Celtics GM Danny Ainge said that UCLA freshman point guard Lonzo Ball will not work out for his team prior to the draft, A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast SportsNet tweets.
The news doesn’t come as a surprise, as his outspoken father LaVar said last week that his son would only work out for the Lakers. Boston and Los Angeles were the winners in the draft lottery, as they hold the top two picks.
Ball and Washington point guard Markelle Fultz are considered the top two players in the draft. Just because Ball refuses to work out for the Celtics doesn’t mean they will pass on him, if they deem him to be the best player in the draft.
Even so, Ball’s desire to play for the Lakers may increase the chances Fultz will be the Celtics’ pick, unless Ainge decides to use it as part of a package to acquire an All-Star level player.

Ainge should still threaten to take this guy and gauge the Lakers to see how badly they want him. Maybe make a trade for the Lakers to move up a slot and acquire assets while they’re at it. Can’t hurt to try.

Dude it was 1 game, Ball is going to be a superstar. He can create his own shot, is a really big guard with athleticism and has unlimited range. All the Lakers have to do is keep Randle and Ingram around and forget about George he’s not worth it and does not fit anywhere with Ingram already there. Trade Russell to the Knicks for their pick and draft Zach Collins or Jarrett Allen in case Randle does not make any strides.

Celtics should draft ball and shop him around maybe to Knicks. I’m a laker fan and I think Ball is going to be a problem because he already thinks he’s way better than he is. He averaged 16 points a game in college. Maybe him and his dad should go through past college guys and see their offensive production numbers in college. I think he will be locker room problem and off the court problem. Point guard needs to lead team and it’s hard to lead if your team doesn’t get along with you. Lakers should take Fox or Tatum.
Dude Towns and Davis never were good scorers in college and look at them now. Ball doesnt have to be a dominant scorer to be a superstar, the dude makes everyone better and will be a Jason Kidd type superstar
