With another season in the books, a summer of uncertainty is on tap for the Warriors, who have a series of questions to answer in the coming weeks and months, including what the future holds for longtime head coach Steve Kerr.
Kerr is not under contract for next season. He signed a two-year extension in 2024, but now faces a team with a much murkier outlook. He recently said that he was unsure of his plans moving forward.
According to Nick Friedell and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, the odds are good that Kerr comes to an agreement with ownership to stick around, though Draymond Green recently expressed his doubts on the matter, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
“I hope he’s our coach next season,” Green said. “You want my opinion? I think not. Just because it feels like that. It felt like that was it.”
Kerr is expected to take the next week or two to make his decision, per Slater. According to Friedell (via Twitter), the sentiment from Golden State’s exit interviews was that the players hope Kerr will be on the sidelines next season.
Slater adds that the team is not interested in a “last dance” with this team and coach, but is looking to come back with a refreshed roster and wants a coach with the energy to match (Twitter video link).
We have more Warriors news:
- Green’s name appeared in trade rumors this season. That is unusual for his tenure in Golden State, but it could also be indicative of questions the Warriors are grappling with. Green has a $27MM player option for next season, and Friedell and Thompson write that the team is waiting to see what the former Defensive Player of the Year decides to do before they entertain the idea of trading him. It has been speculated that he is unlikely to test free agency, but the Warriors are light on tradable contracts, so if they want to change the roster, dealing Green would likely be the easiest way to do so. “I’ve never been so uncertain since earlier in my career in what happens next,” Green said, per Slater. “But I’m truly at a loss now because you don’t know what direction will be next. … I also hope I’m on this team next season. We also don’t know that. Man, if it was, what a run.” Discussing how long he hopes to keep playing on a recent podcast, Green said, “I feel great, and I just want to go until I’m done. I think for me, that’s probably another three years,” per Florito Maniego of NBC Sports Bay Area.
- Brandin Podziemski is hopeful that he’ll be able to get a rookie scale extension completed with the Warriors this summer, according to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports. “I want to be here for the long term,” the 23-year-old guard said. “It’s always special having been the team that drafted you.” Friedell and Thompson indicate that there is a desire from the Warriors’ side to lock up Podziemski, despite a sometimes rocky relationship between the young player and the fanbase.
- After a somewhat disappointing season, Al Horford is going to take some time before deciding if he wants to pick up his player option to stay with the Warriors next season, Friedell reports (via Twitter), adding that the 39-year-old expects to play for at least one more year but isn’t certain that will happen. Horford averaged 8.3 points and 4.9 rebounds this season, both career lows.

1. Kerr needs to change part of his coaching style in letting young players make mistakes and stop playing old vets. He should have no voice on any trades for a vet.
2. If you were betting Green comes back on a 2 year $40 million deal helping the club take on a free agent in saved money
3. Podz better not be thinking he deserves all star money i wouldn’t give him more than $15 million a year.
4. Al might go back to Celtics is my guess. I have to think somebody is going to offer him a better deal on a 1 year deal.
Kerr really doesn’t have say in trades. He leaves up to Dunleavy. The attempt to acquire George was all Dunleavy. Butler was all Dunleavy. Hell, Kerr didn’t know they signed Santos to an extension until after it happened.

> Kerr needs to change part of his coaching style
60+ year olds don’t change their coaching style :–) That’s not on the table.
Here’s my VERY EARLY take on what moves I would do:
Extend then trade Podz, and the same for Kristaps. Bring in anyone with size who can complement Steph, all high-IQ guys
Trade Draymond or redo his contract so he makes $10M a year, so theres money for Lebron to come too so he can play with his bestie
Bring in a young coach who knows how to put winning first, Curry next, and everyone else after those two things
Try to acquire Giannis and Trey Murphy III by any means necessary
Draft whoever the best player is and then trade them in the above deals
Go back to sleep lol. Dream isn’t finished yet.
It said -I- would do it. Absolutely nothing I said has a 0% chance of happening. Until that is true, we must address them!
Except this is the wrong sport you can redo a contract on a current deal. Not sure who told you this was possible or where you saw this but here’s some food for thought…I literally googled this and answer is below:
“NBA teams cannot restructure or reduce existing contracts to create cap space, as contracts are fully guaranteed”
In other words, the only way Draymond $27M is coming off is if you trade him out. I like the rest of your post though adding Giannis and Murphy but Giannis will be a Knick and I don’t see Pelicans trading Murphy or Jones. You have better luck getting Zion or Murray than those two.
