to-mozgov.html" target="_blank">extending a qualifying offer</a>&#0160;to Mozgov, though there&#39;s some <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/kylers-latest-howard-hawks-mozgov-biedrins.html" target="_blank">doubt</a> that they&#39;d do so, since he could just accept it and make nearly $4MM next season as overpriced end-of-the-bench filler. The 7&#39;1&quot; center was a hot trade candidate at the deadline this season, so if the Nuggets float the offer and Mozgov doesn&#39;t bite, rival teams in need of size could be goaded into overpaying for Mozgov to scare the Nuggets off from matching. If Ujiri can negotiate a fairly priced multiyear deal for the Russian, he could be thrown into trade discussions again at next year&#39;s deadline.</p>
<p>The other notable free agent on the roster is&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/breweco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Corey Brewer</a></strong>, who enjoyed a renaissance this season and drew&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/george-karl-talks-nuggets-lineups-contract.html" target="_blank">high praise</a>&#0160;from&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/karlge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">George Karl</a></strong>. His poor outside shooting was exposed in the playoffs, however, and his 5-for-28 shooting in the final three games of the Warriors series may have cost him plenty of money. That could allow the Nuggets to pick him back up at a cheap price, although the team&#39;s subpar performance from behind the three-point line this season suggests they should go after someone with better touch. Denver was 20th in made three-pointers this season, and it&#39;s been known since March that the team&#0160;<a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/nuggets-expected-to-target-korver-in-offseason.html" target="_blank">will target</a>&#0160;sharpshooter&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/korveky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kyle Korver</a></strong>&#0160;in free agency, likely with its mid-level exception. Korver will likely have plenty of suitors, but the Nuggets could look to other three-point gunners if they miss out on him.</p>
<p>Denver&#39;s 57 regular season wins were a franchise best, but NBA teams are measured on their success in the postseason. Anthony was around for many of the team&#39;s playoff failures, but he was also the centerpiece of the Nuggets&#39; lone escape from the first round in recent memory, in 2009 when they went to the Western Conference Finals. That, coupled with this year&#39;s shortcomings, should be enough to persuade Ujiri to step up his pursuit of superstar talent, no matter how risky (Bynum) or unproven (<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">DeMarcus Cousins</a></strong>) it may be.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Additional notes</strong>:</span></p>
<ul>
<li>Mozgov&#39;s situation is unusual, since his cap hold is much greater than his&#0160;$3,925,536 qualifying offer would be. He was undrafted, so he never signed a rookie-scale contract, and thus his cap hold is 190% of his salary from this season instead of the QO.</li>
<li>The Nuggets have already made one offseason decision, having kept&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millequ01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Quincy Miller</a></strong>&#0160;on the roster for more than seven days following their final game. That triggered his partial guarantee for next season.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>According to&#0160;<a href="http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9261768/nba-trade-value-part-3" target="_blank">Grantland&#39;s Bill Simmons</a>, who finishes off his three-part trade value column, there&#39;s &quot;increasing buzz&quot; that the <strong>Lakers</strong> would amnesty <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bryanko01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kobe Bryant</a></strong> if they were guaranteed to sign both <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Paul</a></strong>. That appears a longshot on multiple counts, since the <strong>Clippers</strong> seem all but assured of re-signing Paul, while the Lakers have insisted they&#39;re not considering the amnesty move on Kobe. Even if the Lakers take Kobe&#39;s $30MM+ salary for next season off their books, it would still be difficult for the team to fit a max contract for Paul under the cap. Regardless, the offseason figures to be full of intrigue in L.A., as always. Here&#39;s the latest from the City of Angels and other Western Conference locales:</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-pm-top-five-destinations-for-josh-smith?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=nba-pm-top-five-destinations-for-josh-smith" target="_blank">HoopsWorld&#39;s Bill Ingram</a> identifies the five teams most likely to lure <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithjo03.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Josh Smith</a></strong> away from the <strong>Hawks</strong>, with the <strong>Mavericks</strong> at the top of the list. If the Hawks want to pursue a sign-and-trade, however, that would probably eliminate Dallas from the equation, Ingram figures.</li>
<li>In the same NBA PM piece, Ingram points to <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/05/mavs-notes-mayo-pekovic-free-agency.html" target="_blank">recent comments</a> from GM <strong>Donnie Nelson </strong>and sizes up the <strong>Mavs</strong>&#39; chances of landing Paul.</li>

Despite a disappointing first round exit for the Nuggets, Iguodala was very productive in six games against Golden State, averaging 18.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.0 SPG while shooting 50% from the field overall and an excellent 48.3% from long range on nearly five three-point attempts per game. It will be interesting to see how those numbers factor into determining Iguodala&#39;s worth in the free agent market this summer.&#0160;</div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Nuggets coach <strong>George Karl</strong> has officially won the 2012/13 Coach of the Year award, the team announced today in a <a href="http://www.nba.com/nuggets/news/george-karl-named-2012-13-nba-coach-year" target="_blank">press release</a>. Karl beat out <strong>Erik Spoelstra</strong> (Heat), <strong>Mike Woodson</strong> (Knicks), <strong>Gregg Popovich</strong> (Spurs), and <strong>Frank Vogel</strong> (Pacers), who rounded out the top five.</p>
