Lottery pick Yaxel Lendeborg wasn’t the only notable performer on the Warriors‘ roster that won the Las Vegas Summer League title. Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area reviews what he saw from four other players in the aftermath of the Vegas games, as well as the earlier California Classic.
LJ Cryer, an undrafted guard who appeared in 18 games as a rookie last season, continued to display his shooting prowess while averaging 14 points per game on 44% shooting, including 41.3% from deep. He also averaged 4.0 assists but his defensive shortcomings tend to somewhat offset his offensive contributions, Poole notes.
This year’s second-round pick, Lajae Jones, got off to a slow start but perked up in Vegas. Meanwhile, 2025 second-rounder Will Richard was noticeably stronger and played with more confidence, setting him up to make a bigger impact in his second season. Big man Graham Ike has good size and was active in the paint but remains a long shot to snare a roster spot, Poole adds.

- Klay Th0mpson stated in a TikTok video relayed by Will Simonds of NBCSportsBayArea.com that he wouldn’t rule out a potential return to the Warriors. “Never say never,” Thompson replied to a Golden State fan’s comment about missing him. Unless he signs an extension with the Mavericks, the veteran sharpshooter will be an unrestricted free agent next summer, when his three-year, $50MM contract expires. Thompson could reach free agency earlier with a buyout, but recent reporting has indicated that the Mavericks haven’t considered that possibility to this point.
- If LeBron James joins the Warriors, he might face his former team in Golden State’s preseason home opener. The Lakers will play the Warriors on Oct. 6, the team announced in a press release (Twitter link). The Warriors will play home games against the Kings on Oct. 10 and the Trail Blazers on Oct. 16 to round out their preseason home schedule.

warriors should use their open 2 way spot on Ike Graham. Cryer may be ready to make him a regular roster spot. warriors need a much younger bench.
I get it confused, too. It is Graham Ike (I key). He didn’t much reason to shoot the 3 at Gonzaga. But, he didn’t have a window of success with it. Bassey is spending the summer working on it.
The reason I bring it up is that Kerr wanted to play Post and Horford together. He eventually played Porzingis and Horford together.

I don’t see why Orlando, your Atlanta, or Charlotte would trade their young franchise player for a couple years of Steph curry. Charlotte, especially after dumping Lamelo, is not a Steph curry away from contending.
These are teams that have never experienced any success in the history of their franchises, especially Atl & Cha. Charlotte would want Curry for so many reasons. He’s prob the most beloved person in city of Charlotte alr even before he plays for the Hornets. Plus they clearly need guard help. Atl has a roster crunch that we need to alleviate if we wanna bring Kuminga back. That trade opens roster spots & opens the floor for Kuminga to have clear driving lanes. Orlando needs shooting more than prob any team in the league. They just exp 2 game 7s where Franz either didn’t show up metaphorically or didn’t show up physically & Bane is clearly ready to win now (so are the Magic, they gave up a chunk of their future just to get Bane).
And back to Charlotte lol they got better by trading LaMelo, esp if they go get a vet pg to replace him (Steph Curry & De’Anthony Melton would apply)

Nope. To many contracts and not enough 1sts. Why would the Warriors want to diminish the shopping they can do next off season? They’ll probably be able to add two players via free agency.

With the caveat that GSW would never publicly admit to interest in trading Steph, they’d have to consider Atl and Orl.
1. Atlanta. Jaylen Johnson Jr and and the two FRP’s, especially expecting that the Pels pick would be high. The Johnson contract is ridiculously team-friendly.
2. Orlando. A distant 2nd to Atlanta. Wagner is better than Johnson, but there would be no value in a pick swap, given that GSW would be in a rebuild and Orland would be a contender.
3. Charlotte. A distant 3rd. Brandon Miller would be a nice piece but way behind Wagner and Johnson. The rest are filler, and there’s no FRP. (Maybe you forgot to include it, given that you had an FRP in the other deals?)
4. Boston. Here you go again with Paul George :–) PG is a “negative” contract. GSW hangs up the phone before Boston offers more.

And compare what Steph did last season to what PGeorge did & compare their salaries. If PGeorge is a neg contract so is Steph. PG is younger, much better defensively & on the boards

Lol it’s not just CJ. They get 2 1sts, 1 of which alr looks extremely attractive. Plus they get a young forward prospect w/ 3yrs left on his rookie contract. And while CJ is obv a downgrade from Steph talent wise. They gave you similar production last yr primarily bc CJ was much healthier & he’s also 4/5yrs younger than Steph.
As far as Boston they’re also not just giving up PGeorge. The next 6yrs of Payton Pritchard & the next 3yrs of Steph are prob gonna be pretty comparable if we look back on em in a decade & it’s very possible (if not probable) that the rest of Pritchard’s career is better than the rest of Steph’s. Plus you get an unprotected 1st in the very next draft & crucially you dont have to rebuild. GSW could compete this season (I’d go after Mathurin if I’m them) w/ Pritchard basically taking Steph’s spot & PG takin Jimmy’s spot. Obv Payton Pritchard isn’t on Steph’s level & the Ws prob wouldn’t be title contenders. But they’d have a competitive team & would have Jimmy coming back & ofc they’d have that 1st rd pick. Ws obv woulda got way more for Steph if they traded him last summer like I said they shoulda but it is what it is.
The Warriors are not trading Steph.
Not sure you’d get much unless Steph says he’ll stay and extend. He becomes a UFA next year anyways.
I’ll be curious to see if Steph signs his extension in August. It’ll say a lot about where the Warriors are.

