Joshua Primo went unclaimed on Monday after the Spurs placed him on waivers on Friday night, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.
It’s not surprising, given the circumstances surrounding San Antonio’s decision to cut ties with Primo, the 12th pick of the 2021 draft. Primo had multiple allegations of indecent exposure lodged against him. A former female Spurs employee has hired legal representation after Primo allegedly exposed himself to her.
San Antonio exercised its $4.3MM option on his contract for the 2023/24 season shortly before it waived Primo, who had a $4.1MM salary this season. If a team had claimed him, it would have been obligated to pay him this season’s salary as well as the $4.3MM option for 2023/24 that the Spurs picked up.
Now an unrestricted free agent, Primo has pledged to focus on his mental health treatment. He played 50 games as a rookie and made 16 starts. He was used off the bench in four games this season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 23.3 minutes per game.

As a Clevelander, I wish the Browns had shown a tenth of San Antonio’s class.
Class? He’s a stupid kid that made a stupid mistake. If there had of been a threat or physical contact that’s one thing….but trying to ruin a kids career for an immature mistake after Reese McGuire and Deshaun Watson get to keep playing and being much older than Primo was? Mule fritters is what it is. The Spurs organization should be ashamed of themselves for bailing on the kid. You help kids you don’t abandon them. I know plenty of 19 year olds that have done way worse and not had this kind of treatment.
What did he do?
It wasn’t just a one time incident, the reports have been that he exposed himself to multiple woman. With that being the case this is something that they had likely already warned him about and he still continued to do it.

Spurs organization should be ashamed in cutting bait on a 19 yr old who needs psychological help. Lets hope the ping pong balls never again bounce in their favor.
The woman who is suing has the same attorney as the DeShaun Watson victims. She is a doctor. She was a consulting psychologist with the team. Not your ordinary accuser. He had multiple incidents. Not sure if the Spurs had a choice here.

It’s weird how you excuse Primo’s behavior when it pretty much equivalent to McGuire’s, especially in light of Primo’s case where it allegedly happened on more than one occasion.
How many of those 19 year-old kids do you know who get paid millions of $$$ to play basketball???? Spurs still cutting him those checks. He has more than enough money, an agent, and more than enough “handlers” to get him the help he needs without the Spurs.
Had the Spurs not waived him. He would still be “exposing” himself in the office.

Can we stop calling stuff like this a “mistake”? A mistake is ordering the wrong sandwich or mixing up two people’s names. This is a bit more serious and well more avoidable.
I mean, I think it’s good that he’s a big enough man to see that he needs to step back and ask for help handling things. Sometimes it can be very hard trying to get a grip on it all by yourself. With the right help he’ll probably come pretty quickly if there’s a team ready to let him have another shot.
