Stephen Curry has been sidelined since January 30 with a lingering right knee injury, leading to some outside speculation whether the 37-year-old star should be shut down for the rest of the season. Warriors teammate Draymond Green addressed that topic on his latest podcast and determined that it’s unlikely to happen, relays Eden Collier of NBC Sports Bay Area.
“He was preparing to come back in the season where we had won 15 games (in 2019/20),” Green said. “So I say that from experience when I say, he’s not just going to shut it down just to shut it down. It’s not who he is.”
Golden State has been reeling without its top scorer, falling to 31-30 and just barely holding onto eighth place in the West. A return may still be far away, as the team announced on Sunday that Curry won’t be reevaluated for 10 more days and his absence may extend beyond that point. Green assured listeners that owner Joe Lacob would never endorse tanking, but he also acknowledged that it’s hard to run an effective offense without Curry and Jimmy Butler, who was lost for the season with a torn ACL.
“All you can do is continue to fight, make sure you’re maintaining and building good habits,” Green said. “Try to give yourself a chance to win these games.”
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Kristaps Porzingis, who has missed the past five games due to illness, is traveling with the team on its three-game road trip, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN (Twitter link). However, he’s already been ruled out of Thursday’s game at Houston. Golden State will also be without Moses Moody, who sprained his right wrist in Monday’s game, and Will Richard, who is sidelined with an ankle sprain.
- It would be a “fool’s errand” to re-sign Porzingis if he doesn’t show he can stay healthy, but his $30.7MM expiring contract will provide the Warriors with some cap flexibility for the offseason, notes Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. The organization wanted to get something in return for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield, but it’s going to take a summer of maneuvering to make the deal pay off, Poole adds.
- The Warriors’ injuries enabled two-way player Nate Williams to log nearly 22 minutes and score a career-high 18 points on Monday, notes Sam Gordon of The San Francisco Chronicle (subscription required). Williams, who went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and spent time guarding Kawhi Leonard, could play an important role until the rest of the roster gets healthier. “I’m just being myself and the team allows me to do that,” he said. “I give all thanks to (Steve Kerr) and the coaching staff for giving me an opportunity. They just let me be myself and they just put me on game as I go along.”

Waive Seth Curry and sign James Wiseman
Waive Seth Curry and sign Ben Simmons (to attract KD for this offseason, he likes Ben’s passing!)
KD isn’t leaving Houston until 2029
@TunaNoCrust I cant reply to you right now (no option to) but if you just watched that Rockets/Warriors game with KD visibly cussing his teammates out – his burner twitter wasn’t lying, he HATES being there. Almost the whole team is very low BBIQ, especially Sengun.
KD will 100% ask for a trade this offseason.
Weird that you can’t reply? Not sure what’s going on there man.
Anyway, that could be possible if he asks for a trade. I think KD is just working on building his team up like any good teammate would.
@TunaNoCrust
Ok no beef! I might need to drop the 3.0 to get around bugs in this account, like my last one had smh
See you out there. Dubs are going to win and never rebuild!
Nate Williams looked good at times – I like the way he plays.
Podz body language was terrible – he needs to keep his head in the game.
Draymond was very “professional” despite the incredibly bouncy Yanic Konan trying to goad him into some bs.
This is a lost season, and any return Steph makes should be with that in mind. But it wouldn’t hurt to build some chemistry with the team as constructed.
Taking time out of your day to praise a 36 year old Draymond for not physically assaulting someone is hilarious
Lmfao Druuu
Thanks coach, break time is over time to get back to the register
What a terrible team. Maybe demote them to the D-league until Curry and Butler are back.
Tank it. Lose the play in. Get a lottery pick and hopefully get top ten. Use it for a trade !
And the number 1 pick goes to the Golden State Warriors, Davey goes wild.
Boozer would be the most plug and play. Peterson is a guard version of Wiseman/Kuminga. Dybantsa is going to need 5 years to figure out how to be a pro.
Please stop talking about me, I do not play for the Warriors, I am not in the NBA. Please mute me if I take up any level of space in your mind at all. I dont know why everyone always does these weirdo callout posts about me, but not about anyone else. Thank you.
