Los Angeles Notes: Bradley, Mannion, DeRozan, Westbrook

Avery Bradley, who has a decision to make on his player option, is changing reps and plans to sign with Charles Briscoe, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets. The Lakers guard, who chose not to play during the restart, can become an unrestricted free agent if he declines the $5MM in the final year of his contract. Bradley averaged 8.6 PPG last season and started 44 of 49 games before play was halted in March. He turns 30 later this month.

We have more on the Los Angeles teams:

  • The Lakers, who hold the No. 28 pick in Wednesday’s draft, worked out University of Arizona point man Nico Mannion on Tuesday in Arizona, Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times tweets. GM Rob Pelinka was among the Lakers’ reps who attended the workout. Mannion, who averaged 14.0 PPG and 5.3 APG as a freshman last season, is currently ranked No. 25 on ESPN’s Best Available list.
  • The Lakers are reportedly interested in Spurs swingman DeMar DeRozan despite his $27.7MM cap hit and Jordan Greer of Sporting News believes he would be a good fit. DeRozan’s ability as a playmaker would give the Lakers another proven scorer when LeBron James and Anthony Davis aren’t sharing the court. DeRozan’s defensive shortcomings could be masked by a combination of the coaching staff’s schemes and Anthony Davis‘ shot-blocking, Greer adds.
  • Russell Westbrook would give the Clippers a third star but they shouldn’t pursue a deal for the disgruntled Rockets guard, Jovan Buha of The Athletic opines. Westbrook is a ball-dominant guard whose efficiency has waned in recent seasons, Buha notes. He’s not an off-the-ball threat, as he made just 25.8% of his 3-point attempts last season, allowing defenders to sag off him. Trading for his contract would also force the Clippers to gut their roster to match salaries, Buha said.

To trade for Westbrook, no one will offer better package than Clippers

Who should the Lakers let go?
    My assumption
    KCP want 4 years contract
    Bradley want 4 years contract
    Rondo wants cash
    Morris wants cash
    Howard wants MLE

5 of them have player options and the only one likely to opt in is McGee. Morris, Dudley, Waiters, and Howard are all free agents so it looks like there will be a huge overhaul for the Lakers roster next season.

        So. Many. Difference. Makers.

No matter, they will still SPANK the Rockets.

    • Sillivan

If trade Green Kuzma Cook for DeRozan
      Lakers team salary 125m
Then add Ibaka 9m and hard capped
All 5 free agents have to take vet min

It doesn’t matter if you are KCP or Bradley

      • Tatsumaki

Only vets that would take mins are probably Howard/cousins. Kcp and rondo want to be paid.

I’m guessing yes, but because its unprecedented I’m not 100 percent sure. Since Bradley chose to sit out the restart, does he get a ring?

    • It’s up to the Lakers and I think I read somewhere that they were going to give him one.

      • the dude

I think it’s fair personally, he had a good reason. Wasnt Davis bertans. I just wasnt sure

I’m confused, I thought it was Lebron who was the LAKERS GM ……… it turns out, it’s some guy named Rob Pelinka.

    • the dude

If it was Cleveland I would agree, but other than lebrons blatant recruiting of AD he hasnt politicked nearly as much as people give him credit for. He even said he wasnt personally pursuing JR, the brass were to make him happy.

Honestly I dont think he would have wanted dion or even markieff, though markieff proved himself.

Don’t be naive, just because LeBron isnt publicly recruiting guys like he did in Cleveland, that doesnt mean he isn’t pulling alot of the strings behind the scenes..

DeRozan isnt a defensive stalwart, and he can’t shoot 3s. Not seeing a fit other than he can score as a volume shooter. Last year’s uber efficiency is the anomaly 53% vs career 45%.

    • Tatsumaki

48 percent last year 53 this year using career numbers is misleading because it waters down how good he is the last 3/4 years.

      • phillyballers

His last 3 years = 46% vs shooting 53% year.

If you add in another year the % goes down more. So like said, anomaly.

Derozan is a huge contract to take on. I’d hope he opts out but I doubt he does that. The Lakers need to get off of Greens contract along with Kuzma. If they can clear that maybe they could go get Jerami Grant. I would like to see them bring Rondo back along with Morris and Howard. If KCP is reasonable then yes but if not maybe do a sign and trade that brings back something significant like maybe a Zach Lavine or try to grab Robert Covington from the Rockets. As far as free agent signings go: I’d go try to sign Austin Rivers to run the point and 2 at times. Give Demarcus Cousins a vet minimum prove it deal. Sign Justin Holiday for scoring and shooting. Sign Glen Robinson III for shooting. Trey Burke as your 3rd guard in place of Quinn Cook
