FEBRUARY 6: The trade is now official, according to press releases from the Warriors and Sixers. Philadelphia waived Trey Burke in a corresponding move, as we noted earlier. The team created the other roster opening by sending James Ennis to Orlando.
FEBRUARY 5: The Warriors and Sixers have agreed to a trade that will send Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III to Philadelphia, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
According to Charania (Twitter link), the 76ers will send Golden State a trio of second-round picks in the deal. Those three picks are Dallas’ 2020 second-rounder, Denver’s 2021 second-rounder, and Toronto’s 2022 second-rounder, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
The 76ers have a full 15-man roster, so they’ll have to move a pair of players to accommodate the new additions. They’re working on possible trades to clear those roster spots, but will waive two players at the deadline if necessary, tweets Wojnarowski.
No salary-matching is required in the deal, since both Burks and Robinson are on one-year, minimum-salary contracts and can be taken on using the minimum salary exception.
Sixers general manager Elton Brand had been on the lookout for players who could provide the team with reliable depth and outside shooting, and Burks and Robinson should fit nicely. Both wings have played increased roles for the injury-plagued Warriors this season, with Burks averaging a career-best 16.1 PPG with 3.1 APG and a .375 3PT% in 48 games (29.0 MPG), while Robinson has put up a career-high 12.9 PPG and 4.7 RPG on .481/.400/.851 shooting in 48 games (31.6 MPG).
Philadelphia didn’t have expendable players on mid-level-type salaries to make a run at higher-priced trade candidates, so the team made use of its cache of second-round selections to acquire a pair of low-cost veterans. Even after surrendering three future picks in this deal, the Sixers still control a handful of valuable second-round selections, including the Hawks’ and Knicks’ 2020 second-rounders.
As for the Warriors, they’ve rebuilt their own collection of future draft picks in recent weeks, having now acquired a total of four second-rounders for role players Burks, Robinson, and Willie Cauley-Stein. The moves have also helped Golden State inch closer to the tax line for the 2019/20 season.
As Jeff Siegel of Early Bird Rights details (Twitter link), the Dubs are still slightly over the luxury tax threshold, and will move further into tax territory once they sign replacement players. But they’re at the point where they’ve greatly reduced their projected end-of-season bill and could even sneak out of the tax if they move another player or two on Thursday.
The Warriors will have just 11 players under contract once this trade goes through. The team will have to sign at least one player by Saturday, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter link), who suggests Marquese Chriss is a strong candidate to be promoted to the 15-man roster. Golden State will subsequently have to add two more players to get to the NBA-mandated minimum of 14 later this month.

Depends on the team. Some teams are actually good at scouting and developing and can find the occasional second round gem/contributor. Worst case its a sweetner in a trade and can be a cheap, expendable asset to trade for bench depth.
For a team like the Warriors who will clearly be making a playoff push next season, draft picks of any kind are tremendously valuable. Throw in 1st overall this year and the Warriors will get an infusion of young talent they need.
They’re good for making trades. Next year when Curry and Thompson are back and they are contenders, they can flip some of those picks for good role players at the deadline.
Is Curry still coming back this season to give his team a glimmer of hope that they’re still a team capable of even making the playoffs? Probably not.

GSW season ended when Steph broke his wrist, it’s all about accumulating draft capital so that we can target a superstar from a team that doesn’t advance to the level they want this summer.

Hopefully they can pull of a trade Zhaire Smith might get them back something, Korkmaz might have some value as might Jonah Bolden… Mike Scott can be used to match salaries in a trade but he’s been useful as a stretch big.

It’s hard because I don’t want to see Smith or Korkmaz go. Smith has the high ceiling and Korkmaz can shoot, but I don’t see Brown getting rid of Neto. He loves him and he tries to squeeze all he can out of him that he leaves his bench without any minutes behind Neto. I’d like to see Neto, Ennis, and out of Scott or Bolden go so we have a spot open for waivers.
Good deal for both teams. Thought that might be best route for Philly.
May be sending Milton and Bolden back.

Philly needs to build that bench up otherwise they are not going anywhere in the playoffs with teams that have depth like Toronto and Boston and Milwaukee. good for Philly though
I don’t understand why people think the Bucks are deep. If Giannis got hurt, they would quickly fall out of playoff contention. A slew of mediocre players (other than Middleton) noes not = depth.

Funny how the Warriors can now throw these picks in when they offer the #1 pick and Russell for either Embiid or Simmons. The Warriors have big trade assets to absorb another superstar. Wow.

You’re high if you think the Sixers will sell Simmons. The entire offense is built around him.
Last few years warriors traded away picks now on a down year they are picking up picks. that is how you rebuild a team to keep them getting better. Teams out of it holding on to players make no sense so does teams that are playoff bound doing nothing to fill holes.
Philly did well to get the two guys and still hold onto the better 2nd round picks they have. I’m pretty sure they have both Atlanta and the Knicks this year, and the Knicks next year.
Philly got their 3 pt shooters but may have chemistry issues which neither of the acquired players would help alleviate unless you are in the camp that thinks if they start winning those issues will go away.
Their chemistry issue is getting a smart PG-type player in the lineup, with OConnell and Butler gone. Burks can sneak in with enough height & shooting and do that. A cheap, handy Plan B.
He does miss games with injuries, though; that was the rep he established in Utah… much like gr3 in Indy. So far so good for both this year. Burks has to stay that way, to keep his any status in the pack.
Another trade is coming. I think the Sixers will try to package 3 of there less used bench guys to try to get one more upgrade.
Ennis for a 2nd Round pick from the Magic
