Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns recently underwent unspecified procedures to deal with his bruised left knee and to repair ligament damage in his left finger, reports Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com.
As Shelburne writes, Towns sustained the finger injury in New York’s second-round series against Boston and hurt his knee in the Eastern Conference Finals vs. Indiana.
The 29-year-old big man had his injuries reevaluated after the Knicks were eliminated by the Pacers, according to Shelburne, who hears from sources that Towns opted to have the procedures right away in order to maximize his recovery timeframe ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Towns, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2015 draft, had a productive first season with the Knicks, having been named to his fifth All-Star team and earning a spot on the All-NBA Third Team for the third time.
Towns is under contract through ’27/28 and will be extension-eligible this offseason, Shelburne notes. His current deal will pay him approximately $110MM in guaranteed money over the next two seasons, with a $61MM player option for the final year.
NYK need to work with KAT, but an extension this summer would be a mistake. The NYK essentially have their core (save Bridges) under contract for 3 more years, and should preserve flexibility after that. Bridges they have to extend, or trade.
4 Sureee đź’…
Having him through 27-28 is more than enough.
Ok have to ask, here’s the rub
Kat for Kd, Wiz jump in take Pj Tucker get their own first back give Phx some of the Beal 2nds back for value while making it all legal and painless for everyone
Kd signs the JButler ext immediately essentially making it the same contract as KAT (maybe even 1~2 M less per year)
You In?…..** Probably takes some KD interference/nudging but KAT would fit pretty well in PHX and would be by far the best player they could net back w him 1v1 with only 1 year remaining on his contract. KDS certainly not against nudging
@Cap – I’m good with the moving KAT part. I’m just not sold on using all that space under the 2nd Apron on KD, at his age. IMO, he’s too fragile to stay healthy for the entire 3 year window, and too much of a diva to incorporate into the NYK existing culture.
Kudos though, it does work, by talent and the numbers. Considering this is a very hard environment for two teams in win-now mode to do a deal with each other, it might be TOGIT if the NYK decide to move KAT. FWIW, though, I’d be very surprised if Rose is looking to move KAT. Of course, I was surprised he fired Thibs.
He needs a heart transplant.
And a removal of zest
Really?? I didn’t see that reported anywhere. That’s pretty serious?
Towns had a solid year for Knicks. His first year here. Imo the heavy mins affected him most in playoffs. Still his D was exposed. NY will never support a 1Way star. Has to be a serviceable big man on D. Best way to help there. Is by adding a true defensive stud at the 4. And Hart ain’t the one.
Saw the title and thought it was referring to his entitled ego.
“Unspecified procedures” is basically that. They have procedures for bruised knees? It’s literally only to save face for being exposed. Same with Josh Hart “asking” to be benched. It’s complete made up nonsense to make fragile people appear to have a reason why they aren’t performing effectively enough.
