De’Anthony Melton‘s season debut may happen sometime next week, the Warriors announced (via Twitter).
Melton has been ruled out for the final two games of the current home stand — tonight against New Orleans and Tuesday vs. Oklahoma City — but he could be available at some point during a three-game road trip to Philadelphia on Thursday, Cleveland next Saturday and Chicago next Sunday.
The team states that Melton has made “good progress” in his recovery from a torn ACL and continues to participate in scrimmages with his teammates and Golden State’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
Melton signed a one-year, $12.8MM contract with the Warriors in July of 2024, but he only appeared in six games before suffering the injury last November. He underwent surgery on December 4 and missed the rest of the season.
He was productive during his brief time on the court, which included two starts, averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 20.2 minutes per night while posting .407/.371/.625 shooting numbers.
Melton re-signed with Golden State in October, agreeing to a $3MM deal that includes a $3.45MM player option for 2026/27. He reached a tentative agreement during the summer, but he was one of several players who had to wait for Jonathan Kuminga‘s contract standoff to be resolved before their deals could be finalized.
Melton is expected to play a significant role in the Warriors’ rotation once he returns. The 27-year-old combo guard has seen his career slowed by injuries lately, but he received Sixth Man of the Year votes with Memphis in 2021/22.
Warriors lineup for tonight: Podz, Moody, Butler, Green, Post. So, for once, a real basketball lineup. Kuminga not starting? Is he still benched?
Watch him sub Richard and GP2 at Forward the first chance he gets. At some point in the game, we will see small ball, because Kerr is predictable, which we all know, is a very bad thing to be as a coach.
I believe Kuminga is still out with the knee tendinitis.
He’s not on the injured list anymore, GP2 is active too.
Ooops ! I guess my information is old lol
I wonder how Kuminga will be used tonight! Would be a great confidence booster if he got 30-odd minutes, wouldn’t it?
Well right now halfway through the first quarter Jonathan Kuminga is the center. How do you like that?
No. It would be stupid to play him 30+ minutes tonight. He’s been out 3 weeks. He is not in basketball shape. It would be over use. He needs to build up the muscles around both knees to keep this injury from happening again. If he doesn’t, it will keep happening and shorten his career.
Kuminga a +2 in 19 minutes….nice work Steve. Way to give him every chance of developing his game in a normal starting 5 with 2 guards, 2 forwards and a C.
One thing all us Dubs fans can agree on: Buddy Hield at 17 mins for a -14 has been absolutely atrocious every single game and is washed up and needs to go immediately.
Post with 17 mintues despite starting….god I hate Steve Kerr. Kerr is such an absolute moron at his job. Literally any poster on here could coach the 2025-26 Golden State Warriors better than Steve “9 shooting guards is all I need” Kerr.
Wait until Seth is activated; he’s the epitome of a one-trick pony. Offers ZERO other than being able to shoot 3s.
Thanks for the latest info. Found this on the Internet just now.
Jonathan Kuminga has been cleared to play after missing seven games with knee tendinitis and is available for the Golden State Warriors’ game today against the Pelicans. He had been limited in practice but fully participated in a scrimmage, with the team making his game-time decision based on his condition. Prior to the injury, coach Steve Kerr had moved him to a bench role.
Well he can’t hurt. Of course, being out for a year he’s gonna take two months of slow going and ramping up. But maybe by February he’ll be counted as one of the studs?
I still say it’ll be a very interesting trade deadline this year. Will the Warriors be 20–30 or 24-25 and still have a little hope for the six seed after a hot streak?
Melton still thawin
Another banger, well done lmao
Loved the Looney tribute tonight. Well deserved. Fantastic.
2021-22 was a long time ago. Warriors need another ball-handler/playmaker. Melton can only help. Horford out is going to hurt. Nerve issues on the spine is not something you want with an older player. Warriors should really be looking into Brook Lopez.
Good to see JK playing. Podz looking good tonight.
It was vs the worst team in the league and they lost 2 quarters to them. Not an impressive game at all, but one GSW was lucky to win.
Name any other team in NBA history where the head coach created no offensive profile outside of 1 player, regularly getting exposed over and over, yet the coach somehow never gets fired even though he deserves to be?
I agree with you about this. Kerr offense is built for guards and wings. Yet he doesn’t have the ball-handlers/playmakers to run it. Jimmy and Steph are better off the ball. And Podz, Payton, Buddy don’t really do that. Today Payton n Podz looked good. You need that every game.
Like the W’s, the Thunder feature two All Star types and wings that can hit from deep. Here’s what else OKC puts on the floor:
1) youth/pace
2) two defensive stoppers at all times
3) Big man, huge actually, to control the boards and the defensive paint
