Lakers, Lue Working On Contract; Vogel Could Join Him

The Lakers are in negotiations with Tyronn Lue to make the former Cavaliers head coach their new coach, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports.

Lue has not yet accepted the job, as both sides are hammering out contractual parameters, Haynes continues. Former Pacers and Magic assistant Frank Vogel may become the lead assistant if Lue accepts the job, Haynes adds.

‪Kurt Rambis, currently an adviser to owner Jeanie Buss, has played a significant role in the hiring process.

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Lue was the Lakers’ top choice after Sixers assistant Monty Williams opted to become the Suns’ coach. LeBron James‘ former coach reportedly struck an emotional chord during the interview process. Juwan Howard and Jason Kidd were also interviewed for the position.

Thats too much logic. People here seem to think Lue is the 2nd coming of the devil and they finished in last place every year. You would never think they went 3/3 on making the finals

in front of a room full of basketball executives he impressed with his basketball acumen and has a track record of success with LeBron. He isnt some lackey who follows behind with Lebron’s luggage. He played on 2 championship winning LAKERS teams as a back up point guard, while PHIL JACKSON was coaching.

How does everyone get this so twisted that this is about Lebron having control?! if anything Lebron has stayed out of the process BECAUSE of he perceives the negative public perception he has. All that said I would have rather had Monty Williams who I believe would play a bigger role in developing the Lakers young talent. oh well. This team was 4th best in the West before Xmas. They were then DECIMATED by injuries or they WOULD HAVE made the playoffs.

  1. This whole franchise has careened downhill like a 1974 pinto wagon with the brake lines cut since Jerry West left.

2 titles and 4 finals trips since he left yet thats considered a 1974 car without brakes.

      • Won mostly with the players Jerry left behind. Oh, don’t forget he threw them a champ clinching Gasol bone after he left.

I would like to see all of you haters faces when Coach Lue gets the lakers back into contention. Go Lakers this coming free agency and prove the doubters wrong.

My money is on Lue taking Rambis and/or Pelinka to the cleaners right now since there is zero competition. He’s alright I guess, but c’mon he also isn’t that great. His only experience was with LBJ in his prime, which doesn’t need a lot of coaching.

This Lakers Team shows that without Lebron having a sidekick that are not a playoff team. I can hear em now…. but Labron got hurt. Lonzo was hurt blah blah blah. Lakers are better off without Lonzo and Magic was trying to right is mistakes by sending him out for AD.

Lue is a good hire to manage LeBore. He is a very good logistics minded coach. If they where smart they would throw big
bucks at Juwan Howard for the #1 Asst Coach. His defensive skill set and respect from LeBore would be excellent. Plus he would be a great backup if Lue has more health issues.
Get these two hires inked, fire Pelinka and then go get a top end President and GM.
Alas, Romper Room will continue. Maybe they can buy Ms June’s Magic Mirror to see the right next players to go get.
