All-Star Mavericks guard Luka Doncic will be sidelined for “multiple games” as a result of a sore left ankle, starting tonight against the Thunder, per Marc Stein of the Stein Line (Twitter link).
Stein adds that Dallas does not yet know when Doncic might return. He will miss his fifth game of the 2021/22 NBA season.
Doncic, who apparently entered the team’s training camp out of shape, has nevertheless enjoyed a solid season when available, averaging 25.6 PPG, 8.5 APG and 8.0 RPG across 21 games.
At 12-13, the Mavericks are currently the eighth seed in the Western Conference. The club is just 3-7 across its last ten contests, and without its best player in the lineup could sink further down the standings soon.
Terrible situation in Dallas. They are stuck in every sense. They can’t improve the team without making worse than it already is. They only have the option of moving laterally. They need to move KP but who is dumb enough to not only take on KP, his contract and constant injury, but dish out a player who can impact the team as much as needed? Who I ask?!?
True and true. The only assets (outside of KP and Luka) they have is Brunson and Hardaway.
Dallas would find trade partners for them but for whom and would it better the team. There are posters here that think KP is gone this or after the season. But i don’t think Cuban would swallow his pride to do so… then again maybe he does.
Who would have thought that trotting out the (largely) same team for the 3rd year in a row wouldn’t work?

KP needs 35-40 LBs. So he can play real C. He can still play outside. But wouldn’t get hurt now. Thin long guys can’t bang. At 7’ 3” his only position is center. So why keep avoiding it.
While also downgrading at HC. Some 4D chess right there.
The good news is that the Mavs have several years to get this right as they build around Doncic. The bad news is that recent history suggests their player decisions are lacking big time. The Mavs really do have below average talent. They lack speed and length. Their perimeter shooters are so-so. They really don’t do anything great. The Porzingis move is obviously looking awful but at the time, I thought it was kind of bold.
How fat the guy got in the off season should be a big concern for the Mavs. Just like Williamson they need a food expert to show them how to eat.
