Cavaliers Sign Brandon Goodwin To 10-Day Deal

2:32pm: In their press release confirming the Goodwin signing, the Cavaliers announced that they terminated Scott’s 10-day contract one day early.

11:12am: The Cavaliers have signed guard Brandon Goodwin to a 10-day contract, according to NBA.com’s official transactions log. The deal will run through January 9, covering Cleveland’s next five games.

Goodwin, 26, has appeared in 97 NBA games since 2018 for Denver and Atlanta, averaging 4.7 PPG and 1.6 APG in 97 games (11.4 MPG). He had been playing for the Westchester Knicks in the G League this season, putting up 15.3 PPG, 7.0 APG, 5.1 RPG, and 1.9 SPG in seven contests (35.1 MPG) for New York’s affiliate.

The Raptors reportedly reached a deal earlier in the month to sign Goodwin, but it was never formally completed. It appeared that Goodwin didn’t pass the COVID-19 screening process at the time. However, if he did test positive for the coronavirus, he has since been cleared.

As of Thursday, the Cavaliers only had two players left in the health and safety protocols: Darius Garland and Cedi Osman. Cleveland already has two hardship additions – Tre Scott and Malik Newman – on its roster, so the signing of Goodwin means the team either ended one of those deals early or has at least one more player entering the protocols today. Scott’s 10-day deal is set to expire after tonight’s game.

Cavaliers Sign Tre Scott To 10-Day Deal

The Cavaliers have signed free agent forward Tre Scott to a 10-day contract using a hardship exception, the team announced today in a press release. Scott’s deal will run through December 31.

Scott, 25, went undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2020 and spent his rookie season with Utah’s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. In 15 games for the Stars, the 6’8″ forward averaged 10.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.1 APG on .443/.296/.714 shooting in 29.3 minutes per contest.

Scott played for the Cavs in the Las Vegas Summer League earlier this year and then joined the Cleveland Charge, the Cavs’ NBAGL affiliate. He has averaged 14.1 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 2.4 APG on .442/.333/.714 shooting in 10 G League games (34.4 MPG) this season.

Cleveland has now added three players this week via the hardship exception, with Scott joining Luke Kornet and Justin Anderson. The Cavs currently have eight players in the health and safety protocols, so they’re eligible to sign a few more replacement players if they so choose.

Cavaliers Waive Tre Scott

Tre Scott, who signed a non-guaranteed training camp contract with the Cavaliers last week, has been waived by the team, according to NBA.com’s transactions log.

The 24-year-old forward signed with the Jazz in 2020 after going undrafted out of Cincinnati and played for the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League, averaging 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 15 games. He also played five games for Cleveland last month in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Scott was one of six players who signed non-guaranteed contracts with the Cavs this summer. His departure leaves the team with 17 players under contract – including 10 fully guaranteed and one two-way – plus reported agreements with Denzel Valentine and Kevin Pangos.

The Cavaliers have signed free agent forward Tre Scott to a non-guaranteed training camp contract, according to RealGM’s transactions log.

Scott, 24, went undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2020 and signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Utah. He was only under contract with the Jazz for three days, but that deal put him on track to join the team’s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, for the abridged 2021 NBAGL season.

In 15 games for the Stars, the 6’8″ forward averaged 10.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.1 APG on .443/.296/.714 shooting in 29.3 minutes per contest. Scott also played for Cleveland in the Las Vegas Summer League last month, averaging 5.6 PPG and 3.0 RPG in five games (14.6 MPG).

While the Cavaliers are only carrying 10 players on fully guaranteed contracts, Scott will be their sixth player on a non-guaranteed deal, so it will be an uphill battle to earn a spot on the 15-man regular season roster. However, Cleveland still has both of its two-way slots open, so Scott could be in the mix to fill one of those.

Jazz Waive Trevon Bluiett, Three Others

The Jazz have waived guard Trevon Bluiett and three undrafted rookies — center Romaro Gill, forward Tre Scott and guard Jake Toolson — according to a team press release.

Utah needed to make room on its 20-man roster for two new additions, guard Yogi Ferrell and forward Malcolm Miller.

Some or all of the players let go on Friday could wind up with the Jazz’s G League club in Salt Lake City if they clear waivers.

Bluiett appeared in 41 games with the Salt Lake City Stars last season, averaging 14.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 2.5 APG in 29.3 MPG.

Gill, an undrafted rookie out of Seton Hall, posted averages of 7.8 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 3.2 BPG in 30 games last season.

Scott was a four-year player at Cincinnati and averaged 11.4 PPG and 10.5 RPG in 33.7 MPG for the Bearcats last season.

Toolson spent two seasons at BYU before transferring to Utah Valley and then back to BYU last season. He averaged 15.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 3.9 APG as a senior.

Jazz Sign Tre Scott

After opening up a roster spot on Tuesday by waiving Nigel Williams-Goss, the Jazz have filled it by signing rookie forward Tre Scott, the team announced today in a press release.

Scott, 24, went undrafted last month after spending his four-year college career at Cincinnati. As a senior in 2019/20, he averaged 11.4 PPG and 10.5 RPG in 30 games (33.7 MPG), earning Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player honors in the American Athletic Conference.

While the terms of Scott’s deal weren’t reported, this will almost certainly be an Exhibit 10 contract that sets him up to join Utah’s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, once he’s waived by the Jazz. Depending on how the NBAGL season plays out, he could be in line to earn a $50K bonus as a member of the Stars.

The Jazz now have a full 20-man roster and will have to make at least three cuts before next Monday’s regular season roster deadline. Scott, Romaro Gill, Jake Toolson, and Trevon Bluiett look like the probable odd men out.
