The NBA is looking into allegations made against Thunder guard Josh Giddey, league spokesperson Mike Bass said today (Twitter links via Chris Mannix of SI.com and Shams Charania of The Athletic).
A series of videos and photos went viral on social media this week accusing Giddey, who turned 21 last month, of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a minor.
Giddey was asked during a media session on Friday about the allegations and declined to address them, telling reporters, “I understand the question, obviously, but there’s no further comment right now” (Twitter video link via Rylan Stiles of Locked on Thunder).
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault also rebuffed questions about the situation on Friday when he was asked about is being a possible distraction, referring to it as a “personal matter” and declining to comment (Twitter video link via Stiles).
There’s no indication to this point that Giddey won’t continue to be available for the Thunder while the NBA’s investigation is ongoing. He has started each of Oklahoma City’s 15 games so far, averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 27.2 minutes per night for the 11-4 club.

“No comment” is a prototypical response to any allegation (true or not). When youre facing legal stuff; less you say the better. No comment isnt an admission of guilt.
Like everything else we should wait till all facts are present. Which could take years.

Not when you have done nothing wrong. “No Comment” only comes when you don’t want to say anything to hurt your case legally, or with your NBA contract, when you know their are facts pertaining to your situation that could cause you great harm.

Bro, this is a serious issue. Makes sense for a news agency to deal with the reporting caefully.
As is the case with basically every other off-court situation like this involving an NBA player, we were waiting for something more reliable than anonymous social media posts (e.g. a team/league investigation, reporting from a reliable outlet, a police report, etc.) before publishing a story.
We also didn’t publish posts about the Ja Morant videos earlier this year until the NBA confirmed it was investigating them, for instance. If you go back through our archives, you can probably find many other examples.
I know we have “rumors” in our name, but we want to handle this type of story the right way rather than just throwing s–t at the wall.

I keep seeing conflicting stuff with this, one article says it’s an Australian IG model that has been with him for years and is 17 and the report was the videos were from her visiting him in Louisiana or something, which makes it difficult as it’s technically illegal by the law, but by their own laws of nationality it’s not actually illegal. and yet another report claimed she’s American and 15.

21 makes you legal for alcohol. 18 will get you put in jail for alcohol and relations with minors who have not reached the age of consent.

Josh Giddey can get at pretty much ANY woman in Australia that he wants. Same thing probably holds true in the United States once a woman see’s what his contract is. He WAS set for a max deal, but he has been borderline bad all year, and now this. If it ends his career like Wander Franco’s girlfriend did ….
