After being ruled out for Tuesday’s matchup with the Suns due to right knee soreness, Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards underwent an MRI that revealed inflammation in that right knee, the team announced today in a press release.
According to the Wolves, the plan is for Edwards to be reevaluated in a week or two, with further updates to be provided when available.
While that timeline doesn’t necessarily give us a clear idea of when Edwards will be able to return, it suggests he’ll miss at least three games beyond Tuesday’s contest vs. Phoenix, even if he’s reevaluated and cleared one week from today. Minnesota hosts the Jazz on Wednesday and the Trail Blazers on Friday before visiting the Celtics in Boston on Sunday.
Edwards, 24, has been enjoying a career year for the Timberwolves, averaging 29.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals in 35.5 minutes per game, with a shooting line of .492/.402/.796.
After earning a spot on the All-NBA second team in each of the past two seasons, he’s making a case for first team honors in 2025/26 — but he’ll need to play in at least eight of Minnesota’s 14 remaining games to qualify for end-of-season awards. He has appeared in 58 contests so far, but one of those 58 won’t count toward the 65-game minimum since he exited after just three minutes.
The Wolves, meanwhile, are in the midst of a competitive race for postseason seeding in the Western Conference. Entering Tuesday’s games, they’re the No. 6 seed at 41-27, but they’re only a half-game behind the No. 4 Rockets and two games up on the No. 7 Suns, their opponent tonight.
While Minnesota certainly won’t want to rush back its franchise player, the team might need his help sooner rather than later to secure a guaranteed playoff spot.

Luka, SGA, Ant, Brown, Wemby, Jokic. Who misses first team selection?
Cade, Maxey bit stiff. Does Booker qualify? Should probably sneak in on the third team. He’s been awesome and Phoenix played well above expectations.
Yes, this is one of those years where it could be interesting to think about “all NBA” 1st team and maybe some other awards too.
I haven’t looked at the appropriate game totals for qualified players, but wouldn’t it be strange for a guy likely to be a third team all NBA, win MVP of the league !!
Antman was hurting before the game against the warriors. He was questionable. I guess the losing streak is why they played him but you would think going against a deleted team of their starters would have been a good time to rest your best player.
This is the first year Ant’s really dealt with any long-term injuries. He had a hurt ankle in the playoffs last year but everyone plays through injuries in the playoffs so I don’t really count that. This season he’s had different things that have kept him out of games off and on all season. Weird to see, he usually tries to play through everything and it’s the training staff that makes him sit. His knee must be really hurting him. I hope he gets it taken care of and doesn’t come back too soon regardless of the awards. I’d rather lose now and have him ok for the playoffs or long term than risk a further injury.
the NBA do not want to admit it but the schedule is the problem with so many back to back games.
Totally agree.
Another interesting point is that guys get compensated for first team or second team all league.
The amount of their extensions applies too. Super Max versus regular Max, etc..
So this load management stuff (where it applies, and it’s not everyone of course,) but it hurts them in the pocketbook if they don’t play enough games.
I suppose that was the intent all along ? Find a way to get the guys to play as much as possible ?
Intent yes but ….
It’s side effects are giving raises to players who prolly don’t deserve them as they are essentially replacements bc so many big dawgs didn’t qualify
I have zero problems w the 65 rule applying to a piece of hardware but tying it to pay scales should have never made it past a creative thought in a butterfly’s dream
Adam got wayyy too cutsie in this last round of cba talks
Don’t like to see this but Wolves need this. Ant wasn’t playing defense 75 % of the time and was hogging the ball. He was turning into Carmelo Anthony.
Suns game showed it will help the team overall until playoffs start.
