The Timberwolves And The Salary Cap
After a season in which Michael Beasley, Martell Webster, and Wesley Johnson spent a good chunk of time at the wing positions in Minnesota, the Timberwolves have prioritized the spot early in the offseason. The team acquired Chase Budinger via trade, and reached a contract agreement with Brandon Roy. On top of that, the Wolves are set to sign Nicolas Batum to a big, four-year offer sheet. Does Minnesota have the cap room for all these potential new additions? Let's take a look….
Rockets No Longer Frontrunner For Camby
4:09pm: Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports confirms (via Twitter) that the two teams Camby is visiting in the coming days, the Heat and Knicks, are the frontrunners to land him.
3:23pm: If the questions I received in yesterday's live chat were any indication, Rockets fans aren't entirely on board with the direction of the team's offseason so far. It seems that stance may extend to the team's free agents as well, as a source tells Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida (Twitter link) that Houston is no longer Marcus Camby's preferred destination. According to Tomasson, Camby's tune has "changed greatly" this week, and he's now wary about re-signing with the Rockets, since the team appears to be rebuilding.
Hawks Targeting Small Forwards
The Hawks have agreed to trade away two of their starters already this offseason, in Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams. And while the team acquired a number of players in the Nets trade and a potential starting point guard in the Jazz deal, the team was left with a hole at the small forward position, where Williams and Johnson played last year. According to Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, that position is a top priority for the team in free agency.

Raptors Shopping Jose Calderon
JULY 6th, 3:16pm: There's a "growing sense" around the league that the Raptors will either trade or keep Calderon, rather than amnestying him, says ESPN.com's Marc Stein (via Twitter).
JULY 1st, 11:52am: The Raptors are trying to trade Calderon so that they don't need to amnesty his expiring contract, tweets ESPN.com's Marc Stein. Stein adds in a second tweet that the Raps are seeking a trade partner with a big enough trade exception or chunk of cap space to absorb Calderon's salary. The Nuggets are the only team with a trade exception large enough for Calderon's contract, so finding a deal could be tricky.
Warriors Sign Festus Ezeli
The Warriors have officially signed Festus Ezeli to a rookie contract, the team announced today in a press release. The rookie scale amount for the 30th overall pick is $850,800, so Ezeli is eligible to sign for up to 120% of that amount ($1,020,960).
Ezeli is the second of the Warriors' two first-rounders to sign, as the team announced earlier this week that it had locked up seventh-overall pick Harrison Barnes.
Dwight Howard Rumors: Friday
In yesterday's round-up of Dwight Howard rumors, we heard that the Nets and Magic were "still plugging away" in negotiations, and that the Magic are seeking cap relief in any deal. The Lakers also remain in the hunt, as Kobe Bryant would welcome the opportunity to play with Howard, even if he won't actively recruit him. As the Howard trade talks continue, we'll round up Friday's updates right here, with the latest items up top:
- There hasn't been any movement on the Howard talks today, according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com (Twitter link). In addition to the Nets and Lakers, the Hawks, Mavericks, and Rockets remain in play, Berger adds.

Latest On Ray Allen
2:47pm: Allen left Miami without giving the Heat an answer on their offer and is "torn" on whether to leave the Celtics, says Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com. TNT's David Aldridge adds (via Twitter) that the Grizzlies and Timberwolves are still options, though Allen doesn't have plans to visit either team. I'd guess his decision comes down to Miami and Boston.
FRIDAY, 1:54pm: The Timberwolves are the "dark-horse" in the chase for Allen, tweets Ric Bucher of ESPN.com. As Bucher acknowledges though, Minnesota is an extreme long shot.
Free Agent Rumors: Redd, Camby, Stiemsma
Brandon Roy, Jason Kidd, and Jamal Crawford were among the players to reach agreements with new clubs yesterday, while Nicolas Batum and Jeremy Lin agreed to lucrative offer sheets that their current teams are expected to match. What will Friday bring? Here are the latest rumors on a number of free agents still on the market:
- The Suns and Bulls are the two teams "most heavily in the mix" for Michael Redd, says Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida.
- Marcus Camby will meet with the Heat tomorrow and the Knicks next, tweets Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. Feigen adds that Camby likely won't meet with the Rockets until there's resolution on Omer Asik.

Jerryd Bayless Becomes Unrestricted Free Agent
The Raptors have withdrawn their qualifying offer for free agent guard Jerryd Bayless, making him unrestricted, tweets ESPN.com's Marc Stein. Bayless is now free to agree to sign with any team, without the Raptors having the opportunity to match.
