Mavericks star Luka Doncic received his 16th technical foul of the season on Sunday, Tim MacMahon of ESPN tweets. Unless it’s rescinded by the league, Doncic will have to serve a one-game suspension for excessive technicals.
Doncic was T’d up after complaining about a no-call during the third quarter of Dallas’ 110-104 loss at Charlotte. The Mavericks play against Indiana on Monday night.
After the game, crew chief Kevin Scott said the officials made the right call in assessing a technical foul on Doncic because he used profane language, Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News reports.
“Doncic was assessed a technical foul for his use of profanity directed at the officials in protest to a no-call that was correctly judged in postgame video review,” Scott said.
Kyrie Irving and coach Jason Kidd hope the technical is rescinded. “I don’t want to get fined for saying that, but I just don’t think it was warranted,” Irving said.
Doncic did not address the media after the game.
If the technical is upheld, Doncic would face an additional one-game suspension if he collects two more technicals before the regular season ends.
Doncic expressed his frustration on Friday over the way the team’s season has played out. He was fined $35K on Wednesday for “directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture” toward a referee during the closing seconds of the team’s loss to Golden State on Wednesday.
The Mavs are currently 11th in the Western Conference and saddled with a four-game losing streak.

So many people said this was going to be amazing having these two paired up. I said the 2 egos wouldn’t allow it and my buddies crapped all over that. Living in Sacramento though I’m used to my basketball opinion not mattering much but the surprising thing is Kyrie has actually seemed to have really tried here. Luka has behaved like always aka he’s a brat. Vlade will always be remembered for his assist to BOB and not drafting Doncic which yes was beyond horrible but he DID have his reasons and Lukas attitude was a big part of it. The media had the story about 30% correct as to why but I’ve been surprised by Kyrie. This is on Luka and he needs to grow up. He will not by the way. He is his fathers son and that’s a shame .
I don’t think it’s the egos so much as it is gutting the defense and being dumb enough to make the trade without also getting a legitimate defensive-minded center at the deadline. It’s the type of trade a casual would make because TwO StArS tOgEtHeR.
(Not that those two don’t have huge egos and prima donna tendencies)
At this point I think he is just trying to sit and miss games since the team is so bad. Adding uncle drew was such a dumb move.

Doncic looks miserable every game from the jump to the end. He can hoop, but needs to stop with the diva attitude.
Especially when he isn’t blameless, as he was a major part of the decision to hire Kidd. Not that the roster doesn’t have its flaws, but there’s no question he’s made things worse.

In a few months Luka has gone from must-watch to better-avoid. He used to smile and joke with everyone, now he’s always miserable and complaining on every single play, offense or defence. It’s akin to the European football style of surrounding the ref all the time. I used to look forward to my lunch break Mavs game, not I don’t bother downloading the games anymore.
Losing doesn’t make it easy on anyone, but do grow up please: losing is part of sport. Such an exceptional talent deserved to be seen, not avoided in disgust.
He must be starting to realise that as long as Mark from Cuba is the owner the Mavs aren’t going anywhere near the finals…

If you know Luka’s story. He turned pro at like 13 years-old. Had a really tight bond with his mom who was with him all the time ….. Well things have changed. Luka currently has a lawsuit against his mom I believe for use of his Name, Image and Likeness …. This guy is dealing with some things right now.
It’s just Luka and his girlfriend now, who he has been with since he was 16. Dallas traded away Dorian Finley-Smith and Boban, and lost Brunson in free agency. Luka’s three best friends on the team.
