JULY 20, 8:03am: The signing is official, according to NBA.com’s transactions log.
JUNE 30, 9:20pm: The Jazz have agreed to sign big man Ed Davis to a two-year deal, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com passes along via Twitter. Davis will make $10MM over the next two seasons.
Utah will use the room exception to sign Davis, which is the same type of deal the big man inked last summer in Brooklyn. Davis was our Room Exception MVP, as I broke down in our contract awards.
Davis had previously stated that the financials would likely dictate his destination in free agency. “First is the money…Then, two is fit,” Davis said last month.
The Jazz agreed to a contract with Bojan Bogdanovic earlier in the day, reaching a four-year, $73MM deal with the wing. The team is expected to either trade or waive Derrick Favors in order to accommodate the signing. Davis will help Utah fortify its big man rotation.

Probably the fav for the next room exception MVP as well. Utah desperately needed a big and indeed still does. Davis might start if neither Ingles nor Bojan don’t push in there and get the ball.
When the Nets drafted Claxton that was not good for Davis in BRK. In which case they should have drafted someone else. I think the Nets’ dtafting skills got a bit rusty.
The trade of Kabengale was a bit questionable (I know, cap space). He seemed like a good fit at the 4. Claxton is slotting in as the third string C behind Allen and Jordan. Claxton was also a last minute invite to the draft and one of about 17 or 18 guys. Most mocks had him going in the 20’s and his stock was rising. I think he’s a good value pick at 31 though he will probably play in Long Island most of the year. Musa at 29 last year was also questionable with Mitchell Robinson and Omari Spellman still available and better fits. Kurucs was pretty impressive for 40th overall though IMO.
Actually I’m sort of mad about the Claxton situation overall; it’s not the Net’s fault he was still there. He might be something.
But he wanted to stay at Georgia and grow, not be stashed in the minors “developing”, but that looks likely despite promises made. He didn’t enter for the money.
At least it’s the Nets.
