The Heat are “the team to watch” as trade talks surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo intensify, Brian Windhorst said Monday morning on ESPN’s “Get Up” during a panel discussion of the Bucks star (Twitter video link).
“Miami would say … well, we’ve got Tyler Herro, who is a young player who’s been an All-Star, we’ve got draft picks, including the 13th pick in this draft – we can give you a lottery pick in this draft – and Giannis, I think, wants to be in Miami,” Windhorst said. “There’s more checkmarks on Miami.”
A report last week from Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic listed Herro and the No. 13 pick as part of the Heat’s likely offer to Milwaukee, along with second-year center Kel’el Ware, Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Jaime Jaquez Jr. and two future first-rounders. However, Amick stated Friday on a radio show that Antetokounmpo has “questions” about the quality of Miami’s remaining roster if that deal were to go through.
Antetokounmpo is under contract for one more season at $58.5MM and holds a $62.8MM player option for 2027/28, so there’s some risk involved in trading for him if he’s not fully committed to staying with his new team.
The Bucks are reportedly hoping to resolve the Antetokounmpo situation before the draft begins on June 23, either by trading the 10-time All-Star or getting him to commit to a long-term extension that he’ll become eligible to sign later in the year. Numerous teams have been pursuing Antetokounmpo since the trade deadline or even longer, with the Heat being among the most aggressive.
During the discussion, Windhorst became the latest reporter to throw cold water on the idea that the Thunder might part with Chet Holmgren or Jalen Williams to acquire Antetokounmpo following their playoff loss or that the Celtics may get involved with a multi-team deal involving Jaylen Brown.
“The message that Oklahoma City is sending out is that they are not touching that core,” Windhorst said. “You can choose to not believe them if you want; they say they’re running it back.”
Regarding the Celtics, Windhorst stated, “I’m not sure Boston is ready to trade Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have won a championship together. I thought there was a decent chance we’d be in Boston right now for Game 3 of these Finals.”

Imagine Giannis, Bam,Powell,Wiggins, Davion unable to get in done.
Yes a team with that and not much else behind them will very much not get it done. Giannis and Powell have had injury issues in recent seasons, Wiggins may not even be on the team with his option. And when the big prize in your Giannis deal is the 13th pick that they are hyping as lottery as it sits in the second to last slot. They can’t even put a full batch of picks on the table.
Also I don’t think the league values Herro very highly. Nobody wanted Herro a few years ago when he was on the trade block. He is coming off an injury plagued season, and is on an expiring contract. What about Herro would appeal to a now rebuilding MIL team? Would he really extend with MIL for anything but the max, since the team will suck? If you extend Herro for the max whats his trade value?
Not to difficult to imagine.
You cannot take anything Giannis said or supposedly said seriously on this. He has a vested business interest in drumming up speculation on his trade as he has ownership in one of the prediction market companies. He profits from all this.
Under 3 weeks until a Giannis trade if it happens
He’s old out of shape and selfish. Tell him to stay in Milwaukee rather than give giving up so much for him. Miami will be worse after this trade if it happens close to as described.
Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland, Caris LeVert, #21 overall, ’27 1st, ’29 1st, ’31 1st to Milwaukee
Giannis to Detroit
Cade/Giannis/Duren/Tobias w/ guys like DJenkins, Duncan, Paul Reed, Sasser, Huerter as their role players would be an extremely strong squad but they alr have a strong squad that’s still young/improving & (like any team that trades for Giannis) they’d be giving up a lot of their future
I like that package more than whatever Miami is trying to sell.
Miami’s package is pretty strong too tbh. Even if you don’t personally like Herro you have to admit he’s a great scorer/shooter. Jaquez & Ware are guys that are gonna contribute to winning in the league for yrs & yrs to come & that #13 pick is a really good piece too.
If Celtics wait until draft night I think they can trade 3 1sts.
D white, Prichard, Hauser, Hugo and three 1sts? White would have good value as a re-trade (a 1st or 2).
I like that more than Miami’s offer. Mostly because herro is always hurt, and can’t defend so he doesn’t have value to me.
Zion, Jeremiah Fears, JPoole, Yves Missi, ’28 1st, ’30 1st & ’32 1st to Milwaukee
Giannis, Portis & AJ Green to New Orleans
Tyler He-.. I mean Jordan Poole goes back home to Milwaukee for his contract yr to find some resurgence. He should contend for 6MOY w/ all the fga that should be available for him off the Bucks’ bench. Bucks get a couple of blue chippers in Zion & JFears that should anchor their rebuild. Zion is no Giannis (no is), but at his best he’s fairly close to a left handed version, sans the rebs. Missi would give them a young, skilled, active big still on his rookie deal. And just knowing the history of the Pels it’s hard to argue against their future picks being more valuable than most other teams. Fears is the real gem in this package tho. He is uber talented offensively & could team w/ Rollins to form 1 of the strongest backcourts in the league over the next 5yrs or so
NOP brings in Giannis to team w/ Dejounte, Herb, Trey, DQ, Bey & company. Portis & AJ Green give them a couple extra sharp shooting vets. If Queen continues to develop into the elite passing big than he has the potential to be, this would be a scary team. Going into next season I think they’d need to bring in a vet backup pg like Gabe Vincent, Tyus Jones, Collin Sexton. But it’s a very strong team no doubt
English is not my first language, but the use of the word “sweepstakes” seems rather odd here.
Sounds more and more like teams expect to fleece the Bucks in any trades mentioned here. Including multiple players and picks is not equal to Giannis’s value. A #13 draft pick for a 2-time MVP? That’s the best “gamble” a team can offer?
