6:35 pm: The Warriors have waived Francis, Moni and McMillian, the team announced (Twitter link).
3:15 pm: The Warriors have officially confirmed Spencer’s two-way contract (Twitter link).
3:09 pm: Free agent point guard Pat Spencer is back under contract with the Warriors, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN, who reports (via Twitter) that Spencer signed a new two-way deal with the team on Monday.
Spencer, 29, spent parts of the last two seasons on a two-way deal with Golden State before being promoted to the standard 15-man roster in March. He appeared in 39 games for the Warriors in 2024/25, averaging 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 6.4 minutes per contest and posting a shooting line of .406/.227/.733.
With Spencer back under contract and second-rounder Alex Toohey officially signed earlier today, the Warriors now have all three of their two-way slots filled, as Spencer and Toohey join Jackson Rowe. The club still has a two-way qualifying offer on the table for Australian guard Taran Armstrong, but reporting from MozzartSport indicates Armstrong is in talks with the Serbian club KK Partizan.
If Armstrong signs with a non-NBA team, the Warriors would have the ability to continue issuing him qualifying offers in future seasons to retain his RFA rights — the club has done the same thing with Nico Mannion in recent years.
While the Warriors haven’t put out a formal press release confirming Spencer’s deal yet, the team did announce several other non-guaranteed signings today. Golden State published a press release (via Twitter) announcing deals for forwards Ja’Vier Francis and Jacksen Moni, along with guard Chance McMillian, then issued a second statement (via Twitter) to confirm it has also signed center Marques Bolden and guards LJ Cryer and Taevion Kinsey.
Golden State’s agreements with Francis, McMillian, Cryer, and Kinsey were previously reported. Moni is an undrafted rookie out of North Dakota State who played with San Antonio’s Summer League team in July, while Bolden is a three-year NBA veteran who has appeared in games for Cleveland, Charlotte, and Milwaukee since debuting in 2020. Bolden’s G League rights were acquired by the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G League team, in August.
All six of those players figure to end up with Santa Cruz, either as affiliate players or returning rights players. They almost certainly all received Exhibit 10 contracts, which will make them eligible for bonuses worth up to $85,300 if they spend at least 60 days with the Warriors’ NBAGL squad.
The order of the signings is worth noting. After officially adding Gary Payton II and Will Richard earlier today, the Warriors had 11 players on their standard roster, which means Francis, Moni, and McMillian got them to 14. Teams aren’t permitted to sign contracts with Exhibit 9 language until they have at least 14 players on standard contracts, so those three players presumably didn’t get Exhibit 9 clauses, whereas Bolden, Cryer, and Kinsey probably did.
Since Exhibit 9 deals give teams injury protection in the event of an injury in training camp or the preseason, I’d expect Francis, Moni, and McMillian to be waived before they suit up in any preseason games for the Warriors, so that the team doesn’t risk a major injury that would require them to pay any of those players’ full salaries.
Golden State now officially has 20 players under contract, with Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, and Jonathan Kuminga still to sign, so some of those cuts figure to happen within the next day or two.
Did I see that Coleman Hawkins decided not to sign with them and went to Denver instead?
There was one report that suggested that was his plan — still no official word on a deal with Denver.
I’m assuming that Hawkins had a GLEAGUE deal? Didn’t they just sign Moses Brown? Might get kinda crowded. I’ve been following Hawkins for a few years now hoping the Warriors would take him. But, it seems the Kuminga delay soured him on the Warriors. Win some, you lose some.
I saw that. Coleman should have declared last year
Someone give Jacksen Moni a two way contract. Perfect PF
Oh yeahhhh. Welcome back Pat Spencer!
Pat Spencer the energy guy off the bench.
And what are GP2 and Podz? Spencer is NOT the guy we need here.
I agree, Davey. But I think he’s just an emergency stop gap who won’t hurt you when you put him in.
All the development will go towards Will Richard. He could turn into something if he develops what he needs to.
But you keep Spencer around as guy number 14. He knows the system if someone goes down You can plug him in while you look for a replacement. I don’t know. I’d rather have a young guy with potential than Pat Spencer too, but I can see why they keep him around.
SMH Spencer is a 2 way player which means he only plays when players are resting or injured.
“What’s development”?
-Steve Kerr
“What’s development? I have a game to win tonight. Why don’t you ask the 10 coaches that are hired for that specific job?
“Or.., maybe.., you can ask the player?”
-Steve Kerr.
Is he going to het playing time over Toohey, Armstrong, and Richard?
Probably. Makes sense to do that.
I think Toohey has a way to go and won’t make the team. I believe the same with Armstrong. I don’t know enough about these guys, but it’s my understanding from everything I read.
