Former NBA center Andrew Bogut has been named an assistant coach on Brian Goorjian‘s Sydney Kings coaching staff, according to the official site of Australia’s National Basketball League.
Bogut, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft, spent 14 seasons in the league, appearing in over 700 regular season games and averaging 9.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per contest. He made an All-NBA team in 2010 and an All-Defensive team in 2015 in addition to winning a championship with the Warriors in 2015.
An Australian native, Bogut also has an extensive history with the Sydney Kings. He was named the NBL’s Most Valuable Player and Best Defensive Player in 2019 as a member of the Kings and later became part of the club’s ownership group.
Bogut remains a part-owner of the Kings, but after retiring as a player in 2020, he was eager to get more involved with the on-court product.
“Being away from the game for five years, the itch to get back on the court was growing stronger with time,” Bogut said. “I’m honored to step into this position and work alongside Brian. Coaching is something I’m passionate about, and I can’t wait to help drive this team forward.”
“Being a three-time Olympian and an NBA champion, Andrew has a blue-chip pedigree,” said Goorjian, Australia’s former national team coach. “His knowledge of the game is elite and I know he will be a very valuable addition to our coaching staff.”
While Bogut seems content living and working in his home country, it will be interesting to see if the 40-year-old’s fledgling coaching career develops to the point that he’d consider returning stateside and joining an NBA franchise.
Go kings
Bogut was a rea l big, a true center. Went to playoffs 5yrs. 4 with Warriors. Avg 15.2 mins in playoffs for his career. All of you who think Warriors are small. Don’t know what they did. He wasn’t the only Center they had. Its called matching up. Warriors also were one of top defensive teams when they with real Bigs.
So to defend them now for not using bigs. Or not carry 2 (7’) footers. Rim protector rebounder. Is overlooking hiw they won chips. You win as a team. Depth and matching up. Is what a good team does. Kerr and Warriors blew it with Wiseman. Now they are blowing their chance of picking up a C. For the playoffs. Warrior fans cry so much here. Yet something as simple as this . Alluded them. Its not Rocket science. Adding one player is not a big deal on a 12 man roster.
Bogut played limited but important minutes for the Warriors. Some haters call these excuses but when Bogut was injured in 2016 finals for Games 6 and 7, Warriors had no inside presence and they were hammered by Cavs on the boards. Bogut’s absence was felt.
No, no, no…What screwed them up big man wise was the salary cap, unexpectedly winning in ’22, and injuries. You can’t expect to compete with some stiff from off the street.
Warriors don’t need anything, Al. You know they have everything they need right now, just wait for the next Pacific article, you’ll see. Draymond at the 5 and strong play from Spencer, Post, Santos, and Kevin Knox has the Warriors guaranteed another ring, lol. Team of the century. The GOAT clutch player of all time in Steph. Jimmy has completly changed the culture of the team to the point they’re waxing all the lottery teams jockeying for position in the tankathon quite easily atm.
Your comment would make sense if it had some basis in reality. Against those same lottery teams, the Warriors offense was getting worse by the game. Their defense was the only thing keeping them in games. They were a sub .500 club against those same lottery teams. With Butler, they are giving up fewer points and a positive point differential of 12. Curry is not getting double teamed anymore. They were already 3rd in the league in rebounding. I doubt Vucevic could have done better. He is still learning the team, and they are learning him. So, they could get better.
Knicker I’ve read dozens of your posts(at least) over the years and I can honestly say that was by far the least coherent. were you drinking tonight? I think I got the gyst of what you were saying and agree with you (as I often do), but it feels like you were drunk typing. not your best effort.
