In his latest 2022 mock draft, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony (Insider link) still has Jabari Smith going to the Magic, Chet Holmgren to the Thunder, and Paolo Banchero to the Rockets.
Givony says the Magic continue to cast a wide net as they evaluate their options at No. 1, but rival executives “overwhelmingly” expect them to ultimately land on Smith. The Rockets, meanwhile, watched Banchero work out in Memphis and then brought him to Houston for an individual workout, according to Givony, who writes that the team seems “high on (his) talent, skill, and fit.”
While Givony’s newest mock doesn’t include a shake-up in the top three, there are some changes elsewhere in the lottery and further down in the first round. ESPN’s draft guru also shares a handful of draft-related tidbits. Here are some of the highlights:
- According to Givony, Keegan Murray‘s chances of being the No. 4 pick may be gaining momentum, since Kings owner Vivek Ranadive and incoming head coach Mike Brown reportedly like him and Sacramento isn’t Jaden Ivey‘s preferred landing spot. However, Givony notes that the Kings have been willing in past years to draft players they haven’t worked out — plus, the pick is considered to be available via trade if there’s a team that wants to move up to snag Ivey.
- Although Shaedon Sharpe is viewed as a legitimate candidate to be selected at No. 5 by the Pistons, he didn’t separate himself in a recent 3-on-3 workout that also included Bennedict Mathurin and Dyson Daniels, Givony writes. ESPN’s new mock has Mathurin and Daniels going sixth and seventh overall, ahead of Sharpe at No. 8.
- The Wizards‘ lottery pick (No. 10) is widely thought to be available in a deal that would send a “proven backcourt player” to D.C., per Givony.
- The Thunder are reportedly looking to trade up from No. 12 to acquire another pick in the top half of the lottery, according to Givony, who says Ivey and Sharpe may be among Oklahoma City’s targets.
- Rival teams don’t believe the Hornets will keep both the 13th and 15th overall picks. Givony has also heard from rival clubs that the Bulls don’t love their options at No. 18 and are open to trading that pick, possibly in a package with guard Coby White.

18th pick and Coby White for KCP? Who says no? Bulls need a defensive perimeter guard who can shoot the 3. KCP is very affordable with $14M with his last deal.
Then go and sign Ingles even though he’s coming off a torn ACL and then sign Whiteside for a backup defensive oriented center. Also, trade for JaMychal Green for a stretch 4.
Need to address size, interior/perimeter defense along with shooting. I’m convinced DJJ will be gone because he’s played over his market value and will be difficult to resign.
Would the Bulls really overpay Ingles?
Portland said they want to resign him and in interviews he said he kind of feels obligated to explore the option.
Utah would sign him back in a heartbeat for the right price and he lives just outside of Salt Lake. He also said in the same interview that’s he’d be torn on whether to leave as his wife is involved in the community and his kids are enrolled in school and would have to leave behind their friends.
Ingles already has millions and doesn’t strike me as the type that would be lured away by a few hundred thousand dollars.
I think Ingles injury situation really makes the situation seem unpredictable. He could go for winning and join a team like Dallas or go back to Utah and run it back? I personally would LOVE him here in Chicago. He doesn’t need the ball to be effective here with LaVine and DDR and Vu as the main scorers. It would be a perfect fit for a need that we need.
Trade isn’t possible for salary purposes. Need to add another 5.5 million to white for the trade to work. I guess if they include Jones jr, but now you are talking about two productive players and a 1st for a role player
How exactly do you include a player in a trade who is an UFA? Inquiring minds want to know. I mean LaVine in a sign and trade makes sense because he can get paid a lot more, But why would Jones sign and then be traded? Where do you guys dream this crap up? You’re just spewing nonsense.
Wow uncle Mike, sorry to strike a nerve. I don’t have a dog in this race and think the OP trade was not well thought out because it could not work from salary matching purposes. I didn’t realize jones was a ufa, just saw his salary and not being a core member making him the only logical trade piece…but even said that it wasn’t smart. Attacking me for bringing basic salary cap trade rules to the table, hope you feel good about yourself. And Maybe jones would accept a sign and trade because he can get more money than on the open market…ask Kevin Garnett, anything is possible. Like maybe you not acting like a pompous turd
Dude it’s raz427’s plan. Maybe he will appreciate the support.
Agree with there being financial issues.
You could trade Troy Brown back to the Wizards. He’s making $7.7M next year with a player option. I totally forgot about the salary cap in this post, my bad.
Coby White + Troy Brown + 18th pick for KCP.
Salaries would match then.
18 and White for Thybulle and Isaiah Joe
This team needs MORE shooting and you’re getting back a guy who can’t even shoot 33% from 3’s in his career? You must be a 76ers fan. Absolute trash of an offer lol.
Hey now…I graciously included Isaiah Joe to help address shooting. He only needs to add about 15 pounds to make a rotation and then the sky’s the limit.
Nobody wants Thybulle or Joe. I would think 76ers need to offer an unprotected first if that’s the offer Bulls take. Neither of them have upside offensively that White has already.
Trash offer? Thybulle is all nba defense lol. You can say you don’t like the offer but it’s far from trash. What has white done besides be a league average player? Terrible defender but can shoot. For a team in dire need of shooters, why trade white?
All your ideas are trash I’m sorry to say.
I appreciate your valuable insight. Did I steal your girlfriend or something? What’s with the attacks dog?
A good offensive player who struggles on D is still useful. A good defensive player who can’t score is not, unless he’s a rim protecting center. That’s how the NBA works.
Draymond green says high
Draymond Green is what you got? Draymond averages like almost triple double and score a lot more if he WANTED to. But since he’s best at what he does he lets the other scorers take care of it, Wow. And you couldn’t steal my Girlfriend she values intelligence which kinda leaves you out in the cold.
I am glad I have established a second residence living in your head rent free. There is a lot of space in here, should be careful questioning others intelligence
Well said Seam. It’s the new NBA now. Play little defense and be a scorer.
Star Value as 100
#18 value is 60 (4 years)
KCP value is 30 (1 year)
Thybulle is 40
The important thing is that of all the topics in this post, we are only talking about the Bulls. Bulls are back to being relevant and the NBA is better because of it.
