The Lakers got a scoring boost from Jake LaRavia in Friday’s win over Memphis, writes
“When I just talk about roles and the amount of hats that I can wear with this team, some nights, this is what happens,” LaRavia said. “Other nights I’m that defender, connector, crasher, like all that kind of stuff. So just continuing to play confidently throughout but also understanding what my role is going to be each game.”
Nguyen notes that the Lakers targeted LaRavia in free agency because of his combination of three-point shooting and defensive versatility. He has helped the team survive a rash of early-season injuries, but his scoring has fluctuated as he’s moved in and out of the rotation. Friday marked the first time he has reached 20 points in a game since November 2, and his three-point shooting has dropped to an uncharacteristically low 32% this season.
“I’m just working on my shot, starting with the basics again, and just kind of going from there,” LaRavia said. “And, you know, hopefully I can find my rhythm again. And tonight was just the start.”
There’s more on the Lakers:
- Jaxson Hayes played nearly the entire fourth quarter on Friday, getting crunch-time minutes ahead of starting center Deandre Ayton, Nguyen states in the same piece. Coach JJ Redick explained that he opted to stay with Hayes because “he was playing better.” He finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 23 minutes. “His ability to control the paint for us has been huge,” Marcus Smart said of Hayes.“… Just his ability to go get the ball at the highest point when we throw it and then defensively to alter shots, whether he’s blocking them or just changing shots for us, allows our defense to pick it up from our guards even more. To have that urgency that he brings, that’s huge.”
- Redick promised that Dalton Knecht will get “consistent” playing time over the next few weeks, Nguyen adds. Redick also said the second-year forward will be judged by more than just his shooting percentage.
- Gabe Vincent will miss Sunday’s rematch with Memphis as he continues to experience lower back soreness, but Redick indicated that he might be available during the upcoming road trip to New Orleans and San Antonio, per Khobi Price of The Orange County Register (Twitter link).
- Mirjam Swanson of The Orange County Register contends that the Lakers aren’t good enough to compete for a title with their current roster and calls on general manager Rob Pelinka to be aggressive at the trade deadline to avoid wasting a year of Luka Doncic‘s prime.

Who could the Lakers had got with that 2nd round pick if they never wasted it on Bronny?
Brony was the 55th pick. Nobody from pick 54 on averages more than 3 points per game. So the answer basically nothing

Thanks for posting that. All 3 picks after are still better than Bronny. Just goes to show who runs the Lakers
lol alright my guy. You can go ahead and keep being fake offended about the 55th pick in the draft all you want.
I’m not fake affended. Look at his stats Bronny is awful. It was just a random thought I had nothing more.
Nah you were taking a shot at LeBron, be a man and admit it. You thought you were slick but you’re not. Also if the person that you say “runs the Lakers” blew the 55th pick then I assume that same person also should win executive of the year for bending the Mavs over a table with Luka trade the right?
wtf? What got your panties in a bunch? Let your man crush over LeBron go.
lol my guy you’re the one that brought LeBron and Bronny up in an article that doesn’t mention either of them. You’re just mad the facts don’t back your stupid troll attempt. Hold this L and move on little boy.
I even said thank you for posting that list and you turned into an ahole for no reason. Just another LeBron fanboy who is sad that his career is coming to an end and the Lakers suck. For what it’s worth I think LeBron is the GOAT. Your name should be DarkJoke because you are a complete joke. Back to your hole troll
Get a life lol
Usually with the back end of the second round you can at least expect to pick a perennial MVP, right?
Is that your thinking or just your hatred, really curious about it!
Right because I said what mvp could they have taken. Reading is hard so I really shouldn’t expect much from you.
Sorry fellas, I only mention certain names on the roster other than those who effect the game regarding the article above because you both did first. But Erberus was not wrong in his question and Dark Ghost was in the wrong by turning the original question into some kind of reverse hate! You aren’t,”my guy”,Ghost and LeBron isn’t either but I am thankful that we have him as long as we do in Los Angeles. Although there is something to be said about a,” potential”, all-star in a similar pick, DarkDracula isn’t wrong in what he stated either.