This was botched horribly by everyone involved. Kerr being Kerr, MDJ for refusing to part ways for picks when the league knew the JK/GSW situation, JK asking for a trade. Everyone is to blame on this. Getting KP was a disaster as well. They were better off getting a Vu or possibly Myles Turner who would help them right now. It looks like they are starting to fade away and realize this roster is not good enough for even a play in.
Question for GSW fans, is this the most unlikeable Warriors team in a long time?
Its a team in transition to rebuild. Its good MDJ did not trade away draft picks. Why do that when they could put any player into the lineup and they are still not a championship team. The problem is Curry and Green. Both needs to be traded. Sport media needs to quit saying they owe it to Curry. If Curry wants to win another than trade him.
“Question for GSW fans, is this the most unlikeable Warriors team in a long time?”
NEW METRIC DROPPED! What kind of idiotic question is this? Unlikable? lmao what a joke. “they won 15 games but at least they were likeable!” only someone with a loser mindset thinks like this.
Definitely not unlikeable. A number of these players look like they could be solid bench players.
If they can figure out KP, he is a really cheap big man. If not, they have a lot of cap flexibility this off season. 26 is supposed to be a great draft.
In 27, they’ll have even more room to spend.
Teams don’t get built in a day.
21 games left, Curry to miss the next 4.
So, 17 game win streak to end the year with 48 wins and storm into the playoffs! Lets go!!!
I would love for just one reporter to ask MDJ why the roster was built with so many undersized guards, its not even Ben Simmons-sized guards, its wasting a spot on Seth Curry. I used to think MDJ was good, but this specific season roster is disgusting. 10 guards? Why?? Kerr. Kuminga would still be here if he was a 6’2″ shooting guard.
But it’s Kerr is who sunk Curry’s career and these last 4 years. Period. His commitment to smallball is what prevented this team from winning 50+ every year like they easily could have. KD would have come back if Kerr was gone. Curry is also not retiring until he is deep into his 40’s, it makes no sense for him and the team to retire.
If I had a time machine I would go back and put a gun to Lacob’s head and force him to fire Kerr for causing the Poole incident to begin with, and to suspend/trade Draymond for actually doing that (which is illegal, btw, you cant punch your coworker, there are workers rights laws that should also extend to the NBA). GSW’s response of keeping both and trading Poole showed how clueless and stupid Lacob is.
Davey: People aren’t so much “talking” about you as regressing to our youthful, playground level of childishness and making fun of you. You wear a “KICK ME” sign and we act immaturely and KICK you. You’d hope we were beyond that, that you were beyond being so often moronic, but there it is.
What is worse are those people gloating over warriors downfall.
I think some of the Warriors haters have unresolved emotional problems. It is natural for teams to start falling apart after a successful run. Some people can’t handle a teams winning. So, now is my chance to hate those other fans. Why hate fans of other teams.
Why rub it in a team on the decline? Hey lets go to the bottom team site and laugh for their team being so bad. I never understand that thinking. Its like in politcal talk when 1 party wins people say look we won. No you didn’t win a politician won.
If you communicated with some humility and the ability to admit you were dead wrong, and also showed signs of having reasonably listened to other people’s point of view…
I would have to imagine you’d receive reciprocity of those concepts.
Instead you think fans have “emotional problems” while Davey exists on your side. You think fans of other teams would rather the Warriors fail than their team succeed, which isn’t the case at all. They just are rooting against you personally, and you happen to be Warrior fans. They do this because your communication is arrogant and dismissive.
What were you honestly expecting?
@ druu davey fights with warrior fans too so to claim he is on the same side is wrong. The comment is that they come here just to kick a team while they are down. one person that comments here doesn’t represent all their fans just like your comments do not reflect all the fans of your favorite team.
Huh? Davey hates.
Well, what about the unreasonable posters?
I have people tell me I couldn’t root for the Warriors in the playoffs. I could only do it if they were ‘legit’ contenders. They tell me I am delusional. Does it really matter whether or not they are ‘legit’? Don’t all fans want their team to win?
The constant barrage of Kerr and ‘small ball’ hatred kinda gets out of control. It ignores facts. But, the hatred constantly gets repeated.
Youre just rude plain and simple. Wolves in sheeps clothing. Dont go playing the victim here as it doesnt suit you.
So, why complain about me wanting the Warriors to win?
