Western Notes: Warriors, Hill, Doncic, Pelicans

Warriors head of basketball operations Bob Myers offered assurances that his team will be in a competitive mode if play resumes this season, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN reports. Coach Steve Kerr raised some eyebrows last week when he said the franchise was already in “offseason mode.” But Myers indicated his team will give its best. “The truth is we have the worst record in the league. … It’s hard to motivate in our unique position,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean players don’t have pride and won’t come back and play and care about the league as a whole. We want to be good partners and we will be good partners.”

We have more from the Western Conference:

  • The Clippers won’t allow assistant Armond Hill to coach when the team reopens its practice facility, according to The Athletic’s David Aldridge. Hill is the team’s oldest coach at 67 and head coach Doc Rivers doesn’t want to put him at immediate risk. “He wants to go work,” Rivers said. “And I said, ‘Well, I understand that. But we’re not going to let you do it. We just can’t. I can’t live with that.’”
  • Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic flew home to Slovenia on a private jet shortly after the NBA suspended the season, Shelburne reveals in a separate story. Doncic will have to go into quarantine once he returns to the U.S., though domestic players who flew out of state during the shutdown will also have to quarantine.
  • Meyers LeonardJaMychal Green and Alex Len are some of the free agent targets the Pelicans could explore to fortify their frontcourt, William Guillory of The Athletic opines. New Orleans could also pursue a deal for the Nets’ Jarrett Allen if Brooklyn decides to make DeAndre Jordan its starting center, Guillory adds.

Pel fans want better players already? Having a hard time replacing Jrue or Favors?– they haven’t left yet.

Hopefully they will leave, NOP desperately needs to get rid of Jrue, also Favors must go, hence why they looking for centers moving forward. The backcourt must be Zo’s, Jrue is only delaying & slowing their progress, after all he isn’t even that good, although he is getting pretty old.

      • Jrue old and not very good?! Wrong as usual El Don.

20,5,7, with his highest per game steal ever average (1.7) of his career and shooting percentages that meet his historical numbers. Oh, and he’s 29.

To say the Pels should move on to let Zo run the backcourt is one thing, to say it’s partially for the reason that Jrue is not good and old is just silly.

        • Simmons>Russ

Agree with you Greg, Jrue Holiday is still a great player. He’s easily a top 10 defender, a top 20 passer and gets you buckets and rebounds also. He can play either guard position and at 29 still has probably 3/4 really good years left

  2. What overachievers those Warriors are. If they can’t be the best in the sport, they will aspire to be the worst. Anything to standout from the crowd as much as possible.

wow, you’re jealousy is showing. and what pathetic no championship franchise do you root for?

take the 2 best players off any team, lose another to FA, a key role player to cap crunch, and a rotation player to retirement and see what happens to their record as well.

they hate us cuz they aint us.

      • my team has a chip, thanks, and it was just kidding around.

I am surprised you didn’t just flatly say “thanks for recognizing the greatness of being the best. lalala, GS rules!” yes, they have achieved great heights, and fallen on hard times, and a lot had to do with circumstances that were either fortunate or unfortunate.

just saying they have extremes, no need to be insecure. leave that for Knicks fans. real sad sacks.

    • Did you say the same things about the Cavs after they lost LeBron? How about the Lakers after they lost Kobe? Warriors all 3 all stars from a year ago were gone. On top of that half the team was injured playing at one time 8 G league players. SMH

Kobe hang around for 6 years after winning, made the team a non-playoff one. Shaq & Pau won the rings, he was a great compliment for them, that’s for sure!