<p>Karl, who received 62 of 121 possible first-place votes, guided the Nuggets to a 57-25 record and a No. 3 seed in a competitive Western Conference. Although the team fell to the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, its regular-season results, without a legit superstar, were impressive.</p>
<p>This year&#39;s Coach of the Year race was viewed as wide open, so I&#39;m surprised Karl received more than half of the first-place votes. Besides the coaches who finished in the top five, <strong>Lionel Hollins</strong> (Grizzlies), <strong>Mark Jackson</strong> (Warriors), <strong>Tom Thibodeau</strong> (Bulls), and <strong>Kevin McHale</strong> (Rockets) were among the candidates worthy of consideration. Those four, along with <strong>P.J. Carlesimo</strong> (Nets), all finished in the top ten.</p>
<p>The Nuggets will hold a press conference at 12:30 CST today to formally present Karl with the award.</p></div>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>When discussing potential landing spots besides L.A. for <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> this summer, many pundits point to Houston as an ideal fit for the big man, given the <strong>Rockets</strong>&#39; combination of young talent and cap space. Of course, the Rockets already have a solid defensive center in their starting lineup, but <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/asikom01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Omer Asik</a></strong> tells <a href="http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2013/05/omer-asik-not-worried-about-dwight-howard-talk/" target="_blank">Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle</a> that he&#39;s not letting the Howard rumors affect him.</p>
<p><em>&quot;It’s all things that happen out of my control,&quot;</em> Asik said. <em>&quot;I really
don’t know and I really don’t care. Whether it happens, we’ll see. I’m
just looking forward to rest and getting better for the next season.&quot;</em></p>
<p>Here&#39;s more on the Rockets and their Western Conference rivals:</p>
<ul>
<li>Although the <strong>Rockets</strong> are unlikely to exercise a team option that would pay him $6.4MM, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/garcifr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Francisco Garcia</a></strong> would still like to find a way to return to Houston, as <a href="http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2013/05/francisco-garcia-wants-to-return-if-he-fits-in-rockets-cap/" target="_blank">he tells Feigen</a>.</li>
<li>After explaining over the weekend why <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/perkike01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kendrick Perkins</a></strong> is unlikely to be amnestied, <a href="http://newsok.com/article/3806962" target="_blank">Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman</a> wonders if the <strong>Thunder</strong> big man is undervalued, at least by fans.</li>
<li>If the <strong>Jazz</strong> don&#39;t spend heavily this summer, it will
 be a &quot;strategic decision&quot; rather than an indication the team is
financially strapped, according to GM Dennis Lindsey (<a href="https://twitter.com/sluhm/status/331269853468045312" target="_blank">Twitter link</a> via Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune).</li>
<li>Despite an early exit from the postseason, GM <strong>Masai Ujiri</strong> isn&#39;t worried about the <strong>Nuggets</strong>, telling 9News in Denver that the team will <em>&quot;get ready for next season and figure out ways to fix it and get better.&quot;</em> As <a href="http://blogs.denverpost.com/nuggets/2013/05/05/nuggets-gm-masai-ujiri-the-season-and-future-is-nothing-we-need-to-panic-about/8813/" target="_blank">Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post</a> points out, a new contract for Ujiri figures to be one item near the top of the club&#39;s offseason to-do list.</li>
<li>Following another unproductive season, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/henryxa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Xavier  Henry</a></strong> doesn&#39;t have a clear spot in the <strong>Pelicans</strong>&#39; future plans, writes <a href="http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2013/05/for_new_orleans_hornets_xavier.html" target="_blank">Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans Times-Picayune</a>.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Having already examined free-agents-to-be on postseason teams at each of the other four positions, <a href="http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-am-the-playoff-free-agent-centers" target="_blank">Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld</a> turns his attention to the playoff centers heading for free agency this summer. Here are a few highlights from his piece:</p>
<ul>
<li>The <strong>Lakers</strong> will be able to offer <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Dwight Howard</a></strong> over $30MM more than any other team, as I <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/03/max-contract-scenarios-for-2013-free-agents.html" target="_blank">outlined here</a>, but that doesn&#39;t mean he&#39;s a sure bet to be back. As Kyler notes, money and market are usually deciding factors, but L.A. will have to convince Howard that he won&#39;t be signing up for five more years as bad as 2012/13.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pachuza01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Zaza Pachulia</a></strong> will be recovering from a partially torn Achilles, raising significant questions about his next contract. The <strong>Hawks</strong> are unlikely to bring him back for more than the minimum, according to Kyler.</li>