Green could opt out and take less but he ain’t taking $10 million.
Union wouldn’t allow that lol. He can opt out take less and more yrs.
Now you day dreaming lol. Davey handle the draft first. You are ill have plenty time for trades. Trust me. Don’t give up on Jimmy.
We need to win now, Jimmy can’t win til March. He is great, but I’d rather have Trey Murphy III moving forward.
Nobody is giving you value fir Jimmy. You have to give up picks and bad deals. Porter could get done for picks.
Cap space is important Al. Jimmy leaves that big money window open.
I don’t see Kerr leaving. Biggest decisions are the draft, FA, and cap.
If Draymond says it doesn’t look like its happening, I would believe him.
I, for one, cannot WAIT to see how another coach maximizes Steph. Luke Walton had this team like 80-2. Kerr of course, got the least from the most. Luke Walton is a better coach of the Curry Warriors than Kerr.
It is funny. In the chat with Luke today, someone brought up Kuminga and the belief that they might decline his option. They said GS poorly developed Kuminga as shown in his poor passing skills. I had to laugh. What a dummy. What do you think was the problem between Kerr and Kuminga. He always wanted to be the main scorer. He would not pass to guys who had better shots. Why do they kept benching him?
Because of all that, Green should benefit from not having to play the 5 anymore. Green is very good at knowing where his teammates have to be. And they needed that with Kuminga as shown by the stats. Green kept getting beat up playing the 5. He won’t be like he was 5 seasons ago. But, the season won’t beat him up.
A healthy seasons of Green and Horford at the 4 could be a bonus for the Warriors. If possible to keep them, they can have Bassey, KP, and Post at the 5. They’ll have money next off season to look a replacement.
They need to find a replacement for Butler. They 25-19 before his injury. They went 12-26 the rest of the way. A big hole to fill. The draft would be a nice place to do it. He could become a mentor.
A center that can play defense.
Moody was the guy to get Jimmy’s minutes, but then his kneecap detached. Moody is also more of a wing than Butler.
IDK, they just need to tread water and stay healthy until Butler comes back.
Honestly, without a big move I can’t see this roster, even when healthy, getting to the WCF. The West is too deep.
Yeah, I don’t think they will be a WCF team next season. Any center they draft will be a couple of seasons away from contributing.
But, I think there are things they can do in this draft to help themselves. OKC has two picks and has to move some salary. The Warriors might be able to work out something there. There is also a likely draft-and-stash center where their 2nd round pick is. Mouhamed Faye might be a worth a look at.
Yeah says the guy who disrespected Raynaud all year. True visionary lmao.
Oh poor Al. Do you need a blankie to mop up your tears. Sheesh. I have never heard of someone be so upset about a player they like having success. I don’t understand it. It was an easier path for him with the Kings than with the Warriors.
This clown pines for a center. After dissing one all yr. And this is about me. Get some knowledge littlefella. You might actually make a point.
Raynaud’s defense is a known weakness. You are the only one who says it isn’t.
Yet you talk about getting a center. Like he will play great D. There are no centers available clown. Not for Warriors in draft. And it takes time to adjust to NBA physicality. Look at Post TWO yrs abd still sucks on D.
Raynaud is all ready a top rebounder. Thats part of defense. His interior D is solid. Where he needs wirk is in perimeter. Like ALL centers need. It’s where they are most vulnerable. You wouldn’t understand. If you actually watched and had any knowledge. You can see he is smart enough to get that. As a rookie he is still learning. That’s the key. He truly is learning. He gets stronger he will be better than fine on D and offense. His future is a starting center in NBA. Do you have any idea what that means.
All you clowns can nit-pick all you want. You still can’t accept the fact that you passed on talent. So keep posting all your non-knowledge. So I can run uit back to show your ignorance.
You know his D potential like you know he wasn’t the pick at 42 —- YDKB littlefella 🤫
“Following the All-Star break, Sacramento Kings rookie center Maxime Raynaud has been a standout performer, averaging roughly 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 16 games. He has shot over 60% from the field and 86%+ from the free-throw line, emerging as a top rookie performer in March.”
Even if the NONSENSE you two talk. Witoever watching him. How could you possibly think he won’t improve on defense. This guy who puts up these stats. Is worth coaching on D. Yet you are still caught up in your nonsense. How can you talk about needing a center. Then with the next breath trasn one you will never get. Don’t you see your hypocrisy.
