Pelicans owner Tom Benson bought in to the NBA at the right time, writes Jimmy Smith of the Times-Picayune. The Pelicans, purchased for $338MM by Benson in April 2012, are now worth $420MM. It wasn’t an attendance boost that helped fill out Benson’s wallet even further but rather the new Collective Bargaining Agreement which is more owner-friendly than the previous one. - The Cavs announced that they have recalled Carrick Felix and Sergey Karasev from the D-League. Both players were recalled and re-assigned to the Canton Charge last week but are back in the fold with the varsity squad today. Felix has played in nine games for the Charge this season, averaging 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 28.7 minutes per game. Karasev has appeared in six games for the Charge and is averaging 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 28.8 minutes per game.
- Meanwhile, NBA executives are stumped as to why the Cavs won’t demote Anthony Bennett, tweets Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 draft picked up yet another DNP-CD tonight.
- In today’s mailbag, Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel wonders if Dwyane Wade might take a financial sacrifice for the Heat by opting out and re-working his deal. Instead of taking $40MM over the next two seasons, Winderman suggests a five-year, $60MM deal for the veteran.
I have a feeling we see Wade join Rose if they don’t win it all this year or if LeBron goes elsewhere. With Boozer likely being amnestied they’ll have the money to add him and another piece. Perfect fit in a lineup of Rose and Noah and a likely solid draft pick.
Wade has already declared he’s not leaving the Heat sorry to burst your bubble. I also believe he will take less.. maybe even more than the article suggests to keep Lebron, Bosh, and even add more pieces. Remember that Boozer guy you just mentioned? Guess who lives in Miami and wanted to sign there in 2010?
Ouch, I guess I hurt a Heat fans feelings. a) Not a Heat nor Bulls fan b) He won’t take less when he’s guaranteed $40 million. Sorry to burst YOUR bubble but when has that ever been done? It was a suggestion by a writer, nothing more or less. And as a guy that actively roots against the Heat, I pray you’re right and you guys get Boozer.
You didn’t hurt my feelings buddy.. you are just pretty biased. And who has taken less to keep a team flexible under a salary cap?…. Dirk Nowitzki is about to do it in Dallas, and NFL players do it almost routinely every year. Do you watch sports or just talk about them?
Biased? No. Again, who has ever done so, ever? Don’t name who you THINK will do it or other sports where their contracts are completely different (i.e. non guaranteed). Who HAS done so? No one. Especially none that drastic. It seems as though you may want to criticize yourself a bit more if you’re unaware of how drastically different the NFL and NBA are.
Also…Dirk doesn’t have a contract beyond this year…so…ummm what?
I wouldn’t want to give Wade a 5 year deal after this season. Not sure he could hold up another 5 years.
