Dominique Jones Joins Springfield Armor

Several days after clearing waivers, Dominique Jones has signed a D-League contract and will join the Springfield Armor, agent Michael Hodges tells Shams Charania of RealGM.com. Jones was released last weekend by the Mavericks.

Jones, 24, averaged just 9.3 minutes per game in 80 contests during nearly three season with the Mavericks. Dallas explored trades for Jones on multiple occasions, but was unable to find an acceptable deal. ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported (via Twitter) last Saturday that the Mavericks' decision to waive Jones was motivated in part by his reluctance to accept a D-League assignment, so assuming that report was accurate, it's a little ironic to see Jones end up on a D-League squad.

Mavs GM Donnie Nelson said earlier this week that the playing time Jones was seeking wasn't available in Dallas, so the stint with the Armor will at least give the 6'4" guard an opportunity to log increased minutes. According to Charania, Jones remains open to signing a rest-of-season deal with an NBA team, particularly if it includes a partially-guaranteed team option for 2013/14.

Clippers Sign DaJuan Summers

FRIDAY, 12:39pm: The Clippers have officially signed Summers to a 10-day contract, the team announced today in a press release.

THURSDAY, 6:53pm: Summers will join the Clippers tomorrow, according to Shelburne (Twitter link).

6:31pm: The Clippers will indeed sign Summers, a source tells Kennedy (Twitter link). Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com tweets further confirmation.

6:14pm: The Clippers plan to sign DaJuan Summers out of the D-League, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports (Twitter link). After the team waived Trey Thompkins this afternoon a move appeared imminent, as Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld noted via Twitter that the Clippers would likely fill the roster spot. Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com heard the team was after a "youngish point guard," but it appears they're going in a different direction with Summers, a 6'8" forward.

Summers, 25, is averaging 18.0 points and 7.6 rebounds a game over 29 contests for the Maine Red Claws this year. He appeared in 15 games with the Hornets last season after spending two seasons with the Pistons, who made him the 35th overall pick in the 2009 draft. The Georgetown product was in camp with the Bobcats this past fall, and drew interest from Panathinaikos of Greece before opting to go to the D-League.

Terms of Summers' pending deal are unclear, but I'd guess he'll be on a 10-day contract, just like soon-to-be Clippers teammate Maalik Wayns. Since he hasn't been on another NBA team's roster during the regular season this year, Summers would be eligible for the playoffs if the Clippers keep him around for the rest of the season, as Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors detailed.

Clippers Waive Trey Thompkins

4:59pm: Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com is hearing that the Clippers opened up a roster spot because they want to sign a "youngish point guard" (Twitter link).

3:06pm: The Clippers have released big man Trey Thompkins, the team announced today in a press release. Taking into account Maalik Wayns, who is on a 10-day contract, the team had been carrying 15 players, so the move opens up a roster spot.

"We want to thank Trey for his contribution to the Clippers," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said in the release. "Unfortunately, he was never able to truly showcase his talents this season due to injuries. We wish him all the best and believe he has a bright future."

Thompkins, 22, has been sidelined for the entire 2012/13 season with what we heard was a bone bruise in his left knee. The Georgia product appeared in 24 games last season for the Clippers after being drafted by the team 37th overall in the 2011 draft. He had a non-guaranteed season on his deal for 2013/14, but it appears the team either knew it wouldn't be bringing him back or wanted to open up a roster spot for another signing — or both.

Assuming Thompkins clears waivers, the Clippers will be on the hook for the remainder of his minimum salary for '12/13.

Bobcats Sign Jannero Pargo

THURSDAY, 9:11am: The Bobcats have officially signed Pargo to a 10-day contract, according to Bobcats VP of communications B.J. Evans (Twitter link).

WEDNESDAY, 10:34am: The Bobcats will likely wait until tomorrow to finalize the agreement with Pargo, tweets Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Since Charlotte isn't practicing or playing a game today, waiting until tomorrow will allow the team to maximize Pargo's 10 days.

8:25am: The Bobcats will sign Jannero Pargo today to add depth to their backcourt, reports Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Pargo's deal with Charlotte is expected to be a 10-day contract, according to Bonnell.

Pargo, 33, has had stints with the Wizards and Hawks this season, though neither lasted long. Pargo was cut by the Wizards just a couple weeks into the season, and later inked a pair of 10-day deals with the Hawks, who elected not to retain his services for the remainder of the season. In a small sample size (14 games), Pargo has posted career-lows in FG% (.300) and PER (5.3), among other categories. However, he had a solid season in Atlanta a year ago, recording a career-best 13.6 PER.

For the Bobcats, Ramon Sessions has been sidelined with a sprained left knee, leaving the team thin at point guard, so Pargo is expected to back up starter Kemba Walker. Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors suggested last Friday that Pargo might be a fit for the Bobcats in the wake of Sessions' injury.

Charlotte currently has 14 players on its roster, so a corresponding move won't be necessary to clear a roster spot for Pargo.

D-League Notes: Jones, Brackins, Warriors, Acy

In addition to the usual assignments and recalls, we've got a couple more D-League links of note to share. Let's round them up….

  • Perry Jones III has been recalled from the Tulsa 66ers, the Thunder announced today in a press release. The 2012 first-round pick will be available for tonight's game in Oklahoma City vs. the Jazz.
  • The Los Angeles D-Fenders have acquired former first-round pick Craig Brackins, the D-League squad formally announced today (Twitter link). Brackins, who played in Italy earlier this season, was the 21st overall pick in 2010, but only appeared in 17 games over two season for the Sixers before failing to find an NBA job last summer.

