Sixers’ Embiid Out Tuesday, Simmons Undergoes Surgery

The Sixers issued a pair of injury updates on their two star players this afternoon, indicating that center Joel Embiid (left ankle) will miss Tuesday’s game vs. Phoenix, while guard/forward Ben Simmons underwent successful surgery in Philadelphia to remove a loose body from his left knee (Twitter links via Derek Bodner of The Athletic and Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer).

Simmons, whose procedure had been reported over the weekend, will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Sixers indicated in today’s announcement. However, the expectation is that the former No. 1 overall pick will likely miss the rest of the season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).

While Simmons’ outlook for the remainder of 2019/20 isn’t good, there’s optimism that Embiid’s ankle injury isn’t serious and that he’ll be back soon, Wojnarowski tweets. Even after tomorrow’s game, the 76ers have two more seeding contests on Wednesday and Friday, so Embiid will have a couple more opportunities to suit up before the playoffs begin next week.

Embiid’s unavailability for Tuesday is good news for the Suns, who are 6-0 in the bubble and are pushing hard to participate in a play-in tournament for the final postseason spot in the West. According to Bodner (Twitter link), Josh Richardson will also miss Tuesday’s game for rest purposes, while Al Horford (left knee soreness) and Tobias Harris (right ankle soreness) are considered questionable.

You must’ve pulled a hammy with that bandwagon jump. Way to go El D! Who’ll be the flavor of the month next week?

As for your former crush, 1983 and counting vs 17 WC banners. .

PHI had 100% beaten the historically pathetic BOS in the R1EC this year but… no Simmons ain’t gonna happen now, unless Embiid becomes his superhuman version, if he does then BOS will have been the worst playoff team ever!

Look bostondanasty I am not one of those fans who follow a team, that I do found a bit sad, but is up to each one. I do follow players, & I love wactching Simmons/Embiid, hence I like PHI, if they left the team I ain’t gonna like them anymore, but I would like the team were they go, as simple as.
I always have loved D-Book, so I like PHO (also I do like a lot Ayton, the guy is an absolute beast)
You see I follow players not teams, teams are just a name in a place, easily interchangeable, meanwhile the players run the show, as a matter of fact they are the show.
Right now I like PHI, ATL, MIL, HOU, DAL, NOP, MIN, DEN, LAL & PHO, so you can easily guess which are my favorite players.
So you don’t have to keep banging at me about PHI not winning a ring, I don’t really care, in fact I would rather Embiid wins the MVP than PHI a ring if true be told!

Yeah, you’re a bandwagon jumper. No allegiance to a team. Like I said.

Real sad if you ask me to follow a team, as you saw in my list I follow a number of losing teams, as I don’t care if they win or not, I just care about players… but of course it is way too much for someone like you to understand, so keep thinkin’ I am a PHI fan, if it makes you happy! Have a nice morning!

Already on to the offseason. Without Simmons this isn’t going to happen. Would love to be optimistic but other teams would have to have serious meltdowns or injuries. If they somehow go deep, Simmons coming back just reminds me of Durant coming back against better judgment.

If they don’t trade Horford + 1’s for a shooter in the offseason, 20-21 is a wasted season. Buddy Hield and LaVine are probably the only realistic targets or a sign and trade for Gallinari.

That and they need to draft someone that already can shoot. Zhaire was such a project. If you are a playoff team you don’t have time to develop a project player. They went shooter with Shamet but he’s no longere here. Huerter and Holiday were on the board. They passed on MPJ with the Bridges trade. And while Thybulle will be a decent role player, Clarke goes right behind him and looks a lot better. Their 2nd round picks were all throw aways, when they could have taken a shot on Bol Bol.

Horford sucks this year. Harris is carrying the offense currently, as the Milton experiment hasn’t worked out as well as initially anticipated