I think Will Richard has a chance to make the team. He’s a four-year college guy and can be a Gary Payton type.
What he needs to do is learn how to handle the ball and become DeAndre Melton. A 6-3 shooting guard who can play the point And do the things DeAndre does like playing great defense, hitting the three ball, etc.
I also think they signed Richard to a creative contract for four years, which makes his salary a little lower than what it could’ve been?
That tells me they’ll keep him on the team instead of automatically sending him to Santa Cruz. But that’s just a guess.
So Pat Spencer? He showed last year he can play spot minutes and not hurt you. So he’ll make the team and do his thing. As far as playing time, different guys will play in different situations. Every guy will get a shot at 20 minutes here and there every few weeks.
It looks like Armstrong is off to Serbia.
He’s going to get playing time over Kuminga and Moody, like he did last year.
Waive Rowe
Kuminga for Keagan Murray, Dylan Cardwell two way contract, cash and a 2nd
So now Jonathan Kuminga is telling teammates he wants to be with the Warriors lol.
So that part of the equation is finally coming to fruition.
He’s realizing the golden goose is not out there and he needs to become a better player first lol.
Well, it’s never too late to swallow your pride, come back home and play ball.
Seems like his Warriors teammates are willing to let it be water under the bridge.
OK, great that plugs a big hole in the front court. Let’s go Warriors !!!
Source for this?
2 sound bites from one interview.
First one “he still wants to be here.”

Second one “teammates are OK with it” water under the bridge.

Gary, as somebody that hopes Kuminga signs an extension, I took nothing positive or negative from it.
Everything Draymond and Kerr said was completely predictable. Players will always protect other players’ pursuit of the dollar.
OK Ari that makes sense. Thank you.
Gary, something happened to me after all these signings today: I realized this was our final roster (JK gone soon), and it’s a lot less than I’d been counting on. This was an awful off-season.
I really like our 4 vet starters. When healthy, they should be top 8-10 in the league. But this bench is so weak. Small, slow, no offense. Unless our starters stay miraculously healthy, this team won’t win more than 42-43. Bookmakers have been unimpressed, they now have us at ~43-44 wins.
What are your thoughts on this final roster?
Wait till opening day ari. There will be some tweaks or a trade.
I honestly feel 100% about this… Moses Moody has to go. The Warriors can’t really be serious about keeping him on the roster this year. I’ll pull my hair out. I’ll actually not watch the games because of it.
Maybe dumped with JK tomorrow? Fingers crossed !!
This is not the final roster. They’re just committing go all these minimum guys. Those aren’t real roster guys.
@gary,. Please rank your favorite Warriors, 1-3:
Trace Jackson-Davis
Jonathan Kuminga
Moses Moody
Favorite? Please allow me to reword that question because it doesn’tmatter who my favorite guys are.
Rank those guys in order of who I want on the floor of a team I was coaching?
Rank those three in order if I needed a guy to win a game for me either on the offensive or defensive end?
Rank those three players in order as it relates to my opinion regarding their effectiveness on the floor and winning a game?
OK, let’s try the last one. Maybe the best choice.
Number one, Jonathan Kuminga. Out of those three guys, I trust him offensively, defensively, intellectually will run the play called, will do the right thing at the right time in any given moment.
Number two Jackson Davis. He won’t really affect the game much but he won’t hurt you that much. He’ll probably be a net zero versus his man at the five spot as long as we’re not playing against an All-Star center.
He’ll do the picks. He’ll get a rebound here and there he’ll run the floor and keep the other center honest in that regard. He’s about as mid as a player can be.
Number three Moses Moody. Unless he’s spotting up for a three ball, this man will hurt you on the floor. Team morale craters as he dribbles off his own foot out of bounds, falls down, then perhaps jogs back as the last guy on defense. (Quick side note here, in four years I’ve never seen Moses Moody sprint or go 110% running from one place to another. Never seen it.)
He’ll drive to the hole maybe twice per game in his eight minutes and have his Stuff sent to the third row and then he’ll fall down and not get back on defense until after the other team has taken advantage of a five on four.
Moody won’t do anything positive with the ball on the perimeter either. If someone does pass to him, he’ll immediately without hesitation look to get rid of it and desperately search for a teammate to be the recipient of a very short distance pass. Usually this winds up being a handoff so he minimizes turnover possibilities.
Defensively Moody has to play the four because he’s too slow to guard one two or three. Those players on the floor, playing those positions for the other team, routinely blow by Moses, putting our postman in a precarious position of guarding two guys because after being burned, Moses Moody will not be part of the play in dropping back to cover the now open big man of the other team.
