Stephen Curry was hot on the court in recent games but he was only hot at the officials and the opposing coach on Sunday. After scoring 125 points combined in wins over the Grizzlies, Lakers and Nuggets, the Warriors superstar had more turnovers (four) than points (three) in the Rockets’ 106-96 win, Anthony Slater of The Athletic notes.
While heading to the locker room at halftime, Curry seemed frustrated about the way he was being defended. He crossed paths with Houston coach Ime Udoka, who said something to Curry that led to a terse exchange.
“When people start complaining about foul calls or crying about physicality, you’ve done your job,” Udoka said. “That’s the first step in winning the battle. So I told my team, when this team starts crying about it, up the intensity, up the aggressiveness, and make the refs adjust to you.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- The Kings owe the Hawks a first-rounder which is top-12 protected in this year’s draft. It’s still very much uncertain whether that pick will be conveyed, given Sacramento’s current status as a play-in team. James Ham of The Kings Beat takes an in-depth look at the scenarios where the Kings might retain the pick.
- Kings forward Jake LaRavia is progressing through his rehab for what is now being called an incomplete scaphoid fracture of his left thumb, Ham tweets. LaRavia, who has been cleared for light on-court workouts, has been sidelined since March 25. He averaged 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game last month.
- What should the Suns do with Bradley Beal this offseason — trade the oft-injured wing, waive him and use the stretch provision to spread out the financial burden, or buy him out? Gerald Bourguet of GoPhnx.com (subscription required) takes a deep dive into each of those possibilities.
“Gerald Bourguet of GoPhnx.com takes a deep dive into each of those possibilities.”
Dana, you need to mention that GoPhnx.com is a paywalled site.
Better yet why tease us with the question from a paywall site?
If the writer had access to the site, why not give us the info?
Why even bring up the article unless the information from the article is provided? Puzzling.
“In other important news, the following website asks the question, is it this or is it that? Here’s the link. By the way, you have to pay to read it. Have a great day.”
Paywalling the good journalism destroyed this country. All journalism should be free. Notice how the bad guys never paywall their stuff, they blast it from everywhere for free.
If I were Kings. I pull a Sixers now. Keep that pick. 12th pick is a nice pick. Get stronger for next year. Could find their oG there.
I’m disappointed in Dana. He missed the Curry response to the Udoka tiff. Well, I guess it might take a bit of an explanation. But, Steph said Ime made dinner reservations at International Smoke, Ayesha’s restaurant, then canceled. Steph’s delivery was funny.
Steph is great for that haha. Udoka is a fraud Houston was getting calls all game and allowed to be physical as hell and they still complained about every call that didn’t go their way. Not too mention the constant flopping from sengun
Is this a GS fan taking about opponents flopping and not getting calls? Oh how the mighty have fallen. lol
Did you watch the game? If not, then shhhhhhhh
Everyone loves to hate on Beal but truth is he is still a really solid basketball player. He’s the third option and is putting up 17 points 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds. That’s playing off of an almost career low in minutes and shots per game.
He’s still very efficient with shooting marks of 50-38-80. He averaged less than 2 turnovers per game, and was about on par with his career averages in steals and blocks.
Also while we are at it the Suns rank as the 10th best offence and in part some of that has to be part of Beal.
He’s also only 31, it’s not like he’s Paul George at 34 or something. Granted he is on massive money but that contract runs out in 2 years time (after this season), it’s really not that bad.
Given the opportunity and on the right team he’d easily still average 25 points per game. He’s just clearly not a fit in Pheonix. I don’t know how they thought two shooting guards would work with a score first SF. Clearly someone is not going to be getting touches and shot attempts.
Looking at possible destinations, Orlando ranked as the 4th worst offence this season, 2nd worst in EFG% and 3rd worst in true shooting %. They did well cause they had the 3rd best defence and because they play in the East.
Beal would be a huge upgrade for them. Give up Issac, KCP and either Houston or Howard plus a second rounder.
Suns as I said top 10 offence but 4th worst defence. KCP and Issac would not only be easier to move in another deal but if kept upgrade the defence.
That would be great if Bradley Beal played more games and was more reliable to show up. Orlando could definitely use a dynamic guard who can score.
Not exactly use but think he’s still managed 50 games this season which in todays world is the average amount for star nba players hahaha
Udoka solved Curry…damn
Come on. That flagrant on Draymond for a 2 handed layup was f***ing insane. That was one of the poorest officiated games I have ever seen, and thats saying something with refs the last couple years…
That ref should be fired for lying. The “Wind up and follow through” Taylor stated as being the reason for the flagrant obviously didn’t happen.
And allowing all the contact, hacking, grabbing and holding the Rockets made on Steph who had 0 ftas illustrates the refs’ bias perfectly.
I keep thinking about making a youtube account where I just use the NBA.tv multi angle and synergy tracking to just show how bad the refs are with a little video after every game.
Chap, you don’t have that kind of time. That would be a full-time job for sure. And it wouldn’t be a little video. It would be a major undertaking !!
You can’t get open if the refs don’t call holding on rockets. Just be glad the refs helped rockets. Even knocked on the ground shooting a 3 no call.
That Draymond call in the Rockets game was an absolute joke. That is not a foul. His arms were in the normal position.
The refs hate GSW and always have, because they don’t want to see Curry get the 15-20 FTs a game he earns because that means he will avg 45 a game and it will very obvious who the GOAT is, which Bron does not want people to see.
The Refs doesn’t like Green so why surprised? If it was LeBron it would have been a N 1
They don’t like him on defense, I haven’t seen the refs hate Draymond doing a very normal drive to the hoop that Senflop played the refs into reversing before. Anyone with eyes saw that play was a clean basketball play.
The martyr complex of GS fans is laughable.
Real NBA fans like an even game being called not when 1 team is allowed to flop and hold players.
The easy takes of casual fans is laughable.
The NBA needs to have all refs on same page not each crew call the game different
If you watch any Warriors ever you would know they get a road whistle at home, and Curry gets the least “star whistle” of any superstar ever. He just shouldnt get calls because he doesnt whine at the refs like Bron/Luka?
I always look at the Vegas line on games. If they are favored they don’t get the whistle the first half. Somebody bet on Rockets.
The problem with the Houston game is that the Warriors tried to out-tough a tough team. Can’t do it.
They have to play their game and not meet toughness head on with one guy versus 3.
That’s not how the Warriors are made up. They need to keep playing their game and their style and what’s made them successful.
You try to match up with a 10 in toughness and all you have is a 6, you’re going to lose every time.
PS and there’s some Dubs fans who can’t understand why Gary Payton is on the roster.
But Gary, GSW has beaten Houston 3x already this year. They HAVE “out-toughed” them before.
Curry’s tailbone injury, the rookies being rookies, the refs never calling anything on Curry that they call for every other player = Houston W
Kerr playing GP2 and Buddy when they are too small and are washed/can’t D up anymore is also why we lose. Every other player is gelling together, it’s important playoff-implication time, why is Kerr still trying to find minutes for everyone? Trim the roster to 8 or 9 guys like EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING!!!
GSW were literally unbeatable when GP2 was injured, he comes back, we lose. See the logic?
GPII does good basketball things. He does every little thing right. He was also playing with a healing torn ligament in his thumb. I thought Kerr made some mistakes with the rotation where Kuminga was looking good but didnt return till like 3 min left in the 4th. He was closing but almost no min in the second half which makes little sense.