Learn the game please …,
Al please stop beating the horse. Raynaud is a 1 deminsional center who is offense only with no defense at all. He is on the perfect team for him a team rebuilding.
You keep believing that. What do any of you know about him. I doubt you ever read or watcged scouting reports. His D is fine and will get better. Like his offense has. What do Warriors fans know about big man D. Thats hilarious.
Passed on a starting center. And you still bash a rookie. You don’t even watch. His D is not weak. It will only get better. If you knew who he is as a player. You would believe that.
Yet all you clowns still talk about needing a center. When you have been telling me tor YEARS you don’t need one. Yeah preach
eye roll stop pretending he is good defensive player. Next you will tell me Towns is a great defensive player.
Lendeborg is a major pick for Warriors. Only he might be gone. He is an IQ big. Fits that offense. And plays D. Great rebounder. Green can mentor him lol. I also like Steinbach as a 4. You might be able to trade down for Steinbach. Pickup another player.
There are a lot of things they can do. Why get caught up in one outcome?
Gee I don’t know. Why are you here. Thats one outcome we dont want.
Information on Players transactions and movement that you can’t get anywhere else.
If Lendeborg is there, they should take him. I think he might be closest to “a contributor” for next season to be found in the draft.
He fits Warriors like a glove. Could be ROY.
I just think Kerr would want a playmaking guard with size. If he is there.
Kuminga sure had a nice game tonight.
Kuminga had great games with the Warriors. He would also have bad games with the Warriors. The pattern continues.
Kuminga still can’t shoot that three. Hawks are not gonna win this series of they don’t start moving the ball. CJ playing hero ball is fun to watch but it ain’t gonna win a series. The offense needs to go through Jalen Johnson.
But you can see how much better he fits Hawks. His athleticism is off the charts. And he is playing both ways. He still needs coaching. I agree his shot has to get better. He shot 35% 3 pt in Atlanta. Only 70% FT. His mechanics are good. Imo I think Hawks will trade him. Risacher has to get mi s. Unless they move Risacher for a big. A center
You’ve said it before, but W’s need players that know enough hoops to be able to play in their system. Kuminga looked lost in SF because he was lost in their system. Hawks almost don’t have an offensive system. It’s just cut, go baseline and clear out for the shooter. Easy enough for Kuminga to fit in.
You develop a players game. Not his fit to your system. Cause you want the best of the player. Either to fit in or to trade. Like you said not all players will play your style. You don’t kill the player for it a 19-22 yr old. Did the same with Wiseman thats coaching lol. Could have traded him
Long ago.
Just wait and see if he can back it up a few more times. Warriors fans seen that movie many times he looks like an all star then the next game disappears. Brown will adjust against the hawks. take Towns out and put in a rim protector.
Yes he gas to do it consistently for a year first. But its clear the difference in teams. He was never going to develop in GS. That’s been my argument for three yrs.
Podz is so, so “not it”. Inconsistent. Ego problems. Low BBIQ. Zero awareness. Zero instincts. Not clutch. No size. We have not seen him be a dawg when it mattered. Plays SG but has one 30 point game in 3 years (Moody, Richard and Santos all got theirs before Podz. Even his first 30 point game was a loss vs a 20 win team. For contrast, Moody had his first 30 piece at age 19 – and that’s when you all should have gone all-in on him btw). Looks off an open Steph way, way too much. I hope they extend him then trade him.
This is the thing that frustrates me about some warriors fans when I see these trade ideas. None of the trade that are thrown out there or players that are mentioned make realistic sense for them to acquire.
I repeatedly see Giannis mentioned. What do the warriors have that is going to get a deal done for Giannis? Jimmy Butler coming off an ACL and a couple first round picks. Like come on that deal makes zero sense for the bucks. If the bucks are trading Giannis unless he specifically says I will only sign an extension with golden state and maybe not even then would the bucks make that deal. Not every team is run by Nico Harrison. If the bucks made Giannis available they would have half a dozen offers that are way better than that.
I see Trey Murphy thrown out there. This one makes even less sense. He’s under contract until 2029 so the pelicans have no pressure to move him and just like with Giannis the pelicans would have half a dozen much better offers if they made him available.
Someone actually explain in the detail how these get done and what the incentive from BOTH teams is.
