Rob Edwards

Bucks Sign, Waive Rob Edwards

The Bucks signed and waived guard Rob Edwards, according to RealGM.

The purpose for signing Edwards to an Exhibit 10 deal and then waiving him was to ensure he’ll get a $50K bonus if he spends at least 60 days with the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s G League affiliate. The Herd acquired Edwards’ returning rights in a trade with the Oklahoma City Blue earlier this month.

Edwards signed with and appeared in two NBA games for the Thunder last season under the hardship exception during the wave of COVID that struck the league in late December. In 32 G League games for the OKC Blue, Edwards averaged 13.3 PPG and 4.4 RPG. He shot 34.4% from 3-point range.

Edwards went undrafted in 2020 out of Arizona State.

Three G League Players Sign With Thunder Under Hardship Exemption

Center Olivier Sarr and guards Scotty Hopson and Rob Edwards have signed 10-day contracts with the Thunder under the hardship exemption, according to the official NBA transactions log. All three have been playing for the Thunder’s G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.

Sarr, who went undrafted this year after playing at Kentucky last season, has averaged 7.1 PPG and 4.9 RPG while mostly coming off the bench in 14 games for the Blue.

Hopson, 32, has three games of NBA experience. He’s appeared in 11 G League games this season, averaging 6.4 PPG, 2.3 RPG and 1.4 APG.

Edwards, undrafted last year out of Arizona State, has averaged 12.3 PPG and 1.9 APG in 15 NBAGL games this season.

Oklahoma City, with four players currently in the league’s health and safety protocols, also reportedly intends to sign Zavier Simpson.

Thunder Release Rob Edwards

The Thunder have trimmed their preseason roster to 19 players, announcing today that they’ve waived guard Rob Edwards.

Edwards, who went undrafted out of Arizona State in 2020, played for the Oklahoma City Blue – the Thunder’s G League affiliate – as a rookie in 2020/21. The 6’6″ guard averaged 12.5 PPG and 3.5 RPG with a .440 3PT% in 15 NBAGL games (21.3 MPG).

Edwards was a member of the Thunder’s Summer League team in Las Vegas in August and appears likely to rejoin the Blue for the upcoming G League season, since OKC has his returning rights. Having received an Exhibit 10 deal, he’d be in line for a bonus worth up to $50K if he spends at least 60 days in the NBAGL.

Oklahoma City now has 13 players on guaranteed contracts, one with a partial guarantee, three on non-guaranteed deals, and a pair on two-way pacts.

Thunder Sign Rob Edwards, D.J. Wilson

The Thunder have filled out their 20-man training camp roster by signing guard Rob Edwards and forward D.J. Wilson, the club announced in a press release.

Wilson, the 17th overall pick in the 2017 draft, spent the first three-and-a-half season of his career in Milwaukee before being traded to Houston at last season’s trade deadline. He had fallen out of the Bucks’ rotation, but averaged 6.1 PPG and 3.8 RPG with a shooting line of .416/.339/.696 in 23 games (14.3 MPG) during his stint with the Rockets.

Terms of the deals weren’t disclosed, but it’s safe to assume they’re both non-guaranteed training camp contracts. Oklahoma City now has 13 players with guaranteed salaries, five on non-guaranteed deals, and a pair on two-way pacts.