Earlier updates:

  • The Warriors have recalled Kent Bazemore and Malcolm Thomas from the D-League, a day after their respective assignments, the team announced today in a press release. Bazemore and Thomas combined for 24 points and 26 rebounds in Santa Cruz's 110-103 win over Reno last night.
  • Kevin Jones has been re-assigned once again to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers announced today in a press release. Jones' D-League assignments this season have typically just lasted one game, so I imagine he'll return to the Cavs after playing for the Charge in tonight's game against the Bakersfield Jam.
  • With Andrea Bargnani officially ruled out for the season by the Raptors, Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun anticipates that the team will recall Quincy Acy from the D-League (Twitter link).
  • Warriors assistant general manager Kirk Lacob, who is also the GM of the team's D-League affiliate in Santa Cruz, spoke to Keith Schlosser of Ridiculous Upside about developing players and the relationship between the organization's D-League and NBA teams.
  • Ken Rodriguez of Spurs.com takes a look at Cory Joseph's journey to the D-League and back to the Spurs.

Mavericks Sign Chris Wright To 10-Day Contract

12:50pm: The Mavs have officially signed Wright to a 10-day contract, according to a team release.

WEDNESDAY, 7:52am: Mavs GM Donnie Nelson tells Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he signed his portion of Wright's contract on Tuesday. Wright is expected to officially sign and finalize the deal today, says Price (Twitter links).

SUNDAY, 6:53pm: The Mavericks are set to sign guard Chris Wright to a 10-day contract this week, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com (on Twitter).  Wright will take the place of the recently waived Dominique Jones on the Mavs' roster.

Wright, 23, was a standout at Georgetown but injuries slowed him down along the way with the most notable being a broken bone in his left hand during his senior year.  The 6'1" point guard would then travel overseas to Turkey before landing with the D-League's Iowa Energy this season.

Wright has been amongst the most talked about players in the D-League this year and has been connected to several teams looking for a fill-in at guard.  In 2012/13, Wright averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Energy.

The Mavs' decision to waive Jones came as a surprise last week but it is believed that they cut him loose over his unwillingness to go to the D-League.  Jones has only seen time in five games for the Mavericks in this calendar year.

Warriors Assign Bazemore, Thomas To D-League

Here are today's D-League assignments and recalls, with any further moves added to the top of the page throughout the day:

  • The Warriors have assigned Kent Bazemore and Malcolm Thomas to their D-League affiliate, the team announced today in a press release. Thomas is on a 10-day contract with Golden State, so either his D-League stint will be brief or the team has a longer-term plan for him — perhaps both. For Bazemore, it's his fifth assignment to the Santa Cruz Warriors this season.

Hornets Sign Louis Amundson, Waive Henry Sims

TUESDAY, 10:03am: The Hornets have officially signed Amundson for the remainder of the season, the team announced in a press release. Sims has been released to clear a roster spot, according to the club.

MONDAY, 3:26pm: Louis Amundson's brief stint with the Bulls will come to an end tonight, as the big man tells Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida (Twitter link) that he'll sign with the Hornets once his 10-day contract with the Bulls expires. Amundson's new deal with New Orleans will be for the rest of the season, adds Tomasson (via Twitter).

Amundson, 30, played just two minutes for Chicago, appearing in only one of the five games the team played during his 10 days with the club. He expects to receive more minutes with the Hornets, as he tells Tomasson (Sulia link).

"Chicago was prepared to sign me to another 10-day," Amundson said in a text message. "But I felt I should go somewhere where I can get a better opportunity to play."

In 20 games with the Timberwolves earlier this season, Amundson averaged just 8.1 minutes per contest, his lowest mark since 2007/08. His 6.4 PER and .368 FG% were also career-lows. The Wolves cut him last month when they signed Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale to rest-of-season deals.

The Hornets currently have a full roster of 15 players, though two of those guys are on 10-day deals. Henry Sims' 10-day contract expires tomorrow night, so I would guess that New Orleans will wait until Wednesday to sign Amundson, ensuring that the team doesn't have to release a player on a guaranteed contract.

Heat Re-Sign Juwan Howard

Juwan Howard's 10-day contract with the Heat expired overnight, but the team didn't waste any time ensuring that the veteran big man remains under contract. The Heat announced today in a press release that Howard has been re-signed to a second 10-day deal.

Howard, 40, has yet to appear in a game with the Heat this season, but has a spot on the roster more for his off-court leadership than what he can provide on the court. Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida reported last week that Howard was expected to receive a second 10-day contract, while Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported when Howard first signed that he would likely stick with the Heat for the season.

Howard's new 10-day contract will expire next Thursday night, at which point the team will have to either let him go or re-sign him to a rest-of-season deal.

Celtics Re-Sign Shavlik Randolph

The Celtics announced that they have signed Shavlik Randolph to a second ten-day contract. Boston first inked Randolph the former Duke standout to a ten-day deal on March 1st.

Randolph, a 6’10” forward, has yet to appear in a game for the Celtics since joining the club.  Prior to making his NBA return, he appeared in 28 games for the Foshan Long Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association and averaged 32.0 PPG, 14.6 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 36.5 minutes per contest while shooting 53.1% from the floor.

Prior to this stint with the C's, Randolph's last NBA action came in 2009/10 when he appeared in three games each for the Heat and Trail Blazers.  The forward is still looking to see his first action in green and white and it could come tomorrow night if things get lopsided against the struggling Bobcats.