Whos complaining? You and your imaginary enemies? Youre getting senile Unc. Youre just mad at everybody that posts negative facts about the Dubs. The truth hurts and it shows. No matter how hard you spin the positives that the Dubs has (other than having Steph), the team has been on a downfall since their championship in 2022. FACTS
You see. This is why I call you Skippy. The Warriors were in a downfall when Klay went down with his 2nd injury and AD decided to leave. I did say that they went as far as could go. The rebuild was on. 22 delayed things. It was their weakest team. The FO didn’t think they could win either. Rebuilds take time. They don’t happen in a season. Developing players take time. The young players they have now are coming along just fine. Do you have a team you like? Or, do you just want post negative things about the Warriors.
Its like in basketball when the team wins a championship people say look we won. No you didnt win, the franchise won.
I have never said anything like that. I just enjoy the wins and watch the rebuilds when it is time.
Facts remain true that you are just mad at everyone who posts negative facts about your beloved Dubs Unc. It wouldnt hurt if it aint the truth Unc and seeing you respond rudely means youre the emotional and unreasonable poster. You must love hating yourself.
So, you don’t have a favorite team. No, what is annoying is that people ignore facts.
So youre annoyed with yourself since you ignore any negative fact about your beloved Dubs? Thanks for doxxing yourself.
What am I avoiding?
“hating” vastly overstates the passion level. Using that sort of language only sets you up for ridicule. Lots of folks dislike the Yankees, but even when Steinbrenner was a piece of the puzzle, ‘hate’ was a bridge too far. Try the phrasing my grandmother used on me when I had a winning hand in gin rummy, “I loathe and despise you.” Be sure to smile when you say it so you don’t across as a “hater”.
Curry will not be traded. Green probably has few suitors with his contract. So they are going to have a final season with Curry Green Butler and Horford as the nucleus. They should be able to add some additional pieces. Some geezers for sure, but they have skills.
I agree that this is the most likely scenario for next season. I mean, why not?
I think hoops fans would watch, even if it’s just to experience the Warriors crash and burn.
Any rebuild would start after next year in my opinion.
Curry is talking about giving up his starting job. He is willing to be part time player to finish out his career.
What Curry should really do if he wants to help this team is restructure the most expensive contract in the NBA. It’s laughable that Curry would come of the bench. Who would start?
I highly doubt you can restructure a NBA contract. The Warriors would still owe him the money.
Curry doesn’t think it is laughable for him to come off the bench. We will see who will take his place as a starter.
Here’s to “geezers”! Hold up the play number as we geezers are hard of hearing.
Now we’re getting to see what we all said Draymond would be without Klay and Curry…
They covered up the fact that didn’t really bring anything to the table that a whole lot of other players couldn’t.
Draymond is a running back who, if you need a yard, he’ll get you a yard.
If you need 3 yards, he’ll get you a yard.
“Now we’re getting to see what we all said Draymond would be without Klay and Curry…”
Nah no this is wrong. Draymond is 35 and starting this season has visibly regressed in every aspect of his game. Put age 24-27 Draymond on any contending team and they are winning a title. But 2026 age 35 Draymond is officially cooked in this league. His VORP is 0.0 right now, but he has been good for 1.5-2.0 the last bunch of years. Everyone is talking about Steph retiring early, but Draymond is so cooked its not funny. It’s all downhill for him too. He should be in his final season and then he can go be a media guy like he so badly wants to be.
Haha, I love little quips like that. I’m going to use this one here in the future for sure.
There’s still a glimmer of hope, though for us Warriors fans who can’t quite see the birth certificates of some of these guys.
A beautiful win on the road against a better team in the west certainly keeps my hopes up for a play-in game win or two !!
Funny game last night, huh? I thought the Warriors were the worst team in the league? What are they doing beating a near full-strength Rockets with only 10 actives? Bad teams cant do that!
Pat Spencer with a -17 in 16 mins does not belong in the NBA, at all. Go be a starter in Europe my guy.
Melton isn’t a clutch prime time guy, he blew it so bad on back to back plays to end the game.
Gui Santos’s stat line was crazy: 42 min, 14/6/6, 0-4 from 3, 7 TO….+20 ??? He might be the secret sauce?!? His turnovers dont matter for some reason?
Lunacy .. kick, kick, kick
