Appearing on a live stream in Greece on Thursday with YouTube personality IShowSpeed, Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked if his plan is to remain in Milwaukee going forward.
“Probably,” Antetokounmpo said (Twitter video link). “We’ll see. Probably. I love Milwaukee.”
While any public statement that Antetokounmpo makes about his future is notable, it’s hard to draw any definitive conclusions from those brief comments — they’re pretty much what you’d expect him to say if he hasn’t requested a trade but also hasn’t yet decisively committed to not asking for a trade. And by all accounts, that’s where his situation currently stands.
As we wait for a more conclusive update on Giannis’ future, the Bucks and their fans can take solace in the “probably” part of his response on Thursday, while potential suitors will likely be emboldened by the “we’ll see.”
Here’s more from around the Central:
- After signing with the Bucks on Monday following 10 years in Indiana, Myles Turner published a farewell to Pacers fans on his Instagram account on Thursday. “This chapter is closing, but the respect and love I have for this city and its people is forever,” Turner wrote within a much longer statement. “Thank you Indy, from the bottom of my heart. I mean it when I say The 317 will always be home. And I’ve been proud to call myself a Hoosier! I hope you continue to embrace me as much as I’ve always embraced you!”
- Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star shares three takeaways from the Pacers‘ victory in their first Las Vegas Summer League game on Thursday, noting that two-way players RayJ Dennis (26 points, nine assists) and Quenton Jackson (24 points on 8-of-10 shooting) were among the standouts. It would be a boon for the Pacers if Dennis emerges as a reliable option at the NBA level, Dopirak observes, since the team will be on the lookout for additional point guard depth with Tyrese Haliburton out for the entire 2025/26 season.
- Pistons second-round pick Chaz Lanier believes he’s capable of “immediately” playing a role for his new NBA team as a rookie, he told reporters during his introductory press conference this week. “Coming in to do whatever they need me to do,” Lanier said, per Coty M. Davis of The Detroit News. “Coming in and making shots when I need to. … I am a shooter first, that is what I hang my hat on; putting the ball in the basket. However, I believe that at the NBA level, you need to be able to make an impact on defense. That is how I plan on making my mark.”
- Pistons forward Ron Holland, who turned 20 on Monday, was pleased that he was able to earn an every-game rotation role as a rookie last season, but he feels like he “left a lot on the table” and “could’ve done more,” as Omari Sankofa II of The Detroit Free Press relays (subscription required). “That’s definitely putting a chip on my shoulder and being able to go into next season trying to thrive and get better every single day,” Holland said.
Fans should not be annoyed or mad at Giannis for saying “probably” because that is just how it should be. If someone said “are you going to stay at your current job forever” – and you like said job, you would say “probably”. Because if stuff starts to really suck at your job in the future and leadership is terrible and makes bad decisions, then you would want to move on to a new company at that point. You can’t know what life at your job will be in the future, even if its good right now.
I think the media is gaslighting and overreacting to Giannis being on the market. He publicly hasn’t stated that he wants out. Giannis isn’t AD or others. He knows his value for Milwaukee and around the league. I personally think that trading Middleton was a terrible decision. They had a good squad last few years, just had bad injury luck and questionable coaching decisions. Also, matchups came into equation for this. I hope Giannis stays in Milwaukee. It would be good for the league to have a small market team with a top 20 all time talent remain there for his entire career.
Because Giannis trade rumors are click bait. It’s all been click bait. Giannis’ actions and words have never suggested he would seek a trade. This has all been about hits on websites for writers. That’s why we don’t get mad at Giannis.
Writers just being writers. And a bunch of hot air on TV and radio. 👎🏼😑
Giannis will definitely stay for this season.
Then he will be weighing up the future again this time at 31 and in the final year of his contract with a player option for another.
If it’s money and legacy then stay in Milwaukee. But if he wants another title then it’s either trade and get something back for the bucks or play out another season and walk in FA to a team of your choosing.
It’s to the point Milwaukee need him to stay to keep being competitive cause they don’t own their picks. But at the same time if you keep him and pay him you’re potentially making a future rebuild harder cause I don’t see his play style being nearly as productive and efficient as he gets older. They needed to just eat Dames deal for the next two years and trade Giannas in order to rebuild with cap space atleast.
Now they have no picks and dead money plus a potential Giannas situation.
For now I’d be looking to trade Kuzma who just had a horrible season for a more productive guard and start Prince in his place.
Even if it’s only for a DeRozan/Monk return, or Jalen Green.
Either way any of the 3 would be a good sidekick for Giannas and small improvement
I wouldn’t trade Kuz just yet, I get your and others logic though. He was HORRIBLE. Arguably the worst player in the league in the 2nd half. However, I do think him having an entire offseason just using that fuel and how much his stock has dropped to come out and ball next year. If he can be that player he was in DC, Giannis has another shooter for him. I think if they do trade him, any move would have to result in Ayo being on the Bucks. It would have to be a 3 team deal, possibly Bucks/Bulls and Miami or Hornets with Miles Bridges? Just a thought, don’t take me seriously lol.
How does trading a 10 million dollar salary for an 11 million dollar salary earn you a penalty? This truly a league run by morons.
The Bucks won’t get any of those players for Kuzma. Zero % chance…. Unless he goes off to start the season…. Hmmmm..No actually. Even then, that’s a stretch. Don’t hold your breath.
I like your idea of Jalen Green. Flawed player, but he’s still young enough to take a chance on for right price
Giannis is content with being a 1 and done champion. Non story.
One and done champion ? You are talking about Giannis but you can say the same about your time . At least the Bucks have won more Championships than your franchise.Non story.
Dude is a broken record.
You’re too concerned about my views the_greasy_one. Give your insight and move on. Worrying about me doesn’t add money to your account.
Bucks have 2, raps have 1. Suns, magic, jazz, pels, grizz, wolves kings never won. If my comment changed the trajectory of your life Adonis 2 that’s a you problem.
Do you need to see a doctor or something? You seem unwell.
Trolling is very pathetic aircastle I don’t know you and you ain’t ish to me. Go find someone else to tolerate you.
It’s getting old every time a player changes teams they draft a letter or some crap to the city they chose to leave. You didn’t win or accomplish anything while you were there. The level of narcissism in sports these days is appalling.
It’s really a next season (maybe deadline) issue at this point. The mere fact that MIL compromised their cap/tax situation to get Turner probably means GA is going to back off at least until then. Would he really OK the Turner deal and then say he wants out? Likewise, MIL knows that they can deal GA at the deadline or even next off season for about the same consideration they’ll get now.
Are indy fans gonna love on myles when he returns to play ?
Not his fault ownership didnt want to pay him
Buck fans should be happy with one Championship with Giannis. They may not get a second
