Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga will miss his seventh consecutive game on Wednesday against the Rockets due to knee tendinitis. He told ESPN’s Anthony Slater he’ll be back in action “soon” (Twitter link).
Kuminga participated in some 3-on-3 scrimmages during Tuesday’s practice and will scrimmage on Wednesday as well. Warriors beat writer Monte Poole tweets.
Kuminga had played well prior to the injury, averaging 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Al Horford also won’t play on Wednesday due to a nerve issue.
We have more on the Warriors:
- Draymond Green has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday’s game, Slater tweets. Green sat out Monday’s 17-point win over the Jazz due to a foot sprain. Green holds a $27.7MM player option next offseason on the final year of his contract.
- Jimmy Butler had a highly efficient outing against Utah. He was a plus-19 in 28 minutes, scoring 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting with six rebounds and seven assists, Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area notes. Meanwhile, Lauri Markkanen — one of the players the Warriors coveted prior to last season before trading for Butler last winter — scored just 17 points on 31.6% shooting with smaller players guarding him. The game provided a reminder of why the Warriors have no regrets about taking their big trade-market swing on Butler, Johnson writes.
- In case you missed it, the Warriors now have enough room below their hard cap to sign a 15th man. However, every day they put off doing so creates a little more flexibility below that threshold.
Green is going to have a bankable game tomorrow
The new Warriors promo ads feature Steph, Jimmy and Al Horford. No Draymond, no Kuminga, who they both have literally more money invested in. Makes no sense, unless both are headed out, which is one way GSW could bring in another high paid superstar.
It’s either “add Jimmy” or “trade both Dray and JK” to get another superstar. The fact Dray and JK are both missing time right now is much more likely to preserve their trade value. Buddy Hield started shooting but he could be on the way out too. Including up to 6 FRP, the Warriors have a lot of flexibility in any potential deal, which makes me think Giannis will be on the way. Personally I would love Zubac or Bam, if no Giannis.
Buddy is so dang streaky as a shooter. It’s crazy that for stretches of time he can be one of the best snipers in the NBA and other times looks like Marcus Smart.
What actually makes sense is that Dray and JK are both injured. Since they can’t trade JK until January 15th, your thinking this is about his trade value is hard to understand, considering that every game he misses lowers his trade value.
There’s almost no chance that Giannis would choose GSW, the Heat would never trade Bam, so maybe MDJ can try to get Zubac.
More importantly. What do promo ads have to do with personell decisions.
Remind us all, Next Generation Davey J, as to who on this platform was pushing all summer long for Kuminga and Draymond (not Jimmy) to be the centerpieces leaving the Warriors in a trade proposal for a MONSTER player in return (namely Giannis)? Go back and read the Giannis-articles-comment sections if you don’t remember.
What in my post makes you think I said the trade will happen before Jan 15? Kuminga is a young player, he isn’t out for the year, he is sitting out until Jan 15, then he will probably play 1 game then get traded.
You should really reply to the things I actually write, and not make up things to win upvotes by the same 4-5 haters I have on here. Lying is bad. You are better than this.
What makes you think any team would trade for a player who has been out 2 months due to a knee injury? Unless it is an expiring contract, no team is going to do that. Kuminga had regressed his last week on the floor.
There’s zero chance that Kuminga won’t play until January 15th (quote from yesterday):
“He did three-on-three before practice, and that went well. Then he took part in all of practice,” Kerr said. “Tomorrow he will scrimmage; he won’t play in the game tomorrow, but he will take part in a five-on-five scrimmage tomorrow evening before our game. And that’ll give us a good gauge for where he is.”
Ok lets see what happens! He might play 1 game then miss another 10, and then do that again, then the trade happens. I do not have a crystal ball, but it appears Kerr has run another young star out of town by his mismanagement of him.
Bottom line: Kuminga or Green should be in these team promo commercials instead of Al Horford. They have more money invested in them. They aren’t there because they will not be on the roster by game 82.
Sure, or he “might” play every game until the deadline.
I’m sure that he’s aware that to get traded he needs to increase his value, and being injured does the opposite.
How can he increase his value playing 18 mins a game with 2way guys and GP2?
What do promo commercials have to do with the roster?
No draymond + kuminfa trade will yield enough results to get any player/s more productive than them right now, and any combination of picks isn’t the Warriors goal now, as they look to maximize Steph’s championship window.
Factually untrue.
Draymond+Kuminga = Sabonis.
good analysis 2.0….lets get Seth Curry going for some new blood
There is a good article on CSN Bay Area about the Warriors current woes. They emphasized it their most recent practice. KYP – know your personell. The players have not been focused on their assignments. It shows up in their lack of rebounding and high amount of turnovers. Kerr lit into them on this during the Utah game. It is how they won. They were way behind and turned it into a route.
I thought they would be way better.
Teams do lose their focus sometimes. Players don’t always execute like they are supposed to.
Funny. Markkanen struggled to score against the Warriors while being guarded by smaller players. Size doesn’t mean anything if you don’t execute.
27.7 million for Draymond Green.
In 2026.
There is no way a sane person thinks thats acceptable.
4 rings and their best defensive player say otherwise. Draymond has brought a lot to the franchise. I doubt Lacob has any problem signing that check.
I dont mind it, its not my money
But dont pretend you can build a championship winning team in 2025 paying Draymond Green 27 million.
If you want to reward him for what he did, ok but also come to terms that that means you will not be competing for a ring.
Ok. Name a player that can replace Draymond and bring the same things he does to the table.
27M today and tomorrow is basically a level above the mid-level nowadays. He’s currently ranked 69th which sounds about right tbh.
Draymond has done a lot of silly stuff to cost warriors. However i think he keeps everything together. If he wasnt on this team i think steph would suffer. Draymond screens really well. Makes good decisions and plays amazing defense and rebounds well for his size. Most of all he protects steph. Nobody messes with Steph cause of Draymond and he’s a better facilitator than steph. Steph is amazing but i think Draymond compliments him in ways that helps him play free the way he wants. They both need each other and would look slightly worse without the other.
How is he a better facilitator than Steph?
You should ask Steph about that. He called Draymond the heart of the team.
Apg comparison:
Draymond 5.9, Butler 4.9, Steph 4.0
No salary limit:
Bam, Jokic, Sabonis, Giannis, Scottie Barnes, Isaiah Hartenstein, Sengun
With salary limitation:
Ben Simmons, Kyle Anderson, Bruce Brown, Grant Williams, Trendon Watford
All these guys could replace Draymond and the Warriors wouldnt feel a thing.
The Warriors had Kyle Anderson. He didn’t break into the rotation.
When you compare to how much money his antics generate via online posting and ads…is almost nothing.
People like you have no clue how the players who play the game deserve as much of the pie as possible. Your thought process only ever rewards team owners, who are all billionaire grifters. Be better, chatter.
