Dwane Casey was named the league’s Coach of the Year at the NBA’s second annual awards show.
This continues the awkwardness of Casey getting a top coaching award for his efforts with a franchise that fired him after the playoffs. He was let go by the Raptors after they were swept by the Cavaliers. His peers at the National Basketball Coaches Association also named him their Coach of the Year days before he fired.
He was named the Pistons’ new head coach earlier this month.
The Jazz’s Quin Snyder and Celtics’ Brad Stevens were the other finalists. The Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni earned the honor the previous season.
Lol this is funny to me. In my opinion not only did the Raptors mess up by firing this guy but they downgraded in my opinion as well I guess we won’t know for sure until after this next season but sure seems that way to me

Agreed. Nothing lasts forever and (depending on how the new coach runs things) sometimes a good team need a bolt of new energy or a different perspective. He should do well in Detroit.

Disagree with the idea that they messed up or downgraded. Casey credited Nurse with changing the Raptors offensive game plan which was ranked third this year. Casey did a good job to be open to change, but management certainly didn’t leave him an option after numerous underwhelming playoff results.
Sure they could regret firing the coach of the year. But it could also be another George Karl

Casey is overrated. He did what was ‘expected’ based on the talent of that team, but didn’t take it further. Brad Stevens should’ve won the award, and probably will multiple times in the years to come.
Awful result, I mean I don’t know why Casey & Snyder were even on the list. Stevens yeah, as a finalist, but other guys did better jobs like Stotts & Gentry. But to me the award should have gone without a doubt to Brett Brown. What an amazing season he had in Philly, way underrated, while Casey was way overrated.
Wrong guy won it, bad choice.
The award doesn’t account for the fact that he screwed up and got fired: bench DeRozen in 4th quarter of playoffs! That was not going to be forgiven by the best player on the team that had just signed a max contract. It’s a players league! He won’t win anything in Detroit because Blake is full of limitations and way overpaid.
should’ve gone to Brad leading the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals without Kyrie and Hayward and yeah Even though they lost they were one win from the Finals Stevens should’ve won
