The Nets possess four first-round picks in this month’s draft, including the No. 8 overall selection. They are reportedly pursuing another top-10 pick, NetsDaily tweets.
According to NetsDaily, Brooklyn may try to move its second-highest pick at No. 19 and Cameron Johnson to the Raptors for the No. 9 pick or the Rockets at No. 10, taking back a “bad contract” in the process. However, both of those teams might be a little reluctant to move their picks before learning whether Milwaukee makes Giannis Antetokounmpo available, as Toronto and Houston are both regarded as potential landing spots for the Bucks’ superstar.
Here’s more on the Nets:
- The Nets are positioned to follow the blueprint that led the Pacers and Thunder to the Finals, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes. Both of those organizations chose to find young, defensive-minded players with rotations that go 10-deep, rather than stacking three superstars and fitting low-cost pieces around them.
- Oklahoma freshman guard Jeremiah Fears is ranked No. 7 on ESPN’s big board and NetsDaily’s Lucas Kaplan takes a long look at whether Fears could be the Nets’ long-term solution at the point. Kaplan notes that Fears, 18, had a high usage rate for an Southeastern Conference team and many defenders couldn’t stay in front of him, often resorting to fouling him.
- In this year’s draft alone, the Nets acquired the Nos. 19, 26 and 36 picks from the Mikal Bridges trade. How they use those picks will help determine whether the Nets or Knicks wind up as the ultimate winner in the deal, according to another NetsDaily.com story.
I feel that Spurs and Rockets are waiting for Giannis decision before acquiring Durant
If Durant is traded before the draft,
Wolves
Knicks
Wolves won’t be able to acquire Garland or Holiday because all teams plan to reduce the payrolls
Please don’t get everyone started, everyone saying Cam Johnson, Cam Johnson is a all star, Cam Johnson is a amazing player, Cam Johnson is the perfect power forward. Ughhhh don’t get these new age fans going. They all think Cam Johnson is amazing. If you understood basketball then you know he is only a sixth man SF at best with a horrible contract
Scorers get all the hype…
Basketball is a 2 way game…
Who said any of these things?
At least four different people
give me 1 person who said Cam Johnson is an allstar or amazing or perfect pf. I’ll wait.
People on this site. Do you want me to go back in past conversations on this site to start calling names out? Go look at past Spurs rumors on this site and you will see some people saying Cam Johnson is worth trading a pick for.
If you looked at most of the pages on this site then you would have already seen it and not be some random troll trolling me
Please will the people who think Cam Johnson is amazing can you please post here so ShaqFoo can be enlightened and surprise his ego because I’m not waisting my time to make you happy
Being worth trading a FRP for is now the equivalent of saying that someone is an AS or a perfect pf…? I mean, I have seen hyperbole in my day, but that takes the cake. If you can’t make a point without that sort of exaggeration then maybe it’s not a very good point.
Texas Notes: J. Green, Rockets, Draft, Mavericks. Go look. I’ll find 10 more for you okay captain
Since it will take a few seasons, the Nets should load up on bigs, unless a PG is better than what is available. Bigs take longer. You can move them for more assets later. Don’t use their cap space, unless it is an expiring contract and a pick attached. They can wait on a SG and SF. Use their cap space to retain their key pieces, or that last remaining piece.
Giants74, that is next-level stuff. But go deeper.
Hmm…Sarcastic…😄
Can appreciate the deep thought but I still think they are in best player available mode
Yeah, take the best player available. But, if they view two players as equal, I’d take a Center, or PF, over a SG.
BKN is definitely in BPA mode, but with #3-#9/10 not being definitively scripted, they can likely move up a few spots if they have a preference. They have 3 additional FRPs in this draft alone, and a bunch of future ones from 2027 on, so they have muscle to do it if they find a willing trade partner.
I’m sure they pick up some picks with their cap space, but I doubt that Marks would (at least in the top 10) engage in some form of strategic drafting of guys based on anticipated resale price. At the top of the draft, that’s like buying new cars with the intent to resell them. Value begins to descend as soon as the leave the showroom, so you’d need an early breakout to do better than breakeven. That would be hard for a BKN draftee at C, since that’s the position their one All Star level player plays. Also, BKN ain’t UTH, SAS, etc. They are NOT planning to spend the rest of the decade in tank mode.
All star level player… if you’re talking about Claxton, oh my…. he’s pretty far from being an AS. There is no need to overrate the rim running ability he has. He can catch a lob and block a shot. Is that the bar to be an AS these days??
Claxton is a special defender, beyond just blocks and rim protection. He has the lateral quickness to cover 1-5 at an elite level, and still protect the rim from the weakside. That’s invaluable in today’s game. I don’t know many people that care about top line offensive stats when discussing a C, but OK.
Again, I think the Nets will try and be creative and get another pick in the lottery but not because anyone will do them a favor, but because they can help others facilitate deals using their cap space and maybe by consolidating picks.
But I actually hope they hold onto Cam Johnson. He can be valuable at the mid season trade deadline. There’s no need to rush into a deal for him.
Maybe pels trade for Cam Johnson…
Trading for another top ten pick is a solid move to me. Lottery is loaded with future starters. This draft cause of all the 19 yr olds going first. There will be gems at end of first rd. Fears is a solid talent at PG. Maluach should be Nets top choice. Think Mutombo with some offense.
A poor man’s Mutombo with some offense*
I agree the Nets need all the young talent they can get. Trading Cam Johnson and Claxton should be done to aquire more picks
You are right that Fears and Maluach would be a perfect get for Brooklyn
I don’t know how much you follow the Nets. I watch every Nets game. Nic Claxton is not a good player.. there are 20 Centers you would rather have. He is not a special defender and offense certainly matters.
All that said, if teams are looking for rim protection to fill a void on their roster, the Nets should cash him in. He’s not a difference maker on the current Nets.
I certainly don’t watch every BKN game. But just as certainly I have seen Claxton enough over the years to form an opinion of him. We have different opinions, but I’ll note that my opinion (and not yours) happens to be consistent with the BKN FO’s opinion, evidenced by what they are paying him (per a contract as recent as last off season when he was a UFA).
You’re saying Marks made a mistake in offering that contract?
I thought it was an overpay, but in the current economic structure of the nba with needing to match money in most trades, contracts like that have value. If the perception of his value is more than his value is to Bklyn, they should be able to get value back for him.
