The Clippers are in championship or bust mode this season, coach and executive Doc Rivers conceded, and the team may need to add Carmelo Anthony to have a better shot at topping the Warriors in the playoffs, Dan Woike of The Orange County Register writes. At this point, the Clippers must be debating the urgency for a roster overhaul, Woike adds, considering this group still has yet to make an appearance in the conference finals. One name that continues to pop up in trade talks, especially with the Knicks in regard to Anthony, is Austin Rivers, who said he hasn’t spoken to anyone in the Clippers front office or with his agent, Andy Miller, about the possibility of being traded, Woike relays.

- Doc Rivers said he would trade his son, if that was the best thing for the team, and if the Clippers want to trade with the Knicks, that may be the only way a deal gets done, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes. The Knicks met with Austin Rivers over the summer, but were outbid, Berman notes, so New York has had interest in the guard. The Knicks would need a third team to work out a deal involving Jamal Crawford or J.J. Redick because of their contracts, while league rules prevent Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose from being on the same team, Berman adds.
- The same reasons why Marreese Speights was a good fit for the Warriors, which included having a veteran presence on the court and fun spirit off it, are making him a good addition for the Clippers, Rowan Kavner of NBA.com writes. Speights signed a one-year deal with the Clippers in July.
Why can’t rose and griff be on the same team?
Think I read u can’t have 2 max contract guys on same team who signed their max deals with other teams. Rose still on max contract with bulls

The clippers need Melo without giving up a star, or they can’t compete with the warriors. I’m a bay area local, and I’m all for this. The Warriors need real competition.
The Warriors do have real competition though. Rockets can keep pace with the Warriors if it comes to a shootout, the Jazz are a sneaky team to watch out for, the Grizzlies seem to be the Warriors’ Western Conference kryptonite, and we still haven’t seen the Spurs and Warriors in a 7 game playoff series. I’m not sure if the Spurs match up that well against them, but you can never count out the Spurs and Pop in a 7 game series.

I’d assume this is where the 3rd team would come in. Clips deal 2 rotation players and a couple 2nd rounders, 1 future first. 3rd team sends a prospect and a pick. Clips get Melo, 3rd team ends up with one of the rotation players and a second rounder, and the Knicks get the rest. Maybe rebalance some of the picks based on the quality of the players being moved.
I’d assume the package from the Clippers would be Rivers, Crawford, Brice Johnson, 2021 1st rounder and another pick of some sort. Crawford would go to the 3rd team with a 1st rounder, and Baker and Melo would end up with the Clippers. The Knicks might get a future 2nd round pick out of the 3rd team……
The Knicks got an idiot for a coach, he just sits there and don’t even try to get the refs to stop making so many calls against the team and he keeps playing Noah all game and what do get maybe 2 points a game. Noah is trash and the Knicks gave up Rolo that did a excellent job at center last year, Knicks aren’t loyal to anybody, as long as the garden sells out, they don’t care about building a good team, as long as he keeps that wack as lineup, we are gonna keep losing games, the team is terrible on D and Hornacek is not the person we needed, Tibs would of been much better fit, since he about D and Noah would had being benched by now. I’m sick to my stomach every time I watch this team and the problem is the Coach.

Unless the Clips really thought they were going to lose Blake Griffin or CP3 for nothing, trading Griffin makes them a worse team when considering what else they would be giving up in your hypothetical deal. In this deal, the Clips would be trading their starting SG, SF, PF, backup SG, and backup combo guard. In return, they would be acquiring Melo (who would most likely replace Blake in the starting lineup), Gerald Henderson (who would likely replace Redick or Mbah–and Henderson is not an upgrade over Redick and maybe a slight upgrade over Mbah), Holiday (backup combo guard who is worse than Rivers), and Rose (who would help the Clips while CP3 is out, but likely becomes the backup PG since him and CP3 would be a terrible starting guard combination). Basically, the Clips leave this deal even worse than before as they now have a gaping hole at SG/SF (depending where you slot Henderson).