Moses will be in no man’s land guarding no one 12 feet from the basket and out of rebounding position should the Warriors five man successfully alter the shot in this example of help defense.
That’s how I would rank them. How about yourself? Or anyone else for that matter?
@Gary, that is a tour de force in sports journalism. I was expecting something like “sucks, sucks more, sucks most”. But it sounds like Moody has a special place in your heart.
Mostly, I was wondering which of the 3 you’d prefer to trade, and now I know.
@aristotle
No question that the team is old and injury prone. Clearly, the hope is that they’re healthy and will win more than their share of the early back to backs and then make it to the playoffs healthy.
IMO they end up about the same as last season, if only by getting more wins vs the weakest east in years.
@NBAisOK, That sounds sane.
For the past couple of years, I’ve bought into Lacob’s plan that the “young core” (Podz, JK, Moody, now Post) would rise as the old guys faded, and I suppose I’m depressed to see that’s just not going to happen. The end of an era is nigh.
As a long-time season ticket holder, which has brought me so much joy over the years, I’ve hoped that the winning would never stop. The ticket (I actually pay for only one only, and a close friend has the other) feels like such an extravagance (the money should go to the next generation), and I can’t justify the cost. I’m bracing to say “goodbye”.
My guess is that the cost of a season ticket isn’t going to make much difference to your progeny, IMO you’ve got to keep the faith while Steph is still playing even if they are clearly in decline. They might get lucky and be healthy by the playoffs, it’s certainly possible.
Once he’s done, sure.
> My guess is that the cost of a season ticket isn’t
> going to make much difference to your progeny,
I wish. Have you seen the cost of college tuition lately?
I’m 69 and my kids are both long since out of school, so no.
How much is 1 season ticket at Chase currently?
I’m younger than you, but, hard to believe, with grandkids. Don’t ask about ticket price, please :–). More than college tuition.
I don’t personally like Draymonds half media trained way of speaking nor do I think he’s being totally honest but I do believe Kuminga said he wants to be in Golden State. I also believe it was probably followed by “at the right price” or something that got that point across.
I definitely do believe the team isn’t trying to hold his feet to the fire about it. Lots of those guys would probably have the same dilemma if it were them in JK shoes. Also kind of hard beat JK up about it when Jimmy has taken on such a vocal leadership role and what he did last season.
Interesting for sure but I don’t think it’s a game changer.
@Gary
Hearsay, but from someone who should know.
Thankfully, only 1 full day remaining.
On yet another weird note, the Warriors said Kerr and Dunleavy are going to skip media day today…
Oops, that should have read Kerr and Dunleavy skipped media day yesterday, my mistake.

If Kuminga learns to do what the coaches want him to do, and listens to Draymond and Butler, he could thrive. It is really up to him.
Thanks to Kerr, Pat Spencer will get playing time over Kuminga and Moody, who have 1000000x more talent than this lacrosse make a wish kid.
Davey, I think the only time you saw Spencer play ahead of Moody was when they were making that comeback in the playoffs and the bench was shortening the other teams lead.
Moody had the injured hand and wasn’t shooting that well so Kerr threw Spencer in there and it worked for a while
But during the regular season, I don’t think he’ll play much at all. There’s 12 guys ahead of him and one developmental rookie Who will play ahead of him in blowouts.
I think the playoffs last year when Spencer shined was an aberration. But it did show why they keep him around. They’ve been watching what he does in practice for two years.
The main thing is that, as always, Kerr won’t use the two-way’s on a rebounder, and that will lose us 2-3 games,Iike every year. Do we ever tire of making Nemas Queta and Biskack Biyombo look.like Shaq?
We’ve got about 8 guard/ball-handlers in addition to Spencer. We have ZERO power forwards other than Draymond, who will prolly miss his usual 25 games.
This is an inexcusably small, imbalanced roster. We’re gonna lose a lot of games by 40 points.
Even though the Warriors lost out on Coleman Hawkins, there might be something to look forward to in Jacksen Moni. He has size, versatility, and can shoot. He sounds like a late bloomer. Maybe Santa Cruz can work there magic like they did with Post.
But why did you resign Payton?
Something we need to know Kerr?
Spencer has to be the oldest 2-way in the league. Dudes like 29
—- The Countdown —-
There is one day left, 24 hrs to Kuminga signing his QO. Warriors have already signed Horford, Melton, Payton ………. Kuminga will be leaving at end of year. Will he be a good soldier and help Warriors this year.
Could Warriors pull off a last minute deal. Do they want to ?? It’s come down to ONE day.
Sunshine blue skies ……. please go away
Excellent comment Al. I think that’s all accurate. You make great points here. Well done.