“Not every team is run by Nico Harrison.” – are you new here? Almost all teams are run by guys exactly like Nico Harrison.
The upcoming draft and next years draft are especially overflowing with superstar, game-changing guys. If the Warriors want to give up their picks, like they have previously stated, and the Spurs and Thunder say they do not plan on acquiring Giannis, then that leaves the Warriors as the only team with the draft capital (1000x more important) and players (less important). Jimmy and 4FRP for Giannis gets done as of today. The Bucks owner wants to lose and rebuild, they would be also trading everyone not nailed down. Every team is in a different position, so it takes some stars to align for these trades to happen.
But no team is clearing that GSW package, even if you hate Jimmy, and if they can, then sure, they deserve it. But no one who can, like the Spurs or Thunder, is coming close to that offer, it’s very odd you can’t see this.
Overflowing with superstar talent at the bottom of the draft? Because I would assume you are making this deal because you think the warriors are contending right? So picks in the late 20s for the next few years are somehow enticing to the bucks? You think the warriors haven’t made that exact offer already? If that’s what it took to get Giannis it would have gotten done at the trade deadline. Teams like the thunder and spurs may not have been interested during the season but things can definitely change depending on how the playoffs go. We watched Houston do exactly that for KD last year when the playoffs blew up in their face. Speaking of Houston they have extra capital and young players that would be far more enticing for the bucks. The bucks don’t control their draft picks through swaps and trades so tanking only benefits other teams. If they trade Giannis it’s going to take at least 1 young player if not a couple.
Ugh, all I think is KD to GSW was done on paper and he nixed it. Jimmy was supposed to go to Phoenix. GSW 100% chipping with KD, being KD just had an elite season. So close, and so far.
ESPN said that the Warriors trading 4 1sts for Giannis would be a great trade. The Bucks would get 4 lottery picks.
No need to go for the bright shiney dangling object of a superstar. They need to go young. It is actually something Steph Curry wants.
Agree 100%
The Warriors have four picks to trade. And lottery at that. Hmmmm
ESPN is just making up a story to get people to tune in. 1. MDJ doesn’t want to trade draft picks and just signed an extension. 2. Giannis would never sign an extension so no team is trading 4 draft picks for 1 year of Giannis.
I was just joking about how bad they said the trade would be for the Warriors.
i do not trust Giannis. The Bucks did everything to make him happy and he turned his back on them. Who says he will be happy on his next team and pull the same thing. Bucks are in no better of a position as teh warriors so you know he would not be happy playing for the warriors.
You guys are worse than Davey lmaof.
Giannis will never go to GS.
Only Davey is saying that Giannis is going to the warriors.
You have a problem with people joking about your best buddies fetish.
@Darkghost-
The Warriors have enough with Butlers expiring and 4 first Rd picks
BUT you ELUDED to it yourself in Giannis is going to go where he wants to go next not just where the Bucks decide the best package lies. I personally don’t think thats GSW in his mind but if he does want GSW he will be a Warrior
Giannis has all the leverage, comparing potential packages around the league is solid brainwork but it doesnt apply here, its not an open market
Exactly Giannis will not sign an extension with warriors so no way you trade 4 draft picks for him.
@Cap&Crunch, good to see you, hoping to get your insights…
Agreed that Giannis’ trade value will be less this summer than it was at the past trade deadline, but do you really believe Butler’s expiring and 4 first round picks gets it done?
I’d expect Milwaukee to want all the young talent GSW has (which is not much). If they don’t like Podz (and probably Moody and/or Santos as well), they’d at least want him as a trade asset.
The challenge is that by giving away so much, GSW also makes itself undesirable to Giannis.
Actually Ari I dont think they will have to overspill anything else than Jimmy for salary besides Richard
Mil has No leverage anymore. They just gotta stand tall
Idk but MDJr but Meyers was a ball buster at the trade table, yall always got a 15% off sticker it seemed
Crunch, thanks for the insight. Getting my popcorn ready…
GSW does fewer deals because of the VC culture — not win-win, but maximizing your piece of a fixed-size pie.. **No deal is worth doing unless you WIN**. It’s a double-edged sword.
Myers was qualified to be GSW’s GM because, although not a true basketball guy, as an ex-agent he understood contract term and negotiation. Dunleavy is more of a basketball guy than Myers, but is on a short leash. Kirk Lacob is EVP of Basketball Ops, and works hand-in-hand with Dunleavy.