You dump Leons off the two way contract and sign Ike! It will be mind boggling if they don’t do this. Especially how Ike played for the team in the classic and summer league!
Agreed that Ike makes more sense than Leons, but is Ike truly ready for NBA minutes?
Porzingis and Horford will each miss so many games (about 1/2 if the past is any indication), whoever gets that 4th center position behind Bassey will probably average 12-16 mins per game.
Leons is the better player and the Warriors already have a 69 center named Charles Bassey.

Without another C, you’re expecting Charles Bassey to play 60% of all our minutes at C? That’s about 28 minutes per game on the average.
In the 15 back-to-back games where either Horford and Porzingis can’t play, you’re expecting Bassey to give you 24-32 mpg.
In the games when both Horford and Porzingis are unavailable (probabilistically, that’ll be 20-25 games), Bassey will need to play the entire game.
Fact: Porzingis is a part-time player. He played 32 games last year, 42 and 47 in the years before. Over the last 9 years, he’s averaged less than 42 games per season. He’s reportedly on a minutes restriction (I’m guessing it’s 28 mins).
Fact: Horford is a part-time player. He’s 41 years old, can’t play back-to-backs, and has a minutes restriction of ~24 mins per game.
Maybe Draymond can pitch in, but Kerr said (again) after this season that he didn’t want to that anymore.
Unless GSW adds another legit backup C that can give them 20+ mins per game, we’re screwed. Hello, Omar Yurvetsen.

But 6–9 scrub named Ike? No because they already have a 6–9 scrub named Bassey. Why would they want another 6-9 scrub?
Trembling State needs another big man whether a four or five but a guy who can play and not a two-way candidate like Ike.

We may differ on how well they have the 4 covered. I think that Axel and Draymond are a solid pair, but we lack another player for that position (and we have to assume Draymond won’t play more than 60 games). Maybe they use Santos there, if ncecessary?
We’re still too small for the West. Too many undersized SG’s, not enough length on the wing, not enough size down low.

Well so far so good. Maybe now you will start to understand. What I meant by Yaxel helping Dre, Horford, KP. He helps keep these guys fresher, stronger. Solidifies the bigs rotation. Still need a rim protector. Not sure Bassey can do that.

Yeah he looks ok. Has potential. Still raw but has NBA body already. He’s worth a good look. I would play him in G-league girst. Get the 28 mins a night. Nice pick that late lol.
they need to sign him to a 2 way deal. His defense is real good just needs some time to get confidence and going against big players.

This upcoming Warriors team is deeper and better than last years Lakers team. Yaxel is better than everyone on the Lakers except Luka, and he might be better than him too.
Lajae Jones isn’t a selfless player yet so he should learn it in the g league. He just shouldn’t be a primary ball handler if he’s just going to go for his own shot, Kerr would get him off the court so fast, as he should. So Lajae can stay Santa Cruz until he learns the speed and selfless philosophy
Bassey will do well but as Knickerbocker Al says KP aka “Doctors Note” and “You Can Call Me” Al Horford will be out most of the year so Bassey will need some backup and “More Than Ok” Ike just makes the most sense!

As another sidenote, they say Yackety Yaxel is 6-10. Can’t he play some small ball five? Greymond is 6-6 and did it for years.
Ike I would sign to a 2 way deal just for an emergency big. We may need him since Horford and KP are on the team. Its better than searching the cast off waiver wire like last year.

Dunleavy said Yaxel can defend multiple positions, including small ball 5. In both summer leagues, he was the starting SF. The only healthy SF they have now is Santos. So, it seems pretty logical that Yaxel gets a most of his minutes at SF.
They put a QO on Post and Bassey has been at Chase Center since the season ended. So, it seems safe to say that were going into the season with more big depth than they have ever had.
Ike played really well in the summer leagues. Leons struggled with his shooting. Leons might be gone and Ike will get his 2way spot.
A wild card for later in the season might be Toohey. He wasn’t cleared to play. But, he was with the both summer league teams.
Although he is 6’11”, I think Olbrich is only getting an exhibit contract.
Nobody knows how much KP and Horford are going to play. Do you really trust an anonymous internet poster to make medical decisions?
