At the time that the Hawks sent Kyle Korver to the Cavaliers last month, it looked like a fire sale may be imminent in Atlanta. However, the team pulled Paul Millsap off the market shortly thereafter and has solidified its hold on a top-five spot in the Eastern Conference. Now, with the trade deadline approaching, the Hawks are actively looking to add to their roster, according to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Although Vivlamore doesn’t specify any particular players the Hawks are targeting, he notes that the team has several assets that could be used in a trade in the next seven days. The Hawks have had discussions with teams about Thabo Sefolosha and Tim Hardaway Jr., per Vivlamore, and those are just two of the many Atlanta players headed for free agency this summer. Tiago Splitter, Kris Humphries, Mike Muscala, and Mike Scott are on expiring deals too — so is Millsap, though the Hawks have said he’s not going anywhere.
In addition to those veteran players that could be included in deals, the Hawks will have a spot opening on their roster on Friday if they don’t re-sign Lamar Patterson, whose 10-day contract is set to expire. The team also has a collection of extra draft picks, including future first-rounders from the Timberwolves and Cavaliers.
Millsap and Dwight Howard have given Atlanta some solid production in the frontcourt this season, and Dennis Schroder has been effective at the point, but the team’s roster lacks additional impact players. A third big man, a backcourt scorer, or another wing are all options for the Hawks if they do make a move.
Radio guys in ATL are speculating Baze, Thabo, and 2 future 1’s for Carmelo for what it’s worth.
Thats not a bad deal. Probably trading that Cavs pick they got for Korver. Both teams benefit.
I would be on board with that. The 1’s would be late round picks. If the Hawks cannot bring in a difference maker on the wing they might as well trade Millsap and not overpay him this offseason when he opts out. Getting Bazemore’s contract off the books would be huge. Anthony obviously has a larger contract….but he produces.
Melo aint going anywhere bruh, he doesnt want to leave NY period and it’s not his fault the Knicks are losing right now, Porzingis is simply not coming through. It should be a 3 man attack with Rose,Melo, and Porzingis is Porzingis just is not showing up. I mean seriously Porzingis pulls up from 30 without hesitation like his range is that good when its not. He gets pushed around constantly and his ball handling is overrated, he should be living on the post and he isnt.
The Hawks would be beyond dumb to not re-sign Tim Hardaway JR, the dude has finally developed into a solid starting shooting guard, why move him? The Hawks need to re-sign Millsap and Hardaway JR and just be patient with Bazemore, he will come around. Melo is not leaving the Knicks, sick of these rumors.
I think the only problem I would have with trading Baze AND thabo is that it would force prince into a lot more minutes. Not saying that they’re undeserved minutes but for a rookie having to play under Carmelo and play more minutes than he has, it could be tough. On the flip side, it could make prince better it’ll be interesting for sure
Melo isn’t waving his trade clause to go to hawks . If he was to waive it would prolly be to cavs, clippers , or celtics

I’m all for resigning Millsap if they move him to small forward. It makes no sense to pay him 24-25 mil if he has to subject his body getting battered at his age. Trade for the defensive PF from the Phoenix Suns. Would be worth the 1st rounder and other pieces it would take to get him.
What defensive power forward? Maybe you are referring to PJ Tucker?

I don’t think the Hawks or anyone cares too much for Melo although the Knocks would love to move that awful contract and attitude.
Lou Williams and Tyson Chandler should be the targets.

Timmy should be resigned the little guy makes things happen. He gets to the cup, he can shoot, and he is spark plug. He is only 24! Milsap should be signed back too. We need another scorer. A big 3 sort of speak.