<li>With Pachulia out in Atlanta, <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/petrojo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Johan Petro</a></strong> has improved his stock recently and could be in line for a new deal with the <strong>Hawks</strong>, particularly if the team strikes out on higher-profile targets.</li>
<li>Despite a <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/nuggets-will-tender-qualifying-offer-to-mozgov.html" target="_blank">report suggesting</a> the <strong>Nuggets</strong> will extend a qualifying offer to <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mozgoti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Timofey Mozgov</a></strong>, Kyler is skeptical that Denver will really make such an offer (one year for nearly $4MM), since Mozgov could accept it. A two-year deal from another team is the most likely scenario for Mozgov, in Kyler&#39;s view. There has been enough reported interest for Mozgov that it wouldn&#39;t surprise me if the Nuggets retained him and considered him a trade asset going forward.</li>
<li>Kyler hears from sources that when <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/dalemsa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Samuel Dalembert</a></strong> worked out for the <strong>Heat</strong> prior to the 2011/12 season, the team decided he had put on too much weight, and passed. As such, it&#39;s probably unlikely that Dalembert ends up in Miami this offseason.</li>
<li>Although <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/biedran01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andris Biedrins</a></strong> is viewed as a lock to opt in to the final year of his contract, worth $9MM, Kyler wonders if the <strong>Warriors</strong> could convince him to opt out if it meant adding an extra year to his deal. For instance, the team could re-sign him to a two-year, $10MM pact to reduce his cap hit for 2013/14. I&#39;d be surprised to see that happen though.</li>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>When I <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/poll-which-team-down-2-0-could-advance.html" target="_blank">asked yesterday</a> which playoff team down 2-0 in the first round had the best chance of coming back and advancing, over half of you picked the <strong>Grizzlies</strong>. Memphis delivered on the first step of that comeback last night, holding the <strong>Clippers</strong> to 82 points en route to a Game Three win.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the <strong>Rockets</strong> only received about 5% of the votes in that poll, but their chances likely improved with word from the <strong>Thunder</strong> that <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/westbru01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Russell Westbrook</a></strong> <a href="http://www.nba.com/thunder/news/release_130426.html" target="_blank">will undergo surgery</a> to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. As we wait for official word on a timetable for Westbrook&#39;s return, let&#39;s check out a few notes from around the Western Conference:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong><strong>Nate McMillan</strong></strong> may be a <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/nate-mcmillan-front-runner-to-coach-pistons.html" target="_blank">top contender</a> for the <strong>Pistons</strong>&#39; head coaching opening, but <a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20130426/SPORTS03/304260032/detroit-pistons-coaching-candidates-nate-micmillian-%20lindsey-hunter" target="_blank">Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press</a> says there&#39;s a &quot;belief around the league&quot; that McMillan will wait to see what happens with the <strong>Kings</strong>, since he could also be a strong candidate there if the franchise moves to Seattle.</li>
<li>The NBA&#39;s relocation committee is expected to make a recommendation to the Board of Governors <a href="http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/kings-recommendation-expected-on-monday.html" target="_blank">next Monday</a> on whether or not to approve the sale and relocation of the <strong>Kings</strong>. However, an official vote by league owners may not come until May 13th, as <a href="http://www.sacbee.com/2013/04/26/5373160/nba-expects-may-13-vote-on-kings.html" target="_blank">Dale Kasler, Ryan Lillis, and Tony Bizjak of the Sacramento Bee</a> outline.</li>
<li>While <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kamanch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Kaman</a></strong> has said he&#39;d like to return to Dallas next season, <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4695862/buy-or-bye-chris-kaman" target="_blank">Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com</a> thinks the veteran big man just doesn&#39;t want to close any doors. MacMahon predicts Kaman will have to take a pay cut this summer, and will end up signing a one-year contract with a team besides the <strong>Mavericks</strong>.</li>
<li>Speaking to <a href="http://www.mondo.rs/s287762/Sport/Kosarka/Pekovic-_Ne_bih_u_Evropu_ni_za_dobre_pare.html" target="_blank">Mondo.rs</a> (translation via <a href="http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/nikola_pekovic" target="_blank">HoopsHype</a>), <strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pekovni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Nikola Pekovic</a></strong> reiterated a desire to re-sign with the <strong>Timberwolves</strong> this summer, adding that he has no intention of leaving the NBA to return to Europe.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/iguodan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Andre Iguodala</a></strong>&#39;s performance in this year&#39;s postseason could go a long way to exhibiting whether or not he&#39;s worth a long-term, big-money contract, according to <a href="http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_23110714/mark-kiszla-time-find-out-if-andre-iguodala" target="_blank">Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post</a>.</li>
