Saunders Strongly Considers Coaching Wolves

Wolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders is strongly considering filling the team’s coaching vacancy with himself, reports Marc Stein of Saunders would target Chauncey Billups for an assistant coaching position in that scenario, Stein adds (Twitter links). Billups remains under contract with the Pistons, who hold a $2.5MM team option on him for next season, but he’s indicated that he’s mulling retirement.

The idea of Saunders becoming Minnesota’s head coach next season, reprising the role he had from 1995 to 2005, is not new, but it appears as though the team is circling around to it after failing to gain traction with other coaching candidates.
