The Bulls and Knicks are discussing a deal involving high-scoring wing Zach LaVine, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports (Twitter link).
The two parties have been talking but they temporarily broke off those negotiations on Wednesday. They’re now actively discussing a potential LaVine trade once again, Cowley adds.
While multiple reports in recent weeks have indicated the Bulls are unlikely to move one of their core pieces at the deadline, it sounds like they haven’t ruled out that possibility.
There has been an internal debate within the Knicks organization about whether to include Immanuel Quickley in any trade discussions, according to Matt Moore of Action Network. The Knicks have also been linked to Raptors forward OG Anunoby, so the revived discussions with the Bulls could signal New York is willing to deal Quickley.
LaVine, who is averaging 23.6 points per game, is in the first year of a five-year, maximum-salary contract worth approximately $215MM.
The Knicks have already agreed to acquire Josh Hart from Portland but they could include any number of players, including Quickley, to make a LaVine trade a reality. RJ Barrett and/or Obi Toppin might also be logical trade pieces if the Knicks decide to make a blockbuster move.

Talented, but that contract is going to hurt in the end. His history of injuries is not appealing at all.
This would be crazy for the Knicks
Unless you’re trading Fournier and little else, bad idea. LaVine isn’t going to elevate the Knicks.
Knicks making moves
Zach doesn’t want NY. He wants LA.
Then let LA have Zach then.
Exactly, Cap. Don’t want Lavine anywhere near the Knicks.
Count me in as another Knick fan that wants no part of this.
Another example thrown in our faces on how we should have gotten Mitchell smh
As a Raps fan I say “Go Knicks Go”. Get it done LoL
What more does Quickley have to do to prove he should not be traded?
So Fournier, Rose, Toppin, Quickley and picks?
That would rock for the Bulls, solved multiple problems.
Honestly, I’ve endured a lot as a Knicks fan. If they make this trade I think I’m just done with basketball in general. Lavine would be just the next overrated star they’d destroy their young talent and draft pick capital for and I’m beyond tired of seeing them constantly do it while never learning from their mistakes.
So smart for the Bulls to trade Lavine. He is going to be an albatross contract in 2 years.
I don’t think we have to wait two years…
FVV? Bulls fans? Bring your boy home to Rockford!
Looks like Barrett is out if Lavine is in.
LolKnicks back in effect. It was only a matter of time.
DRose (Southside Chicago legend), Fournier, Obi & 4 future 1sts to the Bulls for Zach & (Mt Vernon legend) Drummond
Horrible deal for the Knicks. Lavine’s contract will be bad soon.
Fourniers contract is bad now. Zach would arguably be the best player on their team & he’s exactly the type of upgrade they need if they wanna actually win a playoff series
Maybe they’d compete in a playoff series, for what, to get crushed by any of the top teams in the east? Attaching yourself to this contract is a great way to ensure mediocrity for a few years. LaVine is a great scorer but absolutely not worth the cap hit.
They’re currently paying $30M+ to Rose & Fournier this yr. Paying that $ to Zach instead would obviously be a huge upgrade
Don’t do it, Knicks.
It’s the most knicksy Knick trade available
Did the Knicks forget who their coach is? They’re gonna bench him because of his defensive efforts
If the Bulls can pull this off, I will be a believer again.
Regardless of any other factor, you don’t trade a player that’s more valuable to you than the team you’re trading him to. That’s why teams have preliminary discussions of players. If the NYK FO values IQ appropriately, he’s shouldn’t be going anywhere. Not for Anunoby, not for LaVine, and not for anyone else. If he’s moved as a piece in a larger deal for any of these guys, then this FO is done or should be.
Would so much rather have the Knicks push for Derozan. Lavine has never won anything in this league and his attitude is not good.
Quickly Barrett Rose Hartienstien and picks for Lavine Drummond and White (or green) …. heard it here first
From a Knicks fan perspective, please God no.
He’s actually a good fit. Doesn’t need to be the main option. He has Randle and Bronson. If you add him to that mix, he can be successful
Please no Knicks, don’t do it! Not that LaVine isn’t a good player or anything, but that contract is ugly. By year three it very well could be an albatross that will be extremely difficult to get out of.
I would rather see the team offer more for O.G. than pick up LaVine if they’re really desperate to trade for a star player.
