Warriors forward Jimmy Butler underwent successful right knee surgery in Los Angeles on Monday, the team announced in a press release (Twitter link).
The 36-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee in a January 19 game against Miami. The surgery was a reconstruction of the ACL.
Butler, who will miss the remainder of 2025/26, is expected to make a full recovery, per the Warriors. The next update on his status will come “early next season.”
Butler suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly on his right knee after being bumped in the air while catching a pass from Brandin Podziemski (Twitter video link via NBC Sports Bay Area). Butler was fouled on the play by Davion Mitchell, who attempted to disrupt the pass.
A five-time All-NBA member, Butler led the Heat to the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023 and a trip to the Eastern Conference finals in 2022. In 38 games (31.1 minutes per contest) with the Warriors this season, he averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals on .519/.376/.864 shooting.
Butler is on a maximum-salary contract which runs through next season. He will earn $56.8MM in ’26/27.

this is a weak ass yr for nba
g league tm could be good enough to win it all
next yr, with healthy hali, tatum, butler, lillard, kyrie, its gonna be alot more competitive and interesting
Why did you have to connect the likely end of GSW’s title hopes with “a pass from Brandin Podziemski” lol its not like Podz gets enough hate online hahaha
“‘ a pass from Brandin Podziemski’ lol its not like Podz gets enough hate online hahaha”…Something tells Podz has a real life outside of the online world. Maybe Davey should explore that world. He actually might become human.
I wish nothing but the best for Butler. I loved him on the Sixers.
Oh what could’ve been in Chicago. F Reinsdorf and GarPax
Get well Jimmy B …..🙏
Well, it looks like Jimmy could be a nice “trade deadline acquisition” so to speak. Won’t cost anything and they can add him as a guy with potential to provide quite a bit to the team without costing a draft pick or another player in trade.
I’m not sure what the roster will look like coming out of camp next fall, but if the unicorn works well with Greymond and Curry, both offensively and defensively, perhaps they bring Porzingis back and give it one last run before all these big contracts expire ?
maybe teh warriors should try and tank the rest of teh season and get a better draft pick. They obviously need a scorer and a PG that is a high assist man.
I hate tanking. The record shows that there’s plenty of number three picks or four pics who have been busts and plenty of #9 pics or #12 pics that have been multiple time all stars.
Tanking sucks and Moses Moody sucks.
Just draft right, do your homework, hire skilled scouts who know what they’re doing.
Never tank, try to win every game, that’s my philosophy. Good thing I’m not in charge lol
the team needs to fill holes for next season so this is a very important draft pick to get younger and more athletic.
Tankathon.com has the Warriors getting Brayden Burries at #16. He checks off all the boxes. Of course, actual draft results differ. But, he is someone to think about
Please do not trade the draftpick and let MDJ pick a future star.
With ‘zingis’s injury history, they might be able to get him on a much lower make good deal. It might help them in free agency.
I guess I’m naive. Someone explain to me the reason it took so long for this surgery to happen? It really couldn’t be that it was too swollen until now, could it?
That’s all I can think of. Just wait for the swelling to go down because there’s no rush to get it done a week prior or even two weeks prior.
Surgery done now he comes back in 12 months. It’ll still be in February sometime.
Swelling for sure.
