The Rockets have officially waived center Enes Freedom, the team announced today (Twitter link via Marc Stein). The move had been expected.
Freedom was one of three players Houston acquired in its deadline-day deal that sent Daniel Theis to Boston. The other two, Dennis Schröder and Bruno Fernando, remain under contract with the Rockets. Like Freedom though, they’re on expiring deals, so it’s unclear if they’ll be part of the Rockets’ plans going forward.
Freedom, formerly known as Enes Kanter, signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract to return to the Celtics in the 2021 offseason, but didn’t play a major role with the club, averaging 3.7 PPG and 4.6 RPG in 35 games (11.7 MPG). The big man has always been a talented scorer and rebounder, but is a defensive liability, particularly in a scheme like Ime Udoka‘s that employed frequent switching.
Because he was on a minimum-salary contract, Freedom could be claimed off waivers by any team using the minimum salary exception. If he goes unclaimed, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday and would be eligible to sign with any team except Boston. NBA rules prohibit teams from re-signing a player they just traded away in the event he’s cut by his new club.
Freedom is almost free
Lol I think he can be a useful player but I’m fairly positive he’s not gettin back in the league, anyone see the south parkish cartoon he posted on Instagram on trade deadline day? Lol I respect him but it’s a wrap
What does Instagram have to do with his talent? He wasn’t contributing in Boston. So, they had no use for him. Houston is rebuilding. You can’t say it has anything to do with politics. He crossed that line years ago. Turkey tried to get him extradited.
Yep. Too bad because Enes was a good hustle guy off the bench. Not the smartest player but he’s a good 10-15 minutes of energy to disrupt when opponents playing smoothly. Problem is Ughyurs are tribal peoples loyal to Vlad on Chinese soil. The religion is no factor at all. Wrong side of Great Wall was the problem, and hoping Enes too dumb to know, but odds are he prefers invasion of Ukraine since he skipped answering that question too many times, always shifting topic to GRU Ugyhurs. I hope all the Ugyhurs are ok but equally hope they realize choosing Vlad is the much more harsh dictatorship by far. As the world is finally learning. Vlad willing to sacrifice his own to line his pockets in ways few leaders post WW2 ever have. I like Enes but this threw me he went so far. He might catch on in a Slavic Euro league and learn something about his missing education. But I wish him well.

Amazing this guy made 101 million in the NBA
Gilbert Arenas says hello
Agent Zero was a megastar before injuries derailed his career, guy was out of this world good, Enes always has been a mediocre below average player… so can you explain your point, as I can’t imagine anyone will get it!
I’m sure that helps the wizards sleep well at night when they gave him that 111 million contract. But hey his gun toting in the locker room ways got them John Wall.
If Enes was given ample run like he should have, he’s easily a double double machine. So somehow he is below average and mediocre? Maybe you can explain your point there
@zylo88 You are obviously a Troll. He has been in the league 11 years. His defense is not going to improve. That is pretty obvious.
sometimes you need instant offense from the 2nd unit and kanter can provide that though
He is one of the worst defensive big men I’ve ever seen. You can’t play him because other teams go at him. After a decade he still doesn’t know what a rotation is. I thought he could be a great center in this league but he’s never put in the work to learn defence. He is still confused night in and night out. It’s embarrassing that he cares more about other things in the offseason than working on his D. Maybe I’d respect him if he respected the game but he’s just a social media narcissist who wants to collect a cheque.
JV for NO worked his ass off in the offseasons in TO to be able to step out on pick n rolls, run the floor and rotate. He’s now worth 10 Enes’ and is a top center in the league.
Love G-Man… he’s a good dude and was fun to watch before his knees tapped-out. He didn’t ever have a complete & healthy roster to my memory when he was in his prime. I’m thinking that name just as jinxed as what it replaced, because instead of magic spells, more often than not, it makes me wonder if it’s “Washington Whizzers”. That brief glimpse when Brodie & Beal were jellin seemed like might put them deeper, but bloated contracts killing so many middle market teams, there’s going to need to be some hard caps on top players at ‘_’ x year, a max deal all players get, with only way for more pay is WINS not stats not awards, WINS. It’s the only way to clean up unequal opportunity for small and middle market teams. You want success to come to small markets more often. Geographic saturation gives NBA longevity. Big city team dominance bad for ticket sales elsewhere. Guys like Arenas shouldn’t have to want to go elsewhere to get a complete roster. Look at Dame. He’s probably near retirement by the time Portland has a contending roster, just padding stats unless he’s willing to go elsewhere on a pay cut to make a ring run. Dame in Denver would be fun.
He is one of the best rebounders in the NBA. Just last year he averaged 16 boards per 36 minutes. Just 5 or 6 years ago his skills were valued in the NBA. Now a big has to be able to switch on D and hopefully shoot three-pointers.
Hopefully Rockets bring Brooks back. Not sure if he will get any minutes. There has to be a team that can utilize this guy properly. As much as I root against the Heat, I think he would fit extremely well in that system. This is Brooks second year and he’s getting better each year. Again, if Heat wasn’t so crowded, he’d fit right into that system and potentially winning a title with them.
Maybe Clippers or Memphis
If you speak up against the CCP as an NBA player, THIS is what you get?
Huh? His lack of useful talent had nothing to do with it. The guy made $101 million. Don’t try and tell me he is oppressed. Funny, you guys never said anything when Turkey locked up his family and tried to have him extradited.
Back to Portland
Brooklyn #FreeFreedom
Lakers were offering a couple of second-round picks and some minimum contracts for Dennis Schröder
The Celtics want to clear Schorder’s salary to get under the luxury tax but Lakers did not want to help Celtics to save the luxury tax.
Dude got traded to a team that celebrates Chinese culture. Everybody and their momma knew he was going to get waived.
Boston traded him to Houston just so he could get waived by them. That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. Does China not like the other 2 players? Why? I guess you believe that all NBA teams are now run by China? That is the only way your statement makes any sense. I guess it is not Politically Correct enough to believe that maybe he isn’t a good enough player.
What are you even trying to say? Your statement makes zero sense there bud. Do you even pay attention to anything that goes on with the China connection?
What China connection? Please give us the complete details. Who in China forced the Celtics to make this trade?
Why are you so emotional ? All I said was he got traded to a team that celebrates Chinese culture and now he’s getting waived, PERIOD. it was lowkey a joke but u had to ruin it.
Bucks ?
Wouldn’t mind him in Philly to replace Drummond
Headed to Daily Wire now. Lol
I’ll join you right after I watch some OAN
