The Mavericks denied Lakers coach JJ Redick‘s claim that they botched Austin Reaves‘ MRI, Christian Clark of The Athletic reports.
Reaves underwent an MRI on his left oblique/rib area on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s game in Dallas after suffering the injury against Oklahoma City on Thursday. Redick told the media that Reaves had to get two MRIs done because the first one didn’t focus on the correct portion of his body.
“I don’t know where the chain of command lies with Dallas imaging, but they scanned the wrong area,” Redick said. “Not on our end. We made it explicit what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area.”
The Mavericks issued an official statement that they didn’t make a mistake administering an MRI on Reaves.
“Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on the information provided at the time,” the statement read. “There was no error in the scan performed.”
Reaves was eventually diagnosed with a Grade 2 oblique strain, which is expected to sideline him for four-to-six weeks.

^It’s perhaps the least surprising thing ever that this guy stans for the modern Enes Kanter.
“Best big man in the draft”
No credible front office is taking Raynaud over Collin Murray-Boyles, Derik Queen, or Ryan Kalkbrennar.
Oh my goodness did Max have 20 points in a loss again? I think any guy that gets drafted, first round or second round, is capable of putting up points on a team of scrubs. Any kid on an NBA roster. Heck even Moses Moody has a 30 point game on his resume.
But to think that a guy with massive holes in his game can be a contributor on a playoff team is a huge mistake. Drafting with those thoughts in mind is like when the team owner contributes to the conversation in the war room on draft day lol !!
Second thought is, what does that have anything to do with Austin Reaves and an MRI? Am I that desperate to be heard?
I get hanging on a thread and needing recognition for making a nice call on a fringe player, but if I was right more often, you could see my steady track record, instead of me begging for a pat on the back.
OK, here it is. The few of you who thought Max could make an NBA roster instead of going to Europe, bravo.
Great call !! Most didn’t see it that way.
But anyone going as far as saying he could start on a playoff team? That’s not going to happen and that’s why we have the second round in the draft…, to take risks on fringe guys with holes in their game.
Okay so he suffered the injury on Thursday? And they waited until Saturday to do something about it before a game on Sunday? And they relied on the Mavericks medical staff rather than their own or a completely neutral medical staff. Like anyone correct me if I’m wrong but there has to be more efficient ways to go about this.
Teams will generally go with the opposing team’s doctors if an injury happens on the road, as their own doctors aren’t traveling with the team.
“a completely neutral medical staff.”
…You do understand what malpractice is, right?
I’m not sure why a medical staff having no affiliation to any particular franchise would automatically lead you to malpractice if they are just performing their duties, right?
Malpractice, or professional negligence, occurs when a professional (typically medical or legal) deviates from accepted standards, causing injury or loss.
Key elements include duty, breach, causation, and damages.
Common types include misdiagnosis, medication errors, and surgical errors.
Proving malpractice requires expert testimony and filing within a statute of limitations

That is essentially what the Lakers are accusing DAL doctors of. That they made an error while performing their duties, I.E. during the MRI (which, by the way, they were surely paid for).
The DAL doctors are denying this claim because it hurts their reputation.
You’re out of your element dude. Please explain what surgical or medication error or misdiagnosis that would remotely put the Dallas doctor’s culpable of malpractice??? Is there anything on record that shows what information was provided in regards to what needed to be imaged? It’d be like any team asking for imaging on a players hand when the concern is that the player has a wrist fracture and then complaining that they didn’t scan the wrong part.
I’m less inclined to believe Reddick who is trying to take the heat off himself as to why he let two of his best players continue to play in a game that was a blowout when they were clearly not 100% and only risked a season ending injury by playing them.
Ah yes, Austin Reaves got a 2nd MRI done in order to take the heat off his coach. Smooth brain take.
All doctors take the same oath no matter who they work for.
Also, the NBA does revenue sharing, so small market and failing teams will still want other teams to keep their good players on the court to make them all money.
Your take is foolish at best.
“Who does number 2 work for!?”
JJ Redick – you can take the podcaster out of the podcast, but you can’t take the podcast out of the podcaster.
Wtf does this even mean
Given the owners is Dallas… It seems likely they’d try this
Everyone wants to face the Lakers in R1
Is Redick trying to claim that this somehow absolves him of continuing to play Reaves in the OKC game after he got hurt?
Considering that the didn’t play vs the Mavs, why is he putting this out?
