The Knicks are one of a number of NBA teams that are interested in potentially signing Tony Wroten, Ian Begley of ESPN.com (ESPN Now link) reports. The point guard cleared waivers over the weekend after having been released by the Sixers last week. Begley didn’t specify the names of the other teams thinking about adding Wroten. The Clippers had expressed some interest in Wroten last season, as Dan Woike of the Orange County Register noted (on Twitter), but they don’t have room on their roster to accommodate his addition without making a corresponding personnel move.
New York’s exact level of interest in Wroten is unclear at this point, but Begley’s sources informed him that the club has expressed interest in obtaining a guard via trade or free-agent signing in recent days. The franchise has also been monitoring D-League players as potential additions, Begley adds. The Knicks roster count currently stands at 14 players, meaning the club can add Wroten without trading or waiving another player.
Wroten was in the fourth and final year of his rookie-scale contract and will still collect the remainder of his $2.179MM fully guaranteed salary from Philadelphia. Although he only played in 30 contests last year due to injury, he led the Sixers in points per game, averaging a total of 16.9 per contest. But Wroten struggled this season as he made his way back from injury, appearing in just eight contests and averaging 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 18.0 minutes per night.
Here we go another unproven guard. Greater!
I wouldn’t say Tony Wroten is unproved, he did average 17 points and 5 assists per game last year to go along with 1.6 steals per game.
Wroten is a big upgrade on defense and he did avg 17 ppg last year sis know seeing Cameron escort point guard to the basket

Exactly, and it would involve very little risk on the Knicks part. Wroten is available for signing, which means no trades. And he has almost 3 million guaranteed money coming from philly so one would think His cost would be reasonable. I have my eyes on others also but Wrotens not a bad choice.
Also Erick Green (D-League) might make sense if the Knicks can get him
Considering the lack of penetration our PGs get i would get him now low risk high reward
Why not reading Calderon for Jennings ??? We need a proven PG even though Wroten don’t hurt if we add him
Pistons need more value. Even coming back from an injury, Jennings is more valuable than Calderon. Detroit also doesn’t need a backup PG so a pick/another player would need to be attached.
How about adding cleanthony and/or one of the bigs (KOQ,KS)??
If healthy , Wroten would be a welcomed addition to the current Knick backcourt ! They are in need of his style of play from the point guard position
Not much of an improvement on offense but at least he’ll play goos defense, tired of watching Calderon get beat by every PG he guards
This would be a great addition. He’s very young and has already proven he can score on a consistent basis. Very good upgrade without having to give up much. He could be the younger version of Calderon but more experience than jerian grant
The Knicks have a glaring need at point guard, and Wroten also plays much better defense than Jose Calderon. With all that said, I say the Knicks should try to sign him
It’s hard to envision the Knicks getting a better point guard without giving up valuable assets. With the East as wide open as it is, they should definitely pursue Wroten.
The Knicks need to get a solid point guard to develop chemistry with their future franchise player, Porzingis.
