After reporting last week that Portland was intrigued by the possibility of facilitating a multi-team trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo if the team could upgrade its roster in the process, Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line (Substack link) now hear the Trail Blazers have also expressed interest in acquiring the two-time MVP themselves.
According to Fischer and Stein, Portland’s front office recognizes Giannis is unlikely to sign a long-term extension with the Blazers, calling it an “extreme long shot.” The Stein Line duo reiterate that being involved as a facilitator in a multi-team deal where Portland acquires a different player (or players) is a “far more likely scenario.”
Rival teams think acquiring Blazers guard Jrue Holiday would help improve their odds of acquiring his former Bucks teammate Antetokounmpo, Fischer and Stein add. They continue to list Knicks wing Mikal Bridges as a player the Blazers like.
However, Fischer and Stein also point out that the Blazers have Holiday and Damian Lillard (another ex-Buck) on their roster, and both players are still close to the Greek star.
Portland controls Milwaukee’s first-round picks from 2028-2030 (one pick and two swaps) due to the 2023 trade that sent Lillard to Milwaukee and Holiday to Portland. Holiday was flipped to Boston at the time, helping the Celtics win the title in 2024, before being traded back to the Blazers this past summer.
The Blazers also control most of their own first-rounders and have promising young players like second-year center Donovan Clingan. In terms of assets, the Blazers could theoretically put together an appealing package for Antetokounmpo in the next five days, though they could also offer far more in the offseason. At that point, they’d have further clarity on their lottery-protected 2026 pick, the poison pill provision would no longer apply to Shaedon Sharpe, and Toumani Camara would be trade-eligible.

Yeah, Sure
In todays daily Giannis news, he is interested in (insert team). Shocking news.
Not sure if you read any of the words above the comment button but this says nothing about Giannis wanting to go to Portland.
If he thinks he can win a championship with that team, he wants to go there. That’s the only thing he’s got on his mind, for destinations, at 31, with a style of play that doesn’t lend itself to longevity
No shot.
Seems like chum and click bait. Let’s see if we (Milwaukee) can create an artificial feeding frenzy.
Why would Milwaukee do that?
Calling it now. Giannis is becoming Mormon and going to Utah 😂
Bucks hold onto him until end of the season where they can get a better offer.
Absolutely not. Five thumbs down.
I’ve seen your hand. Wasn’t it 6 fingers? ;)
That was Hemmingway‘s cat collection. They all had six toes.
We’ve already seen that Giannis and Dame didn’t work. And I can’t see it working very well next to Downhill Deni either. Are the Blazerssending Deni out in this trade?
Ya I mean how could he play with a guy averaging a half an assist more than SGA a game and 13th overall in the league. 🙄
The only way I see the Knicks acquiring Giannis is Kat going to the Bucks, Bridges to the Blazers, with Gianni’s and Holiday coming to the Knicks. Brunson, Holiday, OG, Giannis, and Robinson. The defense would be insane, but injury risk would skyrocket.
I promise you Donovan Clingan is a worthless baby brained giant
He always got the better of Edey. So what is Edey then?
There just posting anything now. Come on y’all. I like this site but don’t post click bait.
Hilarious that you think this is the click bait that gets posted on here and not the random “Steve Kerr/Lebron James said” that push otherwise weak stories to audiences that need to talk about the Warriors or he who shan’t be named.
O you wrote this garbage. You gotta be the biggest tool on this site bro. You just like talking trash. We all know Giannis is not going to Portland so why even post the article like this just dilute the site
Or maybe it’s… hold your breath here… basketball news? Or should the rumors sight wait until a transaction is completed to say anything about it?
This story says nothing about Giannis wanting to go to Portland. Even acknowledges how much of a long shot it would be. If anything this piece is contextualizing all the Portland being involved rumors by focusing on the Milwaukee picks that Portland owns.
Please talk more nonsense into your phone. Im always hungry for BBQ chicken.
You sound crazy and multiple people have said it. Why would we need an article about him going to Portland when everyone knows he will not be going to Portland. That’s like me writing an article if George Washington will fight in the civil war. Dumb makes no sense and click bait. But you love appearing Smarter than you are.
Buying buckets, I think actually that Portland wants in on the discussion to see if they can make it happen.
But as you say, is it probable? Probably not. But in the slight chance it does happen, We have the heads up a few days beforehand because they’re making the phone calls regarding Giannis.
With that in mind, I think this is a legitimate article and as Washington Bonercats says, it’s just as legitimate, maybe more so, than some of those other articles we see here.
@Garyredsoxxwarriors
I always respect your takes. But I can’t agree with you. Portland has zero percent chance of getting Giannis. His main point is to win. Blazers with trading for him would have a worse team than what they have. It’s a click bait. All they can offer is Sharp and picks. Then who would he be playing with? I have my issue with Giannis but it would make no sense when you go to Portland
I think everyone would agree on that, but I think it’s worth noting that they’re making calls to the Bucks about acquiring him, or at the minimum being part of a mega deal in some way.
