Lakers Waiving Quinn Cook

The Lakers are waiving Quinn Cook before his salary for 2020/21 becomes fully guaranteed, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Cook currently has a $1MM partial guarantee on his $3MM cap hit for next season. If he remains on the roster, that figure becomes fully guaranteed, so the Lakers will let him go before that happens, creating at least $2MM in cap flexibility. If the club decides to stretch Cook’s $1MM guarantee over three seasons, it would open up an extra $667K.

Cook, who signed with Los Angeles as a free agent during the 2019 offseason after two years in Golden State, didn’t have a major role for the Lakers. He averaged 5.1 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and 1.1 APG in 44 regular season games (11.5 MPG) and then logged only 24 total minutes during the team’s postseason run.

Assuming Cook clears waivers this weekend, he’ll be free to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent.

Shed no tears for Cook. He has won two championships and has great hair.

Lakers appear to making cap space to sign Christian wood in free agency. It’s possible that a sign and trade involving kuzma, mcgee and other pieces heading to Detroit.

      • Tatsumaki

Sources are saying lakers may try to trade for early bird rights to wood or potential sign and trade. Pieces involved include kuzma, mcgee, and possibly talon tucker plus other pieces.

You have no idea what you are talking about.. tht isn’t being traded.lakers aren’t targeting wood.. lakers are targeting Mathews and ibaka in free agency.. with Schroeder, lakers aren’t trading for d rose.

          • Tatsumaki

Lakers are targeting players that fits ad’s timeline wood is 25 and plays center and can stretch floor. 3/36 million for wood and if he plays like he did last year can be moved after 1 year easily. Rob is smart.

Where did I mentioned d rose???? The trade is for wood. Can you read?

            • Lakers1

So lakers gonna give up their cap space for wood who has started 13 games in his career.. again, you don’t know what you are talking about.. they are going after ibaka and Wes mathews.. ibaka is cheaper and better defender and 3 pt shooter.. their is not one report of wood..

              • imindless

Lakers1 can you read? You appear to be the one not capable of reading comprehension. Wood has displayed the ability to stretch floor and fits lakers timeline and is young. While Ibaka is a solid player he is 31 and will likely command more than lakers can offer imo. Also last I heard Mathews could be had for vet min so i don’t see how wood would take them out of the running to add both.

                • Lakers1

Imindless.. you don’t know what lakers are gonna do. Obviously…He started 13 games.. in his career.. gonna give up all cap space for a player that’s bounced around 5 teams in 5 years that put up stats on a bad piston team.. yeah that sounds smart.. that’s exactly what lakers are gonna do.. that also means renounce Howard, Morris. And fill out rest of roster with minimums if they keep kcp

LeBron will give his “wish list” and his “preferred roster” to management and they’ll just smile and do whatever he wants.
