This week's Front Office mailbag covers a blockbuster trade idea. The question has been lightly edited for clarity.
Greg asks:
Do you see any logic at the deadline of a three-team deal like this:
- Bucks receive: Karl-Anthony Towns, Jerami Grant, Miles McBride, their picks back from Portland and second-rounders from Knicks.
- Knicks receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyle Kuzma, Gary Trent Jr.
- Trail Blazers receive: Mikal Bridges
- Note: Bridges can't be traded until February 1, 2026.
In this case the Bucks can stay competitive for a few years and have control of their picks from '28 and beyond. Portland gets off Grant deal. Thoughts?
Before I get into whether I see the logic in this blockbuster trade idea, let's first take a quick look at the mechanics involved.
This is how you tease a segment!
The Bucks are not trading the best player in franchise history for the terrible contracts of KAT and Grant unless they are getting 10 picks back.
Agree just silly
Im one that thinks G will leave by/before/ at summer 27
I believe (not hard) that he wants NYK….but I just cant see how it happens with the little assets they have
Even if NYK got rid of Kat and Hart somehow before summer 2027 G couldn’t walk into NYK’s cap that summer as JB, Bridges , Anounoby wouldn’t leave enough room
I like when the Knicks are good and MSG is rocking but I cant help but wonder if we look back in 2030 and scorn the KAT/Bridges deals for what they potentially prohibited rather than for what they actually did
I cant see a KAT team going the distance. Bird in hand obv means something but bird that flew away might be the narrative we are left with in 2030 and thats a tough pill to swallow. If NYK had the money/assets avail they probably have Giannis today
Why would the Bucks do this?