In my humble assessment regarding these matters, the truth is that LeBron James is one of the best to have played the sport and although he has been the leader of our team for 8 seasons or so. This season he is taking on a new role as the sixth man while still being(a)leader. This new role combined with his age is something that has effected everyone on the roster and in the rotation including LeBron himself. Combined with the fact that this is basically a new roster, including Jake Laravia mentioned above. The good news is that they are slowly getting used to one another and their new roles in the team and therefore will continue to get better as the season progresses! Jake is a perfect example of this with his performance tonight, Marcus Smart as well. Hell LeBron continues to prove that he is still able to take control of games and fill any role needed as the season progresses and he plays at a high level even though he’s lost a step or two because he’s literally 41 years old!
About Bronny: We all know that he was picked to satisfy LeBron and as DarkGhost said, if that’s what we have to do to keep the old man happy then management did the right thing by pulling the trigger on that one.
That doesn’t change the fact that Bronny isn’t at a level to be on the roster at this point unless it’s to play in garbage time and get reps in. Which is what Coach Redick used him for. He’s down in the G League working his way up and if a trade opens up where he needs to be in the list of those to go to get that next star athletes then at this point I guarantee that Rob Palinka will have no issues pulling the trigger on that one either.
There are so many new roles and new athletes and new changes being added and subtracted to our team right now that it has the roster and all of us fans spinning and trying to get our heads on straight to where they get some consistency and we get some understanding on where we stand and where we are at in the league both standing wise and as well as depth wise. But we’ll get there, friends. Eventually the Purple and Gold will be back where they should be. If the past has anything to say about it then we will get there again soon.
Picking the kid to keep the old man happy was worth way more than all the picks that came after him combined. If you got to waste the 55th pick of the draft to keep one of your core players happy, you do it every year if necessary. There’s plenty of free agents available that didn’t get drafted that could easily have that you can sign. Low end 2nd rounders are basically useless. I’m not a fan of James but it was the smart play by the Lakers.
I wonder how long he will be on the roster once LeBron leaves the team. A month? Less?
BTW, teams keep around non-functional players in their 15th roster spot all the time, so it’s not really that big of a deal. The Sixers have Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon on the roster this year and neither one of them should still be in the league.
Crazy how the Kings let LaRavia go for seemingly nothing
Next year I hear they are giving a spot on the team to Austin Reeves Grandma
Y’all so down bad, must suck to be y’all, imagine hating on the team you call yourself a fan of. Bronny was picked to make Bron happy, that was the goal & they did their job. He needs consistent minutes, I don’t see Dalton or Theiro doing anything out there but yet y’all got some to say against Bronny, no young guy can do anything when they barely get any minutes & when they do it’s inconsistent.
Well Prince of the basement, Bronny doesn’t get minutes because HE SUCKS. He’s a garbage player who could barely survive as a bench player in the G-League. The fact that the Lakers let LeBron make that pick shows how awful that organization is run. They were gifted Luka before he even hits his prime and they’ve done nothing. Who have the Lakers beat that is a good team this year? They beat Minesota twice, beat San Antonio and beat the Clippers who have started turning it around. They were blown out by Detroit, Houston, Phoenix, Clippers, San Antonio, Boston, Phoenix again, Atlanta, and Oklahoma. Only reason they’re 7th in the league is because of their schedule. It’ll be awesome watching the Lakers fail yet again this year because of fans like you and DarkJoke. Horrible fans and a horrible team with a player GM great to watch from the outside
Vs teams with a record above .500 Lakers are 7-8.. my point exactly.
People always wanna #2 on Bronny but I don’t ever recall him getting consistent minutes in the NBA to develop rotfl. All the time in the G League isn’t all the time vs Elite competition in the NBA, Tyler Kolek has performed vs several good teams in the NBA, even helped the Knicks win the Cup, it wouldn’t had happened If injury didn’t happen but still he showed up, the injuries led to him playing consistent minutes, Bronny doesn’t get consistent minutes but yet people act like he’s a starter averaging 25+ minutes or some lol, people are so funny & down bad