If I was a blazers fan, I wouldn’t want to be shocked next Thursday when they’re part of the Giannis deal and I didn’t hear a word of it beforehand.
They may not get the prize, but perhaps be part of an 8 team massive trade?
An article like this helps us not be blindsided. All good bro, and always appreciate the kind words.
I see your point. I just rather us see it in mystery but I see your point correct and what you said
“I just rather us see it in mystery”
You opened, read, and commented on the piece. What are you talking about man.
Remember when Milwaukee had a zero percent chance of landing Dame??? I do. Remind me what happened again?
How exactly would Portland have a worse team with Giannis if all they had to send out was Shaedon and picks???
Nobody except for Miami actually wanted Dame. It’s contract was crazy and that was never seen as a great trade. Maybe for people who don’t understand basketball or watch basketball. Dame was at the end of his career already before he got hurt. He was all offense, no defense so the pairing didn’t seem well anyway. Also Milwaukee had Giannis so that was a different situation. If you have a star you can gain another star. Not a teen with no star trying to gain a player in their thirties who’s leaving a team to try to win. Completely different situations.
Well that was a lot of words to say nothing. You said there was zero percent chance that Portland could land Giannis. Just like there was zero percent chance that Milwaukee was gonna land Dame. It was on no one’s radar until it happened. The situations were only different in the fact that Dame came out and said he wanted the trade and where he wanted to go. You don’t think Giannis learned a lesson with how that played out for Dame that summer?
How exactly was Dame at the end of his career at age 34 when he got hurt?? The tell tale sign that someone has no solid footing in their argument is when they start throwing around statements like “maybe for people who don’t understand basketball or watch basketball”.
So you are trying to say that Portland has no stars on their team??? How cute. I guess Advija getting the 5 most fan votes in the western conference ahead of Lebron, KD, Edwards, and Wemby proves that your point.
Not saying that Portland is highly likely to land Giannis, but their chance is far from zero.
You never did answer the question about how Portland would be a worse team with Giannis if all they had to send out was picks, Sharpe and salary filler.
POR should be claiming this regardless of whether they really think he’ll resign there. They need to be at the table.
I’m not sure what the price would be just to send MIL their one FRP, and two swaps, back, but at least I would value them more than all 4 FRPs from any of the teams that have been mentioned as potential Giannis destinations. When HOU sent some BKN picks back to them, HOU got essentially 2 for 1, and there was no immediacy in those trade discussions (they were separate from, and happened after, the KD deal).
Can Advija win you a championship? Will he bring in other players to play? What’s Portland record? 23-26
So what argument are you making because I’ve been to three Portland games this year and Portland is under .500 so What star are you talking about? Just cuz you get All-Star votes doesn’t mean you’re a star or an all NBA player. Portland playing descent they’re stuck in perjury. And we’re Advija is a good player He’s not going to be your best player or your second best player on a championship team. The blazers would have to give up pretty much a billion picks which means they would have Giannis and Advija and they play in the West. So they would be able to get better and capped out. Not to mention I just mentioned sharp. They’re going to have to give up more players to actually equal the salaries to make the trade.
The second point you made about Dame is 100% true. If you’ve actually watched the blazers 2 or 3 years before they traded him. Dane can’t even stay on the court. He’s a little guard. He uses himself to create points. And yes, he was no longer a superstar and especially at $54 million. He’s significant of your cap and incapable of leading a team. Had injuries problems and defensive problems before his injury. So you’re trying to make it seem like I don’t watch, but it sounds like you live in Portland and advocating for something that has a zero chance of happening. The reason why as I said above Milwaukee was able to get Dame is because they had a superstar in all NBA player so that can attract another player to your team Portland has zero chance of getting Giannis because they don’t have another Superstar player. They have no other all NBA player and none of their young players that they have now are going to become Superstars So trading all your assets for a player that’s 30 It has injury problems who hasn’t led the team. He’s on to the playoffs and now you’re going to go to the Western conference trade away. You’re one or two good pieces because it won’t just be sharp. It’d be sharp, a bunch of pics and a few role players to match the salaries and you think your team is going to somehow be competing for a championship. Delusional and you thought you cooked. If you actually knew anything about basketball I wouldn’t have had to spell all that out but seeing how you wanted to challenge me I will speak on all of it.
No trade here till end if year. I doubt Giannis would want to go to Portland.
Giannis has no say in where he ends up.
…
You don’t know how this works…
Yeah ok ….. 😜
Al,
This guy Washington bonercats guy is a PhD level troll.
He wasn’t replying to me just as I was not replying to him. Please understand the layout of the website.
Nah we cool lol. He’s a Kings fan ….
You all are not thinking outside the box enough, Giannis to somewhere and Dame AND Jrue back to MKE. lol
